Frans Cemetery
Vania pushes herself every day. Throughout the week, she wanted to crawl into her blanket, but she had to take care of her children; who still had no idea what was going on. She decided to hire a babysitter so she could go to the funeral. She did not want the children to cry, it would only make her cry even harder. Throughout the week, her eyes were red and swollen. He didn't prepare the speech, he knew if he did it it would be certain that he actually left. She also notices Bram crying a few times, sometimes when she sees him staring at her; he will act as if he never cries.
Everyone came to the cemetery and took their seats. The coffin was next to the open ground with a flag on it. Vania just stood next to the coffin, looking at him. There were no tears streaming down his face, he just looked at her; still agitated with everything that had happened. People came to him and apologized for his loss, he only smiled half. Frans will know that it was one of his fake smiles. She misses him so much. Everyone finally sat down and Bram came to him. He helped her sit down. It all started and Vania kept staring at the coffin. The priest called Vania to say a few words. With all her strength, Vania got up and walked to the nearby chest. He looked at everyone and he saw mercy in all their eyes.
"I've known Frans all my life .." He started. "We grew up together; we were always there for each other. He was the only person who truly understood me; my best friend. And I fell in love with her, the most amazing person ever. Being his wife has always been an honor. Not only that, he's everyone's hero, but he's mine. He was also generous, loving, considerate, and kind. He will forever be in my heart. One day Alice and Alan will understand why their father did what he did. I hope that one day my children will grow up and become great children like their father. Frans is absolutely amazing. He always puts everyone above himself. He always made sure that everyone was happy before him. He will forever be in my heart. I'll never forget it." Tears began to fall in his eyes, but he still continued his speech. "I know he's watching us. Observing his children and family. No one can replace him. He once told me that he wanted to be the best dad in the world, and he really was the best dad and will always be there for us. I know she's there now, sitting there with our two mothers, smiling at us. I'll always love you, Frans." Vania walked back to her seat. The priest spoke and the coffin was placed on the ground. Vania walks there with Bram. The two of them took a handful of earth in their hands. Vania looked at the coffin and threw the ground. Bram did the same.
"Forever and always." He whispered.
"Come on." Bram. They walk towards the children. From there, they watched as people covered the coffins with earth. When they finished, people started to leave. Vania, Bram and the children are the last to leave, also with the babysitter.
"You can go." Vania said to the nanny.
"I'm so sorry for your loss." Vania smiled half and the babysitter left. Then, they went home.
When they got home, Vania put the children to bed and then went to her room and sat on the bed. Bram then went in and sat down next to him.
"I can't believe he's really gone." Vania whispers. Bram hugged her and she started crying, tears started to fall in her eyes and for the first time she could not help herself. They sat there together, crying.
6 Years later
Valerie hummed as she finished making breakfast for her children.
"Hey Van, can you help me pair a tie?" Bram asked.
"you're 22 years old and you still don't know how to wear a tie?" Vania smiled and walked up to him. "Are you excited for your first day at work?"
"Very." She smiles.
"Your lunch is on the table, don't forget it."
"I won't forget it." She kissed him on the cheek, then kissed Alice and Alan on the cheek. "See you guys. Have a nice day at school."
"See you, Uncle Bram!" The children screamed as Zack walked out the door.
"Well, kids, time for breakfast." Vania says. After they ate, she put on their shoes and then stopped as Alice asked a question.
"Dad is at war somewhere now." Vania looked at the two of them, her eyes starting to water, but she held him back.
"Where's that?" Alan asked.
"Paradise. He was fighting there every day and watching us every day too."
"Why is he taking care of us?" Alice asked.
"To make sure we're okay."
"Will he come back?" Alan asked.
"One day you will go to your father. Now it's time to go to school." Vania took their hands and then sat them in the car. He starts driving to their school, thinking of Frans. He thinks about it every day.
They finally reach the school and Vania takes them inside. They walked to their class and he kissed them. His children ran to their friends and he watched them happy. He walked out of the class smiling.
"Well, today is a very special day." Said Alice and Alan's teacher. "Today we'll talk about our parents." After the children left, Alice and Alan stood up. "Alice, Alan, will you talk about your parents? Alice, you can talk about dad, and Alan, you can talk about your mom."
"Good." They both said. Alan went ahead first.
"My mom is the best person in the world. He loved us and kissed us every day. He gave me the best hug ever. Sometimes he's sad, but we like to make him smile. I love to see mom smile; she's so beautiful when she smiles." She smiles.
"That's great, Alan. Your turn, Alice."
"I don't know my father. Mom said she was fighting in heaven. He went to war when we were babies. Mom talks about it every day. He told us he was a great father. I believe him." Alan and Alice held hands. "I miss you, but I said we'd meet her someday."
As Vania walked to her car, she was about to think of Frans. Frans will always be in his heart. He did not pay attention to the road and hit someone.
"Oh I'm sorry." He said, calm down.
"No, it's my fault. I'm late and I don't see where I'm walking." He spoke. He looked at her smile and smiled back.
"Hi, I'm Christian." Vania looked up and smiled. He knows Frans did this. In the way the man spoke to her that it was her turn to be happy. He looked back at Christian.
"I'm Vania." She smiles.
