Chapter 18: Luck From the System

"This is it, Young Master," Helen said as she served tea in front of William.

"Thank you, Aunt Helen" replied William. “I promised Theo that I would give him two pieces of apple pie. Please, give it to him when he comes later to return our sheep. ”

"Okay, Young Master." Helen nodded and left the living room.

William picked up the teacup and took a sip for a while before glancing at their guest.

"Then let's start a business." William smiled. “So, what kind of compensation are you prepared to bribe our family to break this engagement? As I said before, we don't need gold. We are not poor.”

Agatha glanced at Eleanor before taking the initiative to start the discussion.

"Then what do you want?" ask Agatha.

"Treasure, artifacts," replied William. "As long as it has value then I'll take it."

Eleanor took a small box from her storage ring and showed it to William. In this world, rich and influential people were able to purchase magical artifacts capable of storing items in separate dimensions.

According to William's knowledge, the maximum capacity of the best storage ring on the continent was only two square meters. Although it made it easy to carry things, the space was quite limited.

Eleanor opened the box and showed it to William.

“This is called Growth Pills,” explains Eleanor. “This is a very expensive pill that is worth two thousand gold coins. If you agree to break this marriage agreement, I'll give this to you.”

"You want me to break the marriage covenant for a pill that's only worth two thousand gold coins?" William asked in a mocking tone. He then glanced at Rebecca and grinned. “In your Master's eyes, you are only worth two thousand gold coins.”

Rebecca frowned, but said nothing. Seeing her reaction, Eleanor's face sank. Although the young genius had accepted him as his Master, the two of them had yet to begin their apprenticeship.

She planned to take Rebecca to the Misty Sect to start her training, but put it off when she found out that she was engaged to a villager. As an elder of a prestigious sect, he would not allow his disciple to have any attachment to anyone.

Agatha and her husband shared their opinions. This was also why they took advantage of the old Duke's absence. The two wanted to break off the engagement made when Rebecca was just two years old.

"Of course this isn't the only thing I want to give you" Eleanor said with clenched teeth. "This is just one of the things you'll get if you agree to break a marriage agreement between two families."

"May I see that pill?" ask William.

"okay." Eleanor passed through the box so William could take a closer look.

The Misty Sect Elder was sure that the boy did not know of such a treasure. What he didn't know was that William had exceptional judgment skills.

Growth Pills

— When consumed, this pill will permanently increase all stats one by one.

William snorted and unceremoniously gestured for his Mama Ella to approach.

"Mama, this is good stuff." William grinned.

“Meee?”

“Try, Ma.”

William inserts the pill into Ella's mouth which surprises Agatha, Eleanor, and the four guards behind them.

The Angorian goat chewed on the pill and its eyes widened in surprise.

“Is it good?” ask William.

“Meeeeh.”

“Just so ~ so?”

Ella nodded her head in confirmation. Although the pills had improved all of his stats one by one, it felt unsatisfactory to him.

“K-you! What have you done?!" Eleanor could not believe her eyes. 'That boy actually fed the Growth Pill to a goat ?! It is a waste of resources!'

The four guards glared at William. They felt their hearts ache because the Growth Pill was worth five thousand Credits Sect. They had to work for two years to earn enough points to redeem in the Misty Sect.

"What's wrong?" William asked back. “It's just a cheap Growth Pill. Don't worry, since I've already used it, you can subtract it from the list of compensation items you plan to give to me. ”

Eleanor's chest went up and down in anger. The Growth Pill was supposed to be her reward for Rebecca. In order to get the bastard boy to agree to cancel the marriage agreement, he decided to compromise and give it to her.

However, seeing him treat his treasure like it was just a piece of candy made him angry.

Seeing Eleanor's expression, Agatha decided to intervene and take the treasure from her own storage ring.

“This, this is a magic wand,” Agatha explained. "Although you don't have an ounce of magical power, you can sell it to someone else who is more talented than you."

William ignored the ridicule in Agatha's words and took the magic wand from her hand.

William frowned and returned the wand to Agatha, “Sorry, I have no interest in cheap magic wand. Do you have anything better?”

“M-cheap? This staff is worth a thousand gold coins! ” Agatha almost hit the boy's head using a stick in her hand. He could not believe that an ordinary shepherd would dare to call it cheap!

“I'm not interested in low-quality goods.” William shrugged his shoulders. “Oh, they say you're a genius. Are you a witch?”

"Yes" replied Rebecca.

"Do you have a magic wand?"

"I have it"

"Show me that."

Rebecca pondered for a while before reluctantly summoning her magic wand. Unlike the Learning Bronze Staff, the staff in Rebecca's hands had a deep blue color. You can even call it a spear, but instead of a sharp knife, a large purple crystal—-shaped rose— adorns the tip.

William's eyes sparkled because he knew that the wand was much better than the bronze one he had rated before.

