...CHAPTRE 30...
...HAPPY NEW YEAR'S...
It's already at the end of December. In a few days, the project that professor Watson was discussing at that time might be held in January. Of course next year. And, while waiting, Rosaline found herself impatient.
He was always thinking about the project and wondering who would be his partner later. Hope partners can work together.
Inwardly, Rosaline wished her partner was Reagan. After all, he already knew her. Reagan was the right choice. Rosaline knew how the man worked and his temperament in society. So, he didn't need to get used to it anymore.
Like de-javu, Rosaline shivered as the cafe door opened and someone ran in. There, Kaylie in a black jacket stood up. Of course with snow covering the top of his head. The girl chuckled and waved, as if greeting Rosaline.
"What are you doing here, Kaylie? Our cafe is closed until next year" Rosaline said as she walked up to the girl.
"Well, man, I didn't come here for coffee or cake. I came here to celebrate the new year with you. Your uncle called me yesterday, invited me to join the little party you're having."
"Well, I haven't heard of this before" Rosaline commented.
Although confused, Rosaline continues to drive Kaylie to their home where Reagan and Daniel are preparing some ingredients for them to roast at midnight.
"I brought the charcoal and saw what I found. We have a guest coming," cried Rosaline, turning her body to show Kaylie to the others.
Reagan, he was shocked and Daniel just smiled broadly at the girl. He directed Kaylie to the bench and said, "Welcome. I thought you wouldn't come because it's twelve o'clock in the evening. Did you bring what I ask?"
Kaylie nodded. "I put it there," Kaylie said as she pointed to the plastic bag she had placed near the grill.
"Great! Now we can start the BBQ party."
Daniel clapped his hands cheerfully and hurriedly lit up the charcoal. For a moment, the fire inside the grill lit up and butter smeared on it. He hummed while preparing the ingredients for the BBQ.
"Can you get the meat, Reggie? It seemed like it was ready for baking," cried Daniel and Reagan nodded.
While Reagan took his meat, Rosaline and Kaylie calmly cut the vegetables.
"It looks like your twin brother doesn't like my arrival. Sorry for interrupting your party. I thought it was just us, so, well that's why I came," she said, feeling uncomfortable.
Rosaline shook her head. "No need to care about it, Kaylie. His face was always like that. I don't even know whether he feels happy or not, because yes that's how it is, his expression is always like that. So just ignore him."
"But—"
"Nothing but. If he's not happy with your arrival, let it be clear me and Daniel are happy you're here" said Rosaline.
He patted Kaylie hard on the back and made the girl groan in pain.
"I didn't expect your punch to be this painful, damn it," Kaylie complained and was rewarded with a small laugh from Rosaline who looked very proud of her punch.
When Reagan stepped in while carrying the meat, he glanced at Kaylie first before turning his head and walking towards Daniel to hand over the meat he was carrying.
"Need help?" Bargain Kaylie, tilted her head to the other side.
Reagan was silent before giving the girl a few glasses for the drink she had brought. "Put it over there" he said, pointing.
Kaylie nodded and did what Reagan told her. Within seconds, Kaylie could feel a sudden silence engulfing them and she knew she didn't like it.
So, to get away from the engulfing silence, Kaylie hurriedly set the table and ignored her trembling hands. Right after he finished and went to leave, suddenly a voice interrupted.
"Thank you for coming here" he said, without looking at Kaylie.
Kaylie. "I'm sorry?" He tilted his head in confusion. "I don't think you like me coming here."
Reagan grunts. "I didn't like you at first, but not anymore."
Kaylie raised her next to her eyebrows. "And what made you change your mind?"
Regan did not answer at first. He just focused on opening the bottle of wine that Kaylie had brought earlier. But, when he opened his mouth to speak, anyone who heard him would not have expected that those words would come out of his mouth.
"Well, my first impression of you was that you were a bad influence on my twin. That's why I don't like you. But, after seeing the two of you yesterday, precisely at the Christmas party that time, I just realized about this. If he looks happier than he has ever been.
"Since he became friends with the golden money, I realized that he had changed. The boy was no longer as cheerful as ever, uninspired about anything, and sometimes he seemed to be always immersed in his own thoughts whenever me and Daniel asked him to speak.
"And you know, when I first heard the rumors about you, he immediately told me the chronology when you punched the woman in the corridor. Well, I was impressed at first but suddenly there was an idea that came to Rosaline's mind, and the idea sounded very risky.
"That's why I didn't like you right away, but now I'm relieved. Thank you for inspiring my twin to fight that woman. That way he can get away from her."
Kaylie. He just stood there like a statue, not knowing what to do or say something to respond to the man's words. After realizing that the silence had hit them again, Kaylie immediately broke it by saying.
"I don't know what to say now, but yeah, thank you. Sometimes he is a coward and I see a toxic relationship in their friendship, so— yes. No need to say thank you for this."
Reagan simply nodded then turned around, leaving Kaylie still dumbfounded behind him. He only realized that Rosaline had been watching him since when she interacted with Kaylie, so Reagan just shrugged his shoulders lazily and walked past her.
"Did he say something bad to you?" rosaline said, probing.
Kaylie. "No. He's good to me."
At first Rosaline wanted to protest, but was interrupted by Daniel shouting their names. Kaylie walked first holding a large plate for the steak Daniel had made and Rosaline followed behind.
They sat on a bench, placed a plate on top and grabbed a bottle of wine before pouring it into the glass. A minute passed, the sky above them was instantly enveloped in fireworks. The four of them smiled and raised the wine glasses high in their hands to cheer and then scream.
"Happy new year!"
Together.
