Rain woke up early today. Well, she actually always gets up on time but for today she wakes up faster than usual.

He had prepared supplies during the training. His master ordered to prepare food supplies and weapons sets and even equipment for camping like adventurers.

They both left the morning after breakfast.

They passed through several villages using local cow carts as a means of transportation. But as they got closer to the forest, they chose to walk.

Actually this forest is quite far from the village where Alex lives. It will take at least half a day to arrive by train. However since this was the largest forest of the surrounding forest and likely contained more dangerous supernatural beings, then this was a suitable place to practice.

Rain thinks they will do the hunting as when hunting activities are done by the count to commemorate the day the Fertiphile alliance is formed.

But he was wrong, both of them just went on the outskirts of the forest. They even tend to choose safe roads.

"Rain, what are you thinking?" ask Alex.

Rain did not answer firmly. But he nodded his head with a little hesitation.

"Well, maybe this doesn't live up to your expectations. We're not going to do that" Alex said.

"You'd better sit down" Alex continued.

Rain sat cross-legged on the ground. The soil is not damp so it is not too much of a problem.

"Rain listen. This is a secret between you and me. Not even my subordinates know. Can I trust you?"

Rain was surprised when his master said that. He nodded immediately.

"My lord, I will keep this secret even if it's life at stake."

"Don't be so tense. So well, it's a secret but if this threatens your life you don't have to make sacrifices."

Alex was silent for a moment. Then he continued.

"Rain, do you know your potential?"

Rain replied doubtfully.

"Master once said that I have the potential to be a great swordsman."

Alex laughed a little. This was not him insulting but he was appreciating the memories of this subordinate of his.

"Well, you're not wrong. But I will tell you more details. Rain, you have the potential. If I told you that you can become a hero with your potential would you believe?"

Rain almost jumped in surprise. How not, the position of the hero is not an arbitrary position. If you use the temple hierarchy as an analogy, then the hero is equated with saint.

Heroes are the god's chosen people. They were born when the world fell into darkness. When the civilization of mankind is not only human but all other humanoid civilizations and up to the demihuman civilization experiences an imbalance due to the actions of demonoids.

Of course each nation has its own designation but all humanoids are humans, elves, and dwarves, even beastmen agree to call the chosen person a hero.

Although Rain never received any formal education, but heroes are very famous, the more famous they have their own folklore. So how could Rain not know what is meant by hero.

But to be able to reach such a position ....

Rain cold sweat. If this was anyone else he could assume this was just a joke but the one speaking was his master, a person who had never uttered a joke like this.

Rain did not lie. He had absolutely no idea what was in his master's two hands. He thought it was magic.

Alex just nodded in understanding. Then the two objects in each of his hands disappeared. He lowered his hand and explained briefly.

"Rain, what is in my right hand is an energy called aura.  You certainly already know. It was an energy that many knights possessed. That's why your previous master was able to kick your sword into a break using only his foot. Then in my left hand earlier was the energy called mana. You certainly already know as well, which is the source of energy that witches use to cast their magic."

The previous master Alex referred to was Regis. Regis was Rain's master before Rain was given to Alex.

Rain actually did not like to hear the name of his former master. However since Alex explained seriously and without any sarcasm, Rain only nodded in understanding. His master had long since explained the existence of those two energies to him. Yet this was the first time he had seen those two forms of energy.

Rain suddenly remembered the words of his master.

"really. Everyone has both energies in their body. Most people are only able to use one. While if they are able to use two energies simultaneously they are called duophons[1]. Hmm... Have you ever heard of an assassin who is able to throw fireballs and use martial techniques at once? Or perhaps you have heard of an archer being able to use a fire spell to create a fire arrow? That's an example of a duofon and they're very few probably only 1% of the energy users that exist."

Suana suddenly froze and awkwardly.

Alex just smiled gently.

Sometimes we have to choose whether we use a balanced composition between mana and aura, or we make one energy more dominant than the other. That's why duophons like eques and paladins are more concerned with the use of mana than aura because most are unable to use both equally. In addition, we must also understand the goals and limitations that we have. The purpose of using energy to maximize its effects and limits is how much weight our bodies are able to withstand."

Alex explains in simple terms the use of mana and aura to Rain. However, Rain had never been educated on these two energies, so he had to explain them in a more concise and very simple way.

When it comes to the use of the aura and where it is more academic, it will discuss the choice of an individual in creating the effect of using a combination of aura and mana.

The use of these two energies can be applied graphically using isoquant curves[2]. These curves are useful for describing different combinations of auras and which ones are needed to create the same effect. So it could be said that aura and mana are input while an effect like destruction is output.

This is very important because if a duofon fails to create the right combination of inputs it will have an effect on the level of output produced, which if we associate mana as M, aura as A, and the effect as output (we can make its mathematical equation derived from the production function that is output \= f(A,M).

So that from the slope of the isoquant curve there will be a delta or marginal substitution[3] input X against Y, vice versa. Where mathematically suppose the degree of substitution of mana for aura is:

Of course, in addition to having to know the appropriate composition between energies to produce output, it must also be understood that there is a limit that must be faced by a duofons is the endurance of his body in controlling energy.

The body's endurance is limited. Not only would duofons even a single energy user also have restrictions that they were able to bear in using energy.

And not just calculate the problem of the right combination in a 'cost' of the same. A duofons must also be able to think pragmatically which is how he is able to fight optimally by minimizing his fatigue.
