...Sean Danial Warner POV's....
"So, this is the place?"
I stepped out of the car, slammed the door and set my foot on the highway, my surroundings almost pitch dark because the light from the street lighting was blocked by a thin, straight fog after the rain. The sound of pebbles rubbing against the palm of my shoe became the only sound that was heard other than the roar of the car.
"How long do you think we've got?" I turned my head towards Erick who was walking towards me.
He clamped a cigarette in his mouth while one hand reached into the pocket of his shirt and grabbed a match, then ignited the fire. Erick joined me on the side of the highway guardrail that had been split in two, and each of his plates shot out like a broken tree. Fractions of the body and the car glass scattered around it, while the tire tracks were clearly printed from the edge of the highway to along the path leading to the base of the dark cliff.
I wondered in my heart what would happen if I were actually inside that slipping Ford.
"Not long..." Erick spoke softly as he exhaled smoke slowly from his mouth. His gaze drifted far towards the flickering light coming from the surrounding residential area. "They will soon realize that you disappeared from there" he said, looking at me.
"Then they'll come after you. It won't take long, however they've put a transmitter on your phone that's in that car." he continued, pointing to the bottom of the abyss.
If you recall, these last two days have been absolutely insane. After the plane that Paula and I were on landed in Malaysia, Syaiful's men took us to a gangster-owned facility on the outskirts of Selangor. At first it was quite difficult for me to stick to the plan, not knowing who to trust.
Intetpol said it would put their agents among the Syaiful men who came with us, but the thing was, at that time I had no idea who they meant. Until he showed up the next day, then revealed the details of the plan to get me out of the gangsters.
Meanwhile, as expected, as soon as I arrived in Malaysia, Syaiful's men urged me to open the data encryption immediately before allowing me to see Dave. I firmly believe their attitude was influenced by the conversation between Paula and I that they heard while on the plane. Because after we got to Malaysia, they didn't let me be in the same room as Paula. Exactly what I need.
I was calm because I didn't have to hear her provocative words. And for the sake of my composure, Paula really had to get rid of before their entourage took me across the border to Singapore. Interpol's place has set everything up.
Kemvaki about the files they're looking for, I can't follow their orders to hack the data. I told them that the files could only be accessed in certain coordinates, at a distance of fifteen miles southwest of Singapore, or that the data would be corrupted due to its complex security system.
Of course I made it all up, because this journey alone is just a cover. Everything was planned, for the good. I can't complain about this. I gave the original data to Interpol, the only one I got from Dave. And now they have managed to solve some of the names in the file, the authenticity and the source of the data. After tonight, they'll move on and get everything done.
I have to admit, I was a bit surprised when I finally found out who was the person behind the data creation.
"Why would he want that file back on him? I mean, Paula made it to hand over to you as evidence to subdue her father's plot, this doesn't make sense. Why did he change his mind?"
Erick exhaled his cigarette smoke one last time, before dropping it on the ground and stepping on it. "Paula meets Jack Duron, a rival of the gangsters who teamed up with his father before he left for Indonesia. Another group is blacklisted, and controls half of the illegal businesses in Indonesia" Erick explained.
"Their names are also in the file. In short, Jack Duron must have offered Paula something more interesting than our deal."
Erick nodded his head. "Maybe."
"What will happen to him?"
He looked at me for a moment before throwing his gaze forward again. "That should happen. Come on, we gotta get out of here before those guys show up." He walked past me while lightly patting my shoulder. "You don't want them to see you here after finding the carcass and 'your body' inside, do you? It would be very creepy." he continued joking, accompanied by a soft laugh while getting into the driver's side in the car.
I glanced at the scene of the fake accident once more before getting into the car.
"I thought you'd put all your personal belongings in that Ford." I glanced at Erick who was driving next to me, realizing that he was commenting on my wedding ring with Franda who I was looking at on my finger.
"Yes, but not this one." I said. That thing will never escape me.
I closed my eyes to remember all the moments that had happened in our marriage. Trying to remember her voice, and it was very soothing, as if I felt her being next to me. Talk to me, and smile at me. Oh, my God, I miss him.
"Why not?" erick's voice pulled my mind back.
My lips spontaneously curled high while I imagined Franda's face in my mind. "This is my lucky charm. You won't understand." I murmured as I glared at him. Erick just grunted softly without replying to me.
We have been driving all night leaving Selangor, away from the crash point, then taking a detour through Batu Pahat District to stay in a safe area. Now Erick was about to take me to an old hangar in the area, preparing to leave Malaysia while waiting for someone to report the accident to the local police.
Suddenly he reached out his hand to turn on the car radio. Pressing for a moment then pausing on the local news channel. The voice of the radio announcer was reading traffic in Malay. I tried to focus my attention on the broadcast.
..."A traffic accident was reported recently in Area 18, Klang. The collision occurred at a highway crossing eight miles from Selangor, resulting in a Ford car being thrown twenty meters away and slipping into a ravine. Police arriving at the scene diverted traffic to another alternative route, as they attempted to evacuate the bodies of the victims squeezed inside the Ford car. According to information circulating the driver of the ill-fated car was Sean Warner, a successful young entrepreneur from Indonesia. Police are investigating the cause..."...
Erick turned off the radio and glanced at me with a meaningful look. "It looks like we've managed to lead them properly, and the police have done their job, that's good." he muttered calmly, then turned his gaze back on the street in front of him.
"They've found the car, here's 'my life'." I connected his words.
"Yes, everything is according to plan. You've just been officially declared dead in a car accident. The news will definitely be broadcasted globally soon, and the headline will catch everyone's attention."
From the corner of my eye, I saw him looking at me. "Prepare, we'll take you back to Indonesia tonight. It's time to execute the real plan" he said.
