They carried the crops until the afternoon. A very exhausting activity. Sanubari lay on the terrace with sweat pouring out. His clothes were soaking wet like they had just been plunged into a river.
Green iris Sanubari's eyes looked up at the sky. His pupils caught the radiance of light in the clear sky. The orange sky has been flattened. Even the night beasts began to make noises. The atmosphere was quite soothing.
Sanubari was always curious as to why animals as small as they could have such a loud noise. So loud that humans who many times the magnitude can catch the sound they produce. Suppose insects such as crickets and tonggeret as large as humans, surely humans can be deaf immediately when they start singing.
It seems Sanubari is too quiet. Until such detail is thought. Both in Indonesia, Italy and this place, nature always delivers the same positivity even though the nuances are different. Sanubari still likes it.
Remembering nature made him realize one thing. He did not know the name of the place he was in now from the first time he set foot to this day. Since he could look back, Sanubari only knew that the house he lived in was surrounded by wilderness and rice fields. There were no settlements at all around Canda's grandfather's house.
The twilight passed very quickly. Zunta had called him to take a bath first. Sanubari entered the house. After taking a shower, he went back out and sat on the terrace.
He still wants to enjoy the beauty of nature. His heart longed for the figures he had not seen for a long time. He doesn't know how they are. They don't know what they are thinking or doing.
Were they currently also thinking about him while staring at the starry sky, just like he was doing right now. Whether they still remember it or have forgotten it because it has long disappeared from their side. Sanubari drowned in his own imagination.
Meanwhile, Canda inside the house was almost done preparing dinner. Zunta who had just finished bathing approached Canda.
"Where is Sanu, Cake?"
Zunta and Canda often communicate with the Indonesian language after Sanubari siuman that day. Spanish is only Zunta used when taking online classes.
"Maybe it's outside. Call him to eat!"
"Oh, okay!"
Zunta ran to the back porch but Sanubari was not there. He also ran to the front porch. Zunta looked at Sanubari who was sitting pensively. The seven-year-old girl sat next to Sanubari.
"Sanu why?"
The greeting of Zuta disperse the reverie of Sanubari. Without turning his head, Sanubari replied, "I miss papa and mamak."
Zunta who heard it was sad. He understood Sanubari's feelings because he himself had experienced the same thing. Zunta never knew the figure of father and mother.
Since childhood he was raised by his grandfather. Canda was the only family for Zunta. Initially, he did not understand the role of parents in life because the scope of his interactions was limited. He doesn't care much about it either.
However, since Sanubari was present in his simple life with his grandfather, Zunta often heard Sanubari deliriously calling his parents. Almost every day Sanubari is like that. So often the word papa and mama is called, until Zunta thinks that the old man is like a precious hero who is always remembered.
Out of curiosity, Zunta once again asked about his parents. He often asks Canda to tell him about parents he never met before going to bed. Zunta's curiosity eventually leads Zunta to longing.
However, Zunta's longing may be different from Sanubari's. Zunta only felt for a moment because he never knew what it was like to grow up in the midst of the figure of father and mother. Nevertheless, Zunta still tried to understand Sanubari's feelings.
"SANu want to meet them?"
"Um," Sanubari nodded, "I want to go home."
Zunta grew saddened to hear the word 'home' from Sanubari's mouth. He was used to Sanubari. If Sanubari leaves, perhaps he will feel his true longing for the first time. However, he must not hinder Sanubari's wishes.
"I've been troubling you guys a lot. It doesn't feel good if I trouble more than this. Maybe I'll just ask my way home and go by myself. But, before that I want to help Grandpa Canda a lot first," said Sanubari.
Since Zunta did not return, Canda followed. He saw the two of them sitting side by side. Not wanting to disturb their chatter, Canda decided to wait for a moment.
Canda who was standing by the door heard their conversation. He felt sorry for Sanubari. All this time he kept a secret that had not been told to Sanubari.
Canda was afraid that Sanubari would be even more depressed if he knew the truth. Of course it will have an impact on Sanubari's physical health. So, Canda prefers to be silent for a while.
"Maybe it's time?" inner Canda.
Sanubari's health has arguably recovered in its entirety. Maybe it doesn't matter if he tells the truth now. He also called them both.
"Zunta, Sanu, dinner's ready!"
"Okay, Cake!" answer compact Sanubari and Zunta.
After dinner, Canda held Sanubari in the dining room. He took something in his room and put it in front of Sanubari.
"What'sthis? I'm not on my birthday today, Grandpa. Why give me a gift?" Sanubari laughed at the sight of a wooden box not too big in front of him.
"Open it! What I'm about to tell you is related to that."
"All right."
Sanubari opened it. In the box there are two jet black knives that have been given a special knife holster. The two lined up. Sanubari took one and pulled it from its sheath. Totally jet black from end to end.
"This knife ...."
"You recognize her?"
"Pulse. It's like an Aifka knife. When I was ten, my mother almost went to jail for this kind of knife. He's being vilified for murder."
"Unfortunately, both of your parents were killed for that knife."
"What?" exclaiming Sanubari while pounding the table, "No way! How did Grandpa know about my parents? Even though I never told Grandpa about them."
"I'm so sorry. But that's the truth. You have to accept their departure with a chest of air."
"Impossible! Grandpa must be just making up, right?"
Sanubari wept wailing. For two years he had not seen his mother and father. Now he even heard the unpleasant sentence from Canda. Suddenly he remembered his brother who was also killed by being shot.
Come to think of it, he had always experienced bad events from birth until now. Sanubari complained of his strange life in the heart. He even protested against the Life Giver.
"Calm Sanu! There's still grandfather and I here." Zunta hugged Sanubari, trying to calm him down.
