Chapter 24: William's Explanation, and the Fight Together

Dire's wolf growled, not out of challenge, but out of fear. Jekyll glanced at this delicious treat with a smile. When seen up close by the only dentist in Lont, a piece of wolf meat can be seen stuck between several teeth.

However, before he or Dire Wolf had time to make a move, someone fell from the sky. Its landing created a dust storm that made everyone retreat. As the dust subsided, a man with gray hair stood in the middle of the four-square-meter crater.

James looked around as if looking for someone. Immediately, his gaze landed on a boy standing on top of a tree branch, hugging a tree trunk.

His gaze softened slightly as he turned his attention to the few Dire Wolves left on the battlefield.

"Helen, clean up this garbage" James ordered.

"Go ahead, sir," Helen replied with a smile.

The sound of dying howls echoed in the forest as the remaining Dire Wolves breathed their last.

Seeing that the situation was under control, William came down from the tree and ran towards his Mama Ella. The Angorian goat licked William's cheek as if telling him he was fine.

Even so, William used First Aid on her to help her recover her injuries. After that, he also gave First Aid to the remaining goats in his flock. These were the survivors of the Wolf Tide and he did not intend for them to die after coming this far.

Mr. Bond, the town barber, has found Theo and the other apprentice shepherds. He took it upon himself to escort the children back to Lont, while the others went to help their comrades in battle.

William was so focused on his duty of healing goats that he did not realize that his grandfather had arrived beside him. The others had already gone to support the senior Shepherd on the other side of the forest.

The battle is not over yet. There were still several thousand Dire Wolves who were still under the command of two Centennial Beasts.

Also, there was still a threat from the Thousand-Men Beast that was equivalent to a one-man army.

"Go back to the house" William commanded the thirteen goats.

“Meeeeh!”

“Meeeeh!”

“Meeeeh!”

The goats clawed their nails in protest. They felt that William had no intention of returning with them. Since that was the case, they decided not to return as well.

“Don't be stubborn!” William glared at the agitated goats. “Ella, make them understand.”

“Meeeeh!” Emma bleated and the goats stood attentively.

“Meeeeeeee!”

“Meeeeeeee!”

“Meeeeeeee!”

After Ella reprimanded, the thirteen goats reluctantly lowered their heads and started walking towards Lont. These silly goats looked back at William every ten steps with pitiful eyes as if they were a child being bullied while playing.

William ignored them. Since he had already made up his mind, he would not retract his words.

James watched all this amusedly. With just a glance, he realized that there had been a significant change in the attitude of the goats. This confirmed some of his suspicions.

"William, may I ask you a question? Of course, if you don't want to answer then you don't have to say anything, ” James said with a smile.

William looked into his grandfather's eyes and saw how serious he was. After thinking about it, he firmly nodded his head.

"Have you become stronger after killing monsters?" James asked.

This question surprised William. This was one of his secrets and he wasn't sure if saying this to James was a good idea. However, something deep down tells him that it is okay to put trust in his family.

"If you don't want to answer, that's fine." James took a breath. 'I may be in too much of a hurry. Perhaps, this is not the right time to ask.'

"Yes" replied William. "I get stronger when I kill monsters."

William had thought of many reasons to lie, but in the end, he decided to share one of his secrets with his grandfather.

James did not expect William to give an honest answer. But his answer still surprised him. His face immediately became solemn as he placed his hand over his granddaughter's shoulder.

"All right." James smiled. “Do not tell this secret to anyone other than our family.”

"Understand me" replied William.

"Go away. This is the perfect opportunity for you to become stronger.” James gestured as he dashed towards the valley.

William is not stupid. He understood what his grandfather was trying to tell him. The boy excitedly climbed onto Mama Ella's back and followed her grandfather to battle.

“Be sure to choose strong skills. Something that hits hard, ” James said without looking back. “Don't miss this rare opportunity.”