“Can I touch it? Don't worry, I won't break it.” William patted his chest. "I just want to take a closer look."

“Alright, but you can only hold it for half a minute,” Rebecca said. "This staff is worth twenty thousand gold coins."

“Twenty thousand gold coins? That expensive?” William held a stick in his hand to judge.

However, before he could even use appraisal skill, a series of texts appeared in front of him.

"Time runs out," Rebecca announced as she snatched the Magic Wand from William's hands. "Half your minutes have passed."

William is still in a daze. She did not hear Rebecca's words because she was busy checking out the new job class she had obtained.

'Oh my God! I got a new job class just by holding a cane?!' William's heart was pounding in his chest. He often wondered how he could get a subclass. Never in his wildest dreams did he think that getting a new job class was this easy!

William's surprised expression made Agatha and Eleanor look at him with a stern face. The two older women thought that the boy was surprised because of how expensive the magic wand was.

'How stupid, ' Agatha thought.

'The villagers, ' said Eleanor.

Mordred who sat beside William frowned. He could see William's hands trembling and wondered if he should intervene to save his nephew.

"W-Do you guys have any other expensive stuff?" William stuttered. “This is the first time I have held something so amazing in my life. If you can show me at least five items of the same quality, I will agree to cancel this matchmaking.”

"Just show you?" ask Agatha. "You're not gonna take it?"

"I won't accept it" William replied as he held back his joy. “I just want to hold it like I did with that stick.”

“If we do this, do you really agree to cancel the marriage agreement?” ask Eleanor. This is the reason for their visit. If he could get the boy to write a letter to cancel the agreement then the old Duke would not be able to find anything wrong.

"Yes.but, the quality should be the same or higher,” replied William. "I won't accept cheap stuff!"

Agatha and Eleanor exchanged looks and nodded at the same time. They took the most expensive items from their storage ring and stacked them in front of William.

The boy looked at all the treasures in front of him and his eyes sparkled with excitement.

The items Eleanor presented were all magic sticks of different elements. Since she was a Witch, all of her treasures belonged to the magic type category.

William's breathing became heavier with every item he held in his hand. Her eyes also turned red which made Eleanor very happy. He thought that the boy finally realized that he was a frog at the bottom of the well.

'A frog who tried to eat a goose?' Eleanor laughed in her head. 'Look at the difference between our social status! It's time to wake up from your reverie, village boy.'

After William finished examining the magical weapon that came from Eleanor, he turned his attention to the weapon that came from the Agatha collection.

William's body trembled. His breathing now became disordered, as if he would faint at any moment from exhaustion.

"William, are you okay?" ask Mordred. He was very worried about his nephew's current condition.

"I-I've never felt better in my life" William replied in a hoarse voice. He took a step back and almost fainted on the sofa. Fortunately Mordred watched him closely and was able to support his body in time.

"Are you satisfied?" ask Agatha. "Will you honor our agreement?"

"Y-Yes" replied William. He was still recovering from the euphoria he had felt before. “I will agree to the cancellation of this marriage agreement.”

"We need you to write the letter, and the letter should have your signature as well" Eleanor said. "It's not that we don't trust you, but it has to be recorded correctly."

"Understood." William nodded and asked for paper and ink.

He later wrote a letter saying that he disagreed with the matchmaking made between his grandfather and Rebecca's grandfather. The reason she gave for the annulment of the marriage agreement was because Rebecca wasn't good enough for her.

He stated that since he was the most handsome boy on the continent, it was only natural that he was paired with a girl who had the beauty to overthrow the country. Also, she was not optimistic about Rebecca's growth in her chest area.

William felt that the girl would only have a B-Cup when she reached adulthood. He even politely added that he could consider making Rebecca his concubine if his main wife agreed to accept him into his harem.

When Agatha and Eleanor read William's letter, the two almost vomited a mouthful of blood out of anger. William has registered a series of complaints as to why Rebecca was unfit to be his fiancee and not the other way around!

Agatha even had the urge to tear the little bastard apart to eat his flesh and drink his blood. He had never felt so angry in his life and it almost drove him crazy.

"Because I have written the letter, you must all go" William drove the pest away. “Don't tell me you plan to stay for dinner with us? Well, I guess we can give you some porridge because the Ainsworth family has a big heart. I don't want any rumors circulating that we don't treat our guests well.”

Agatha dragged her daughter to the front door because she was afraid, if she stayed any longer, she would cut the little bastard into pieces.

Eleanor also left without saying anything, as she had never experienced this kind of humiliation in her life. He was an elder of the Misty Sect and was treated with respect wherever he went.

He cursed William in his heart and even decided to take revenge in the future. Rebecca did not see the contents of the letter and obediently followed her mother back to the carriage. He thought that William was an attractive boy, but not worthy enough to be his fiancee.

If Rebecca knew what the "interesting boy" wrote in her letter, she would probably call her staff and use it to beat him up until he shed a tear of blood.
