Chapter 88: Practicing Martial Arts, Monk Dwayne (Part 1)

William wanders around the Silent Forest in the middle of the night. To him, there had not been much difference between day and night since he had Dark Vision. His older cousin, Matthew, had taught him how to find the direction of the wind using the stars as a guide. Her plan? To go to the middle of the forest where he would meet the next instructor.

In time, he arrived at the lake in the middle of the forest. The boy took off his tattered clothes and jumped into the water to clean up the dirt that was accumulating on his body.

The Phantom's voice continued to ring in his ears as a deafening silence held him in his arms. After a month of living in the forest, William was already used to the unbearable silence. However, as a Half-Elf, his sense of hearing was sharper compared to the others.

His current condition sometimes made him dizzy and nauseous. While he was being hunted by Trent, William needed a few days to get used to the discomfort. The silence also made him feel unbalanced. It was as if he could not move his body properly.

Considering the ever-increasing weight of the bracelet, William felt that he was always in an unbalanced state.

The boy sighed as he looked at the stars as he floated on the surface of the lake.

'The stars are completely different from the ones I saw on Earth, ' William thought. 'Just keep it, the world is beautiful.'

William looked at the two moons hanging in the sky. The larger of the two, Ainar, has a bluish color. The other, Artem, is light purple. According to Matthew, the great war between the Hestian Gods had taken place when the world was young.

The battle was so intense that many Gods fell, including the Sun God Liane. When the Sun God died, the light of the world disappeared and Hestia was shrouded in eternal darkness.

It was then that the Gods realized their folly. After the armistice, the war was finally over. But, the damage has already happened.

Years passed and the extinction of mankind was near. In an attempt to prevent the extinction of mankind, the twin Goddesses, Ainar, and Artem, sacrifice themselves to end mankind's Dark Era.

Two beautiful moons bathed the world with their gentle light and with it, man gained the strength to resist. A few years later, the new Sun God, Felix, was born. His light penetrated into the darkness of night and illuminated the earth with its radiance.

These three Gods were watching over the human race. One in the day, two in the night. That was how the Dark Era ended, and humanity flourished once again.

William sighed as he recalled the Gods who had given him blessings. Gavin, Issei, Lily, and David.

As if waiting for that signal, he received a notification from the system.

'Special Quest?' William frowned. It took him a few minutes to remember that he had indeed obtained this new function after meeting the Gods and completing the Test of Courage.

William opened the God's Shop and saw many items for sale. It is very similar to an online shopping site where you can order anything and send it directly to your doorstep with the click of a button.

For a moment, the ringing in his ears disappeared followed by a sense of excitement. He spent the night exploring the God Shop in search of items that proved useful for his journey through Hestia's new world.

___

Dwayne arrives in the open and sees William sleeping beside the lake. The boy's saliva spilled from the corners of his lips, which made the monk laugh. He walked towards the unsuspecting boy, and was about to kick him into the lake when William's eyes opened.

The red-haired boy rolled to the side and immediately propped himself up from the ground. He then called out his wooden stick and took a defensive position.

Dwayne nodded his head in appreciation as he stared at the boy who was looking at him warily. “Trent training does not waste you.”

The monk looked at William and measured his current strength. 'His stamina was at the silver rank, and his perception consciousness was at least at the early stages of the Golden Rank. Not bad for a ten year old.'

“Quiet, I'm not here to hurt you,” Dwayne raised both his hands a surrender sign. "At least not yet."

William still did not lower his guard. He knows Wayne. He was one of his Grandfather's trusted people, but he wasn't close to him. The young man's instinct told him that this man was very dangerous.

“Allow me to introduce myself officially. His name is Dwayne,” said Dwayne with a smile. “I'm here to teach you the basics of Martial Arts. I hope we both fit.”

"William," William replied in a hoarse voice. “I'm looking forward to your teaching.”

Dwayne nodded his head. “Now, for our first lesson, put that stick in your hand. You won't need it. What I'm going to teach you is a gunless battle. That means you don't need any weapons. I'll train your body to become a weapon.”

William reluctantly returned the wand to his storage ring, but he did not let down his guard. He became a little paranoid due to the relentless attacks he suffered for an entire month.

__

“Ok, since we have already finished our introduction, you will start calling me Teacher from now on,” said Dwayne.

"But I have a Master."

"Then you can call me Second Master."

“... I already have Second Master,” replied William awkwardly. Oliver, the Parrot Monkey had told him to call him Second Master during their training, and Half-Elf was already used to calling Oliver that way.

Dwayne waved his hand as if it was no big deal. “Then call me Third Master. What I will teach you is the secret art of my Sect. I mean, the secret art of my Former Sect.”

Although Dwayne had been excommunicated from the sect, he had already mastered everything he needed to learn while he was in the Monk Temple.

William frowned, but still nodded his head. Oliver had explained to him that there were times when a student had several teachers. This is unusual in Hestia. Also, Celine knew that William would only be restricted if he prevented her from learning from the Master at Lont.

With the ability to learn any kind of Profession, it was inevitable that William would have several Masters to guide him down the right path.

"William greets the Third Master" William placed his hand on his chest and bowed.

"Good!" Dwayne laughed as he approached the boy. "Don't worry. I'll make sure that you won't regret calling me Your Master. ”

_________

The training of the Dwayne Monk for William began.

Dwayne jokingly told him that he should shave his head according to the custom. However, William firmly rejected this idea. She loves her hair and doesn't want to be bald like Dwayne.

“OK, I want to assess your current level in martial arts combat,” Dwayne stands ten meters away from William. "Come to me and don't hold back."

William roared and attacked Dwayne using his movement technique. He circled the monk and used his speed to his advantage. True to his words, the monk stood still and waited for William to begin his attack.

Seeing that the Monk had no gaps, William decided to take the opportunity and attack his side with a locomotive kick. Surprisingly, Dwayne did not block or dodge his attacks. His attack landed right on the monk's waist.

Dwayne glanced at William and frowned. "Um, is that your strongest attack?"

"Yes" replied William. He looked at the monk to gauge whether he was just enduring the pain in his body or not. Although William was not that strong, his kick was powerful enough to make the goblin slip on the ground several meters away.

“Hah~ this will not work,” Dwayne scratches his bald head. “You're too weak. Your attacks are inefficient and there are so many wasted moves. This is not gonna work. I've got to really teach you the basics. ”

William felt himself a failure after seeing the disappointed face of the monk. What he didn't know was that this was a strategy that Dwayne had made William take seriously.

"Don't worry. By the time I'm done with your training, you won't even recognize yourself, ”Dwayne assured him. “Now, let's get started. First I'll show you how to throw the right punch. I will demonstrate it first. Make sure to watch me closely. ”

William narrowed his eyes and focused all his attention on Dwayne's posture. Seeing the boy observing his movements, the monk unleashed a simple punch.

The monk's punch was slow enough for William to observe. He knew that his new Master had limited himself to teaching him the proper form of punch.

Suddenly a loud explosion resounded from the middle of the lake. The water explodes and William is drenched by the drizzle created.

“Now, it's your turn,” Dwayne grinned. “The first thing we need to train is your flexibility.”

“Flexibility?” William asked in confusion. “No punching?”

William was astonished by the way his new Master taught. After showing him a tremendous punch, the red-haired boy was itching to practice punching like him. What he doesn't know is that this is another scheme Dwayne devised in order for William to invest in Monk Training.

“Why should we practice with punches when you hit like a little girl?” Dwayne looked at her as if she was stupid. “Let's start first with the basics. Flexibility and balance training. We can turn to punching after you master the exercises I'm going to give you. ”