The corner of William's lips twitched. His grandfather acted as if he fully understood William's circumstances. William doesn't know if this is a good or bad thing. But he was sure of one thing.

His grandfather did this for his own good.

'I think I need to talk heart-to-heart with grandfather after this is over, ' William thought. James' attitude surprised him, but since he was his grandfather, and he had already told him his secret, William would only go with the flow for now.

Recalling his grandfather's words, William checked his status page. It was time to pick a strong offensive skill. His Ice Mage Job Class had risen several levels after the battle with Wolf Dire.

With Gavin's blessing, he now had some skill points that he could use to pick a skill that could inflict great damage. After examining the skills available in the Ice Mage Skill, he decided to maximize the Ice Spike skill.

< Ice Spikes ( 10 / 10 ) >

(20 Points Mana)

— Make razor-sharp ice spikes from the ground in one line to inflict damage. Opportunity to freeze the enemy.

— Damage given equivalent to Intelligence x 6

— Cannot Freeze Boss Monster

As for his remaining skill points, he decided to put them on his Ice Wall Skill.

< Ice Wall 5 / 5 >

(10 Points of Mana)

— Create Ice Wall at target location.

— Ice Wall is three meters high and four meters wide.

— Ice Wall has a thickness of one meter.

As soon as James and William came out of the forest, a moving black sea appeared in front of them. Compared to the hundreds of wolves William faced in the forest, this wave of wolves was the real one.

William glanced at his grandfather to see his reaction. He wanted to know if they were in any danger. Contrary to his expectations, the old man seemed unaffected by the sheer number of numbers in front of him.

Sensing his grandson's gaze, James turned his head as he gave William a few words of reassurance.

"It's just a small group" James said as if it wasn't a big deal. “The real issue is Centennial and Millennial Beasts. The beast is very cunning and will not face us directly. They will first use the bait, to make us tired before moving. ”

A lightning bolt struck in the sky followed by the screams of an eagle. John and his best friend Blitz are fighting a long-distance battle with the Thousand-Men Beast.

James walked over to Marcus to discuss their plan of action. The wolves had regrouped like soldiers awaiting the orders of their general. Howls echoed in the valley as thousands of Dire Wolves announced their presence.

"Boss, what's the plan?" ask Markus. He watched William and Ella in the distance, but he said nothing. Obviously, James took his granddaughter with him for a reason.

James stood in front of everyone as he scanned the surroundings. Excluding William, there were nine warriors present. They all looked at Wolf Tide with complicated expressions.

“It looks like we are fighting the losers,” James replied after observing the wolf wave. "This wolf is the old generation."

"What was that year?" ask Markus.

“If I remember correctly, it has been three years since Beast Tide last time,” Jekyll comments. “It looks like this year's fight is quite tight.”

They all thought the same thing. Since a wave of ferocious beasts appeared here, it meant that other villages and cities around the Kingdom also suffered the same fate.

"Don't worry. Even if the sky collapses, Lont will be safe from danger,” James announced.

Everyone present agreed. This was something they never doubted.

William listened to the conversation with a serious expression. He had observed the adults, but none of them seemed too bothered by the current situation. What William doesn't know is that the only thing that bothers adults before is the safety of children.

Since the children had already returned to Lont, the adults no longer needed to worry about restraint. In fact, they were eager to face the wolf tide like it was some kind of special event.

"Master, is Young Master okay to be here?" Helen asked.

James grinned as he looked at William from the side. “Don't worry about him. He's just here to gain experience. But don't overestimate him. Stay by his side and make sure he doesn't become wolf food.”

"As you command." Helen slouch.

James faced everyone and told them his battle plan.

"Let's get rid of the two Centennial Beasts first, but make sure not to kill them" James announced. "Cut off their limbs, so they can't run around."

"Does the old rule apply?" Ava raised her hand. He had a bloodthirsty expression on his face as he floated above the ground. Wind blades danced around him as if it was part of his clothes.

