Chapter 36: The Love of a Father

The Ainsworth family along with their guests gathered for an early dinner. Although the dishes placed on the table were not fancy, everything tasted delicious. As dinner ends, James, Cedric, and Leah go to the living room to relax.

William said goodbye and went for a walk with his Mama Ella. Mordred also left home to check on the survivors of Fushia. He wanted to know if they needed any other needs aside from the current supplies they had provided for them.

Seeing that "Grandfather" James was in a good mood, Leah decided to ask him a question that had been bothering her ever since she arrived at Lont.

“Grandfather, William says that it was he who landed the deadly blow on the Thousand Year Beast. Really true?" ask Lea.

Cedric who was sitting next to her caught her attention. Although he accepted William's reasoning, he wanted to know how the boy had managed to do so.

"Yes" James replied with a smile. “That little boy almost gave me a heart attack. However, if not for him then Lont might as well end up with the ruins.”

James grinned as he recalled William's daring attack on the battlefield. It was something that made a lasting impression on him.

“Uncle, What kind of Millennial Beast is it?” ask Cedric. His father, Sebas, had taught him many things in terms of identifying monsters belonging to the Forbidden Land.

"It was the Thunder-Horned Wolf of Strathmore," James replied. “That creature sucks. One mistake and everything will explode.”

“Strathmore Thunder Horned Wolf..,” muttered Cedric. "Wait on! The Thunder Horned Wolf? That Thunder Horned Wolf? Who can use Storm Annihilation?”

"Yes." Yeah." James nodded. “A unlucky and annoying wolf who only knows how to bring others with him into the afterlife. That savage is the bedbug I told you about. If it wasn't for Will, we would have been seriously injured from that explosion.”

"Grandfather, could be ..." Leah looked at James in disbelief. "When William said that he landed the final blow, you mean that at the time the Thunder-Horned Wolf would unleash a suicide attack?"

"Yes." Yeah." James grinned. “The boy was lucky and managed to hit the wolf in a very fatal place. He was able to undo the Wolf's suicide attack. And give Ella a chance to deliver the Death Blow that ended the Beast's life.”

“Ella?” Lea's eyes were shocked. “Will Mama Ella? He gave the Death Punch to the Thousand Year Beast?”

“Can't be trusted right?” James chuckles. “To be frank, if I wasn't there to watch that scene, I wouldn't believe it either. It was just a miracle.”

The brothers exchanged looks. It never crossed their minds that the narcissistic boy they had known for several years was capable of such a feat.

He would say more when he felt a familiar presence outside the house. James did not feel any hostility coming from that presence. Instead, he felt a sense of familiarity.

"The "guest" persisted for a while before disappearing completely.

"Grandfather? Is something wrong?" Leah looked at the sudden change in James' expression and wondered if their question somehow offended this kind old man.

"No" James replied with a smile. “I'll go to patrol the city for a while. You two can do whatever you want for now. So, make yourself feel at home.”

A man in a traveler's robes was leaning against a tree with his hands crossed in front of his chest. He had a sturdy body and his aura was that of an expert fighter.

"Are you not going to see them?" James asked. “They are very worried about you, you know?”

"Maybe I'll meet my daughter" the man replied. “As for my son, he must stand on his own two feet and see the world as it is. I've spoiled him long enough.”

Sebas, Cedric and Leah's father, stepped out of the forest and faced James with a determined expression.

“What's your plan?” James raised an eyebrow. "Do you want me to help your son rebuild Fushia?"

“Lord Ainsworth, I leave my children in your hands,” Sebas lowered his head. “I plan to visit some of my old friends and see if they are alive and well. As for the rebuilding of Fushia, you can talk to my children about it.

“Sometimes, I wish Leah. He has a good heart and he is also talented in magic. Although Cedric is not a bad candidate. he is too naive.”.

"You indulge him too much" James commented. "The flowers raised in the greenhouse are beautiful, but they will not survive in the wild."

Sebas nodded his head and thought for a moment. “Lord Ainsworth, if possible, please register my son in the academy in the central continent. Perhaps, that environment will be beneficial for its growth.”

James nodded his head after careful consideration. He had the same opinion as Sebas. Even though Cedric was already twenty years old, he still needed to learn the ways of the world. The two men were worried that he would be taken advantage of by the nobles if he remained the same.

"That's manageable, but what about Leah?" James asked.

“Leah is also arguably a young genius,” replied Sebas proudly. “It would be better if he enrolled in the Hellan Kingdom Academy in the capital. I believe that little Matthew is studying there, don't you think, Mr Ainsworth?”

"Indeed. My grandson is currently studying at Royal Academy.”

“Tenace. I'm sure Matthew will look after Leah.”

"Oh? So you know?” The corner of James' lips curved into a grin.

“How could I not know?” Sebas helplessly shook his head. “Every time Matthew was in Lont City, my good daughter would sneak out of the house to meet him. To this day, I still don't know what that little girl saw in your grandson.”

James laughed as he patted Sebas on the shoulder. Clearly, he was also very impressed with how Matthew managed to win the affection of the genius girl from Fushia.

"That's because Matthew inherited my charisma" James said. “I'm sure Leah saw that she had a lot of potential, so she decided to call him. Your daughter has good eyes to choose men.”

Sebas just nodded his head. She already accepts that her daughter is in love with Matthew. The Ainswoths had a good bloodline, so Sebas had no problem with their union.

The only concern is whether their feelings will remain the same as they get older. For her, it didn't matter who Leah married in the end. As long as he was happy, Sebas would give him blessings.
