CHAPTER 2: Shy smile
Moments later, Evangeline is seen coming down the stairs with a change of clothes. His hair was not completely dry because he did not dry it properly.
Ardiaz, who was cutting something on a plate, saw his wife approaching, and noticed how she walked.
There was a sense of guilt in his heart when he saw how strange Evangeline was walking. But as a man, he felt proud of himself.
He woke up and welcomed his wife. Attentively, he raised the chair and invited Evangeline to sit down.
Evangeline looked at Ardiaz's face which looked a little different tonight.
“You look so happy?” ask Evangeline.
“What is clear once?” ask Ardiaz back.
“Ehm... Usually your aura is always gloomy, but this time it is really bright,” Evangeline said.
Ardiaz chuckles. He then kissed the top of his wife's head and hugged her from behind.
“Of course I'm happy, to be together with my adorable wife,” said Ardiaz.
His naughty hand pinched Evangeline's nose, until the woman complained of pain.
He punched her in the arm and made Ardiaz take off his arms.
The man chuckled again and walked towards the chair across. He proceeded to cut his steak into a bribe size, and exchanged it for Evangeline's still-intact property.
“Eat. You must be hungry,”.
Evangeline could not hide her shy smile, at the small attention she received from her husband.
“I never knew you had a side like this. I guess, you'll forever be stiff like a straw doll,” led Evangeline.
“You will be even more surprised after today, with all my sides you have never seen,” said Ardiaz.
He grinned with a blink of one eye, made Evangeline squint, and held back her smile.
They both enjoyed their first dinner as a couple.
When finished, Evangeline intended to clean up their food scraps, but was immediately prevented by Ardiaz.
“You just sit down. Let me take care of everything. You must still feel bad, right?” Ardiaz.
“It's okay. I'm just not used to it yet,” says Evangeline.
She brought all the dirty dishes and cutlery to the kitchen, leaving Evangeline still silent as she stared at her husband's back.
Ardiaz was seen instantly washing their food marks, and he suddenly felt a hand curled around his waist.
The man turned his head slightly and found his wife leaning behind his back.
“Are you really going to always be here, with me?” ask the woman suddenly.
Ardiaz immediately stopped his activities. He then turned off the water faucet and then broke the wife's embrace.
The man turned around and cupped Evangeline's little face that looked pias without a sweep of make up.
Gently and affectionately, Ardiaz kissed the pale lips, then looked back at the beautiful face of his wife.
“Trust me, everything will be fine. You don't have to worry about anything anymore. I will always be by your side. Understand?” ardiaz tried to calm Evangeline's heart.
“But, didn't you say there was still something you needed to take care of?” ask Evangeline.
“Ehm... Just one more problem. I just need to meet and make a reckoning with my parents' killers, and after that I promise to let go of everything related to this city, and also Lucifer. We'll get back to living comfortably like we used to. You'll wait for me in a minute, won't you?” sahut Ardiaz's.
Evangeline nodded despite the doubts in her heart, and the fear of losing Ardiaz again.
Seeing the obvious anxiety emanated from the look in the wife's eyes, Ardiaz again felt guilty to the woman.
He also brought Evangeline into his arms, clutching the small body tightly as if he no longer wanted to let go of the person he was precious to.
Ardiaz told Evangeline everything. However, he still leaves one truth, about who was behind the massacre of his family, as well as his relationship with Aaron's assault on Hemachandra.