"Of course." James nodded his head. "Anyone who kills the most wolves will get a Core Beast from two Centennial Beasts."

"All right!"

"Now it's time to party!"

"Haha, sorry guys, that core will be mine."

“Be quiet, Markus. Those cores are mine.”

Everyone started to row as they prepared for battle. James looked at his grandson and nodded his head. William also nodded his head as a receipt. The two of them had discussed a few things along the way.

William was not allowed to join them in front of them against the Wolf Tide. James explicitly told him to only act after receiving his orders. The boy knew that this was not the time to play Hero, his grandfather had already set the stage for him. All he needed to do was play his part and reap the benefits.

James took the giant War Axe and held it with both hands. A fearless smile hung on his face as he started running towards the countless wolves in front of him.

"destroy it!" James commanded while raising his axe to battle.

The others ran behind him except Jekyll. The dentist shook his head and walked leisurely towards the battlefield.

“Hei! Beware,” comments Jekyll. Although he seemed to be reprimanding his comrades, there was a joyous glint in his eyes.

"Young Master, don't be surprised by what you'll see" Helen said with a sweet smile on her face. “It's been years since I last saw them this happy.”

William said nothing in response. He already had an idea of what Aunt Helen hinted at. Upon seeing the battle in the forest, he realized that the Lont people were not as simple as they seemed.

Right at that moment, a fierce roar echoed in the valley as James leaped high up in the air. The muscles in his body bulged out as he plunged fearlessly into the middle of the waves of ferocious beasts.

Like a meteor falling from the sky. James slammed his Battle Axe to the ground. What followed was an explosion that shattered the wolf's body into meat paste.

A loud scream echoed in the valley as Thunder, the Wild Boar, charged straight through the sea of wolves like a bulldozer. Everything that stood in his way was torn apart.

Ella watched this scene and bleated. His nails scavenged the ground as if he was also preparing to attack the wolf tide.

"Calm down, Mama" said William, patting his neck. “Time we will arrive.”

“Meeeeh!”

To be honest, William knew that Ella was still not at the level where she could attack through the front of the battle. Even so, he believed that there would come a day where he could walk unimpeded across the land.

William will try hard to make it happen. Ella understood what William was thinking. Although he was disappointed, he stopped scavenging the ground. He stood on the spot to watch the battle with determination.

Suddenly, two unique wolves appeared on the battlefield. Their height was four meters and their blue fur made them stand out from the crowd. There were two horns protruding out from their heads and they shone with green lights.

"Two subordinates have arrived" Helen commented. “Young Master, take a good look. Both are Centennial Beasts. As the name suggests, they were as strong as a hundred people. If you've ever met them during your trip, please, run as far as you can. ”

"Don't worry, Aunt Helen" replied William. "I will only fight them when I am sure that I will win."

Two Dire Wolves roared and a powerful shockwave swept across the battlefield. James and the others were pushed back, but they were unaffected. In their eyes, those two wolves were no big deal.

"Remember, don't kill them." James reminds everyone. "Just cut off their limbs."

"I'm coming!" Shawn, the Baker, laughed as the rollers in his hand extended ten meters. Nearby Centennial Beasts hid behind trees.

William watched with sparkling eyes as Shawn flew across a hundred meters in the air. Shawn was about to unleash his killer move when he saw a purple glint in the corner of his eye.

"Damn it!" Shawn immediately pulled out his rolling pin and used it as a shield to block the lightning launched towards him.

Applause resounded as Shawn was blasted across the valley. Everything happened so quickly and everyone was shocked. Shawn's body is thrown into the air and falls in the woods behind William.

As if announcing his arrival, the ten meter tall purple wolf howled furiously. Four horns protruded on his head and lightning tendrils danced at its tip.

A song plays in the background as the system announces the arrival of the Last Boss. William could only swallow his saliva while staring at the Monster Boss in front of him. He knew that at his current level, defeating this boss was just a dream.
