The walls of the room looked boring, only given a white base paint. Some cracks here and there were clearly visible and it seemed that the one occupying this room did not consider it a problem. I'm not surprised, Fanny Pranata.
Then the mature brown-skinned girl began to pay attention to the floor. Made of marble, no wood. And the furniture that adorned the small room was just a big table made of polycarbonate and some chairs and bookshelves that seemed to have just been made from a used plywood. There are no windows, only AC. In serious situations, it's possible that the room could expose him to claustrophobia.
The woman in front of Fanny looked very neat. Her hair was tied back, revealing the smooth skin of her neck. His brown eyes stared at Fanny unsettledly.
Doctor Rani Sanjaya may be the youngest doctor Fanny knows in the city, but she thinks she is much wiser than her contemporaries. But Fanny still hated him.
The woman's lips flexed slightly as she read the file in her hand. Then he started writing something. Something that might extend Fanny's attachment to this room. Maybe three more months, or maybe another year, or maybe more! Just thinking about it made the girl feel a bit difficult to breathe. No, not now, Fanny!
“You why Fanny? Are you feeling panicked?” Doctor Rani quickly removes the file in her hand and begins to dictate to Fanny what she should do. “It's okay Fanny, take a breath, get it out. Breathe in, eject.” Twenty seconds later, the girl finally remembered how to breathe properly.
“Doctor, I—”
“It's okay, Fanny. Being hit by a panic attack is not something strange.” He started adding something else in the cursed file. Then he murmured, “It turns out you still experience it often.”
The girl shrugged my shoulders in response to doker Rani's statement. He nodded the doctor. This has been their umpteenth meeting, but Fanny still easily panicked because of the small things.
“How's your new school?” Doctor Rani asked carefully, and again, the girl shrugged her shoulders. She knew she had to tell her progress at school if she didn't want to make the whole house anxious.
“I have new friends,” he said softly. The girl's throat was dry. At least Doctor Rani is happy because finally her patients can be more responsive.
“Oh, yes? Who are they?”
“Sara and Demian,” the girl muttered.
“Are they good people?”
He nodded his shoulder again. This time his eyes were glued to the clock on the bookshelf. Twelve o'clock.
The girl immediately rushed to pick up her bag and walked out without saying anything, only a faint nod to doctor Rani.
When the woman gets out of the car to greet Fanny, her black hair is blown off the wind which gives a magical effect to anyone who sees it. Even at the age of 38 and already having a child, Lia Sasmita Iskandar can still look perfect with her distinctive smile and dark eyes.
Lia was holding her four-year-old son, Gio. The toddler who also had mature brown skin like Fanny looked very excited when she saw the girl.
“Hai Gio darling..” greet Fanny directly. When there was no longer any distance separating them, he immediately grabbed Gio into his arms, and the toddler let out a happy cry.
“Where was it with Doctor Rani?” Lia asked without further ado.
“Current,” replied Fanny while walking to the car.
Far from his heart, Fanny really did not want to make a Lia Sasmita Iskandar worried. The woman has done much for him. He found a professional therapist, enrolled him in one of the best schools in town, gave him new clothes... Fanny felt she had to make sure that none of that would go to waste.
Since Fanny's mother left with her new husband and only left the girl with a pile of money enough to finance her life until graduating high school. He really lived without direction. He closed all the doors almost to anyone because most of them just wanted to make it as gossip material.
But Fanny's life changes again when a Lia Sasmita Iskandar, the only brother her father has, reappears like a ghost. During this time the woman and her husband worked in Batam, and Fanny had completely forgotten about him.
When she reappears on the doorstep, Fanny cannot help herself from crying in her arms. It was then that Fanny really realized how much she actually missed that woman so much.
The girl regained her senses from her daydream because she felt pressure on her fingers.
“Ani, we play baleng later ya at home,” pinta Gio to Fanny while playing the fingers of the girl. Fanny sometimes still hard to believe how fast the toddler is growing!
“Oh, yes dong!” Fanny smiled, and Gio nodded his hand into the air. “Yeay! Iyo loves playing with Ani!” the toddler then laughed. Her laughter is transmitted to Fanny and her mother.
The streets seemed deserted, and the journey felt short as Lia opened a conversation with Fanny, and Gio is still very excited to chat about their plans that will spend the rest of Saturday watching spongebob and playing lego.
Lia and her husband, Fadi Iskandar, bought a unit in Citra Land Surabaya and brought Fanny to live with them and also their son on their first day of moving duties in Surabaya. Lia's husband used to be the supreme leader of a Singaporean textile factory in Batam, and Lia was his secretary. It seems that the company has now successfully expanded to Surabaya.
“Next week of your second week at school,” Lia reminds her niece. “Are you ready?” ask her with a dirty smile.
Fanny popped her eyes. “Not at all,” he replied, successfully making Lia laugh. When the car was perfectly parked, Lia smiled as her head was filled with thoughts of what she should cook for dinner. Something that will be greatly appreciated by those who know how valuable every second of my time is spent on family.
