...Liliana Warner's...

"Have you come out?" Dad asked probably a hundred times in the last hour.

I was breathing out in frustration. If he's just impatient, then what about me? I'm worried half-dead waiting for the damn email we've been waiting for so long. "Yet, dad."

I moved the mouse and refreshed the incoming email page on my laptop. We've been sitting in the living room for the last hour. With a feeling of anxiety waiting for news that is either happy or just a nightmare.

It concerns my future. If I fail this time, then I don't know what else to do. I've fought my way to death to make it to this point, all of my abilities have been given up and I've learned so hard that I've lost weight.

Dad and mom nagged me so many times because I was too focused on pursuing my one wish, without them knowing, they were the reason I did it. Mom's complicated background made me feel challenged to learn the human mindset. I want to know more about the behavior of those around me, and maybe be able to help one of them someday.

"I'll make some more tea." Mom stood up, patting my shoulder a few times before stepping into the kitchen. This is the third time he has made tea. Activities that he deliberately did repeatedly to overcome his nervousness.

As I refreshed the courtyard again, we were suddenly startled by the sound of the doorbell ringing loudly. Dad and I jumped in shock, almost jumping. Then I stood up and walked towards the front door.

When I opened the door, I found Uncle Taylor and his wife standing in front of the entrance. "My love, Lily.." Uncle Taylor hugged me. "Have the results come out?" A curious look was clearly drawn on his face.

I'm shaking. "We're still waiting." I turned to embrace aunty Sam, the woman who helped me a lot in achieving this mission. "I miss you, guys. Come in, dad and mom are waiting."

The two of them stepped first while I followed behind. I admire my parents' friends, they're very nice people, especially aunty Sam. His role was very much in helping my efforts. She did not hesitate to take the time to willingly stay at our house and leave her husband.

"Man, your face is so tangled. Relax a little why, anyway! I'm sure our great Lily will make it. I taught him myself, didn't I, my dear nephew?"

I chuckled at Uncle Taylor's chattering and nodded. "Yes, you helped me a lot, sir. Thank you." I replied insinuatingly. Teaching what he meant was reading my books and explaining what I had learned. Totally useless.

I looked towards the laptop, once again refreshed the incoming email page, but it had not generated anything. God, what if I really fail? Mom and Dad will be very disappointed.

"Where are the other kids?"

"I'm here." Karen, the mouth of the sword answered as she approached us holding a packet of lay in her hand. "Hi, Taylor... Hi, Sam!"

This time Karen was quite helpful. At least his mouth will ease the tension and refresh our mind a little.

"What result hasn't come out yet?" karen asked as soon as she sat beside me, her eyes looking at the laptop while her mouth was chewing on food, making a noise that greatly disturbed the comfort of my ears.

"Hm. I can't believe this. We've been waiting for over an hour and not a single email has come in." I grumbled in annoyance.

Karen squinted her eyes, seeming to be thinking of something. Let me tell you, besides her sharp mouth, Karen's brain is pretty sharp. It's not uncommon for him to say something we didn't expect before and mostly he's right. "Have you checked the spam folder?"

Oh, my gosh... Why don't I think about that? Liliana Warner, you've just been defeated by a twelve-year-old!

I immediately opened the spam folder. And yes, the email went in there! Now, thanks to Aunt Mia who gave birth to Karen. This time I really sincerely said it.

Before opening the email, I moved to my side with my laptop. "We'll see it, dad."

Dad looked enthusiastic, rubbing his palms into his pants with an impatient look. Uncle Taylor and aunty Sam stood behind the sofa, mom who just emerged from the kitchen while carrying a teapot did not have time to say anything to greet her two best friends because our views were all focused on my laptop.

But then mom suddenly turned the laptop screen to face him, just before I opened the email, making us all throw protest gazes at him. She's cute. "Don't be a dramatic pretender" he said, lightly patting the back of my hand that was on top of the mouse.

Mom's sudden and unexpected spontaneous movements made me push a button and the email must have opened. We looked at mom with anxious feelings while she squinted. "Oh, I need glasses." The snoring is as light as cotton, no matter how people feel in front of him.

Footprints of protest grunts instantly filled the room. Dad was the first to speak. "Franda, please don't joke around." he said in a desperate tone.

The old woman who served as his wife shook her head lightly. "I'm not kidding, Warner." He looked at Karen. "Sweetheart, please get my glasses in the study."

"I can help you read it, mom." - Karen.

"No, just get me my glasses. Hurry."

I let out a sigh while Karen was forced to step her foot into mom's study.

"How about we have tea while waiting for Karen to walk like a snail?" muttered uncle Taylor.

It feels like I snatched the laptop out of mom's hands, but it's not a good idea considering he's the most powerful in the house. Dad alone could never fight it. Maybe only occasionally he got a chance to silence his wife's mouth, even if he was lucky. But most dads are always unlucky.

I grumbled in my heart, cursing Karen who I believe deliberately linger taking mom's glasses. Dad rubbed his face rough while Uncle Taylor and his wife were busy sipping tea. Mom was still casually leaning against the sofa while holding the laptop in her lap.

"Karen, hurry!" muttered and half yelled as Karen emerged from the direction of mom's study door.

"Patience a little why, dad. Seen now or tomorrow the results will not change." he replied ketus.

Yes, he was right..Why should we rush to see the email? And what if the contents don't match what I expected. Oh, please, God, don't let that happen.

Mom put on her glasses and looked at the email on my laptop. For a while his countenance did not change until he suddenly looked like he had a heart attack. Both of his hands were stuck to his chest with his mouth slightly open. Then he raised his head to look at me while shaking weakly.

I'm squeezing. Lost my hope. I'm failing. I hid my face in my palm and I cried. Dad tried to calm me down by rubbing my back but the opposite happened, my crying was getting louder.

"Ben, bring us champagne!" Mom suddenly shouted at my sister.

I'm dumbfounded. Oh, no, wait... "Mom, please!"

"You made it, sweetheart. We have to celebrate." He turned the laptop screen towards me. "You're going to Stanford."

Rebellion of my eyes and mouth opened wide while cheers of happiness began to echo throughout the room. I was still dumbfounded as dad suddenly lifted me up high. "Liliana, I'm proud of you, 'lil lady." katany with sparkling eyes.

I was still in shock and froze while the others began to take turns hugging me. "Is this real?" I asked like a fool, I don't know who.

I had guessed that I would succeed because my own efforts could not be said to be playful. But the thought of me going to Stanford University was the most surprising thing. It still feels hard to believe.

"I told you, Lily, we're gonna make it!"
