Best Defense

Best Defense
Mia's behavior.

I woke up and splashed my body with warm water under the shower. I loved the warm sensation that was lurking in my body and bones, my eyes were closed to absorb it. Letting it cover me so that the hardness of my heart melts, and disappears as the warm water flows down.

I galloped out of the bathroom using a white bathrobe and a towel that rolled up my head. I saw Sean was putting his tie on, I grabbed the tie from his hand and helped him.

Almost a month into our marriage, Sean stayed true to what he said was waiting for me. Not once did he touch me, we just slept, ate, and chatted like friends. Slowly I began to accept her presence, time managed to erode my discomfort while with her. Not infrequently Sean teases me with his touch, but he still survives with his promise.

I knew it wasn't easy for her to hold back her desires, especially when looking at me who sometimes shamelessly changed clothes in front of her. My habit must have been really torturing him, I did it on purpose to see how good his defense was, and he was really good at hiding his feelings.

"You're getting good at doing your job as a wife, huh!" she said as soon as I finished putting the tie around her neck, both of her hands stuck to my waist.

I smiled, "Well, I've been married before, pairing a tie has been my specialty for years." I landed my hand on his shoulder, then moved slowly down to his chest, and then moved slowly down to his chest, I could feel his heartbeat through my palm.

Sean sprinkled my kisses, a morning habit he had always done since the first day we lived together, pulling me into his arms, his muscular arms that kept me warm and soothing. "Thank you for being my wife." I nodded to her chest, I stroked her back, I slowly stood on my tiptoes and kissed her cheeks, answering her words in better deeds than words, lately I know Sean likes it better.

"Are you going to the store today?" Sean asked while taking his suit that I had prepared on the walk in closet.

I nodded, I removed the towel roll in my head, "There are some things I need to check, I can't leave everything to Denise. She'll curse me for continuing to trouble her." I pulled the hair dryer out of the dresser drawer that's been there since I set up our room.

Just like before, I don't let anyone into my room. It's just me, Sean, Ben, or Mia and Mom who sometimes come in. Mia and Mom stayed with me, oh, Miss Diana too. The widow did not want to get away from me, she remained attached even though I said I would pay her severance with a full year's salary. He said it was more fun to see a handsome man than to live as a lonely rich widow.

My activities came to a halt when I heard a knock on the door, I stepped up and heard Ben's voice faintly shouting outside, the baby must have thrashed and forced its way in.

"Daddy!" as he ran towards Sean as soon as the door opened, Ben was getting used to Sean, even now the boy was looking for Sean more than me. Sean really knows how to win my son's heart, and Sean taught Ben to call him Daddy. At first Ben refused, still calling Sean as uncle, but Sean continued to instigate it with the lure of lollipop, so the child was reduced to him.

I saw Sean grabbing Ben who was running, taking him to the sling and kissing Ben's cheek in a fit of anxiety, "Good morning, Ben! Did you sleep well? Can you tell Daddy about your dream last night?"

I continued my hair-drying activities, letting Sean listen to Ben's babbling about his dreams that were either true or not. I kept hearing Ben sayings about his lollipop dreams, I chuckled at my place when he said there was a grandfather who gave him so many colorful lollipops in his dreams, Sean was seen responding enthusiastically, occasionally saying 'oh, yes!' or 'wow' with a look of wonder that is not made up. It's Sean's other fascination that makes me start to melt into him.

I put the hair driyer back in the dresser drawer, I went to Ben and Sean who were still chatting in bed. "Ben, Daddy has to go to the office. How about Ben play with Mommy right now." I said on my knees by the bed. Sean will be really late if he continues to serve Ben who continues to chat.

Ben hugged Sean tightly, objecting to my offer. I saw Sean just raise his eyebrows while smiling, "Ben, come on! Daddy had to work to buy him a colorful lollipop like the one that Grandpa gave you in your dream." I immediately made him sigh, released their arms and poured out at me. The word lollipop always works.

"Daddy, promise?" he said while sticking out his pinky. Sean nodded, replying to Ben by linking their pinkies.

I took Ben to follow Sean's steps down, not intending to change my bathrobe in the least. We sat down at the dinner table, joined by Mia and Mom who had been there for breakfast.

Small and pleasant chats were always present as we spent breakfast every morning, most of us who listened to Ben who was not tired of discussing lollipops, somehow my son could not remove the lollipop from his head. I don't know if other kids his age are, too, which is obviously the lollipop that's always been the topic of our conversation with him.

Sean had already finished the egg sandwich on his plate, he rushed to his feet and put a kiss on my cheek, the same thing he did to Mom and Ben, except for Mia. "I'm leaving," he said, walking away, just a few steps I saw him turn around, "Mia, you can use the car you asked yesterday, ask Darren for the key." Sean stepped back after saying that to Mia.

I stare at Mia, asking for an explanation of what Sean meant to her. Mia raised her shoulders, "I just borrowed her porsche for a bit. She also rarely uses it anyway, so, I don't think it's any harm in me borrowing it."

This girl started again, she always took advantage of Sean's kindness. Just two weeks ago he whined to ask Sean to replace his Mazda CX5 with a Mercedes-AMG GT for 2.8 billion, and Sean foolishly complied. I protested to him, but Sean said there was no need to be dizzy, with his pride he showed off that he could get that kind of money in a month.

"Mia, can you stop taking advantage of my husband's kindness? Didn't Sean buy you the car you wanted, so why are you borrowing the car now? Don't tell me you want him to change your car again!" I said with a huff, I am ashamed of my good and stupid husband. His kindness makes me feel even more guilty because he hasn't touched me at all to this day.

I stared intently at Mia, she seemed indifferent, her next words surprised me even more, "You fool, why don't you ask her for something when she can give you the whole world. What's wrong if I ask my sister-in-law for something?"

Enough already! I can't stand this anymore, Mia always acts as she pleases. I hit the dinner table with both hands, my eyes closed with anger, a second later I realized and immediately regretted my actions, Ben cried in fear because of surprise, I saw Mother also looking at me confused, and I felt like I was just too, I even heard Miss Diana's startled scream from the kitchen.

"Mia, we'll finish this later." I said, leaving the dinner table with Ben, I kissed Mom on the cheek and apologized to her for my insolent attitude.

"Ben, I'm sorry Mommy. Mommy didn't mean to scare you, don't cry anymore, honey."
