The Second Life's

The Second Life's
CV - Official Meeting (I)

The night passed, my body was back fit after sleeping last night. My three ladies let me do whatever I wanted for today. They think I'm being devastated by Idris' death as much as Rose Hindley.

In fact, if there were any ranks of supporters of Idris' death, I would definitely be the one standing at the very front. I passed my routine normally, well, even though the circumstances around me were in an uproar over Idris' death.

However, the one thing I am worried about right now is Dad. Yes, Father. After I had breakfast, Matilda said that Dad came to see me. He was waiting in the living room and had been hosted by Jasmine and Maya.

I finally met Dad, when I went into the living room, Dad was sitting on the sofa staring blankly at the cup of warm tea. I quickly walked up to him and sat on the sofa facing him.

“Dad—”

“Dad knows what you've done, Charlotte,” cut Dad, when I wanted to say hello. He looked at me coldly. His voice shook, there was a huge disappointment in it.

Wh why? Why is Dad that? What do you know?

I finally just scrunched my forehead. “What does Father mean?”

“Charlotte ..., why did you do that? Why do you have to?” ask me with a sad face. “Even you cooperated with your own knights to kill the Emperor.”

The deg!

Instantly, the entire blood in my body rippled strangely. I'm breathless. Yeah, I let Dad's spy watch that scene to make Dad know this. But, why can? How great was your spy until I realized his presence? After all, Ava had used her magic to make everyone in the palace fall asleep.

Did when Ava did that, the spy had not come to the palace yet? Right, it could have been. Now, what am I supposed to tell Dad about this? Lying is not a solution. Father is not easily fooled if you already smell suspicious smells.

Without me wanting, my body trembled. I was so nervous to be known by Dad. For people who don't know the background to my actions, including Dad, this is a criminal act. I don't know what's gonna happen if you don't hide this. But, that's impossible, right?

“I have my own reasons,” I said trying to stay calm. I folded my arms to hide my nervousness. “And I only hope if Dad understands.”

“Is it because you are jealous if the Emperor is with another woman?” guess Dad.

Sure ain't.

“The reason ... is not that simple. I .., I did it because I had to,” I said convolutedly. “This may seem crazy, but I'm trying to protect Vanhoiren my way.”

“And by killing the Emperor? Your own husband?” I stood up and looked at me. No. .., I don't want that kind of accusatory look.

Dad should have believed me.

“Ya.” I'm down. “Can I earn Dad's trust this time?”

It was quiet for quite a while, and my heart was racing along with the length of time I waited for a reply from Dad. But, it turns out that I got a disappointing answer as well as making me think twice about trusting my own father.

“No.” My father said it strictly. “Cannot. Killing is a commendable thing, Charlotte.”

“Not that's the point, Dad. It's the only way everyone's okay. Even Dad will also avoid problems,” I said. “I don't want Dad to justify my actions. But, I just want Dad to be able to believe that I'm doing this with a good long-term goal. I bore my own sins in order to make a better future for this region.”

Dad just shut up. And what broke me the most was, Dad left without saying a word to me.

***

There's still no sign of Dad opening my mouth and leaking my actions. Father also has no proof, and I will protect him even if he doesn't trust me.

“Queen, the horse carriage is ready,” said Maya, on the doorstep of my room

I, who was busy getting dressed, could only nod. This time my makeup is just a natural blotch, and powder. As a mourner, I cannot wear thick makeup.

The dress I was wearing was just an ordinary black dress. I don't have a problem with that.

Matilda was done with her duties, and I immediately went towards the exit of the palace. As usual, Hendery was waiting for me. The entire palace was dressed in all black, including Hendery himself who was now wearing a black suit.

“Give her bag to Hendery,” my orders to Chloe. He's holding a bag of important papers that I'm going to take to the High Court.

“Good, Queen.” Chloe was seen giving the bag to Hendery after Hendery helped me get on the train.

“I'll be home late, just prepare a snack tonight,” my message to Maya and my three ladies.

“Good, Queen,” they say, in unison.

The train eventually dies of the Queen's Palace, heading to the High Court to meet with the Supreme Court Justice.

I have to speed things up and try my best so that Dad doesn't doubt me any more. I also have to officially prepare for Idris' funeral. If it takes too long, the upper class nobles will cornered me.

My head aches from thinking about everything overnight. Problems come non-stop. Therefore, I can only work twice as hard as that problem.

“Looks like the Queen looks moody,” says Hendery.

“Yes, that's a natural thing. Problems make you a different person,” I said ketus. “Is among the spies of Father, there are very talented spies?”

“What does the queen say? What spy?” Hendery pretended not to know.

“Take it easy. I've made our coachman unable to hear this talk. You can talk more casually,” I said.

Hendery breathed a sigh of relief. “Good, then. Lord Viscount only selected three spies. The first was the mysterious person from the Van'ne Border. Then lastly, there was me and also Matilda.”

Maybe it's him.

“He's the same age as us. About ..., Mr. Viscount once said that the person was very secretive and less friendly. I only saw him once,” Hendery said again.

I nodded in understanding. “Once, yes.”

“Indeed, why do you say like that?” asked Hendery, judging by the look on his face now, he was very curious.

“Nothing matters. I'm just curious,” I said lie.

Hendery doesn't need to know any more about my problems with Dad. If he had known, he would have been scared because he already knew that my father knew of our actions.
