Taking shelter in the closed stall, Mila hugged herself as a cold wind blew through her. Looking up at the night sky above her, Mila was taken aback by the light of the lightning flash and her thunderous voice muttered horribly. Retreating a few steps, he tried to get away from the frightening sound.
Who would have thought that Mila would be trapped alone here when she came out to buy mosquito repellent. When he had left the house, the rain had not been as heavy as it was now, let alone a terrifying lightning bolt as he saw it now.
It felt like Mila was trying to act recklessly by breaking through this heavy rain, but Mila was afraid that in the middle of the road she would be hit by a lightning strike that was now unceasingly striking in the sky. Plus, the distance of his house from here quite takes about 5 minutes even though he ran fast. Worse still, the streets around it are so dark because it is dead lights.
However, if you continue to wait here, Mila does not know when the rain will stop. The longer he waits, it feels like the rain stubs instead of subsiding even more rapidly. Braving herself, Mila reached out to feel the raindrops from the edge of the shop roof.
Not for how long a flash of lightning struck not far from his hand. Screeching in fear, Mila retreated back to where she was while closing her eyes and ears, as if it would take away her fear. He cowered in fear in the corner of the shop while praying that someone was accompanying him here. At least the presence of someone will distract him from this gripping feeling.
"Are you okay, Mil?" ask her a voice not to leave her.
Mila did not care whose voice it was, but she must have helped him by appearing suddenly, like an angel descending from heaven.
Looking up at the source of the voice, Mila was astonished to see the figure she knew so well. Why of all the people who exist, must Joints that come to save him from this fear. It seems like fate is mocking him by bringing him together with someone he doesn't want to meet. Especially in this situation he is vulnerable.
"Mil, you're okay, right?" said Jendi again asked while crouching closer to him.
"I... I'm doing fine. I was just shocked by the sound of the lightning," Mila replied, managing to overcome her shock. "What are you doing here?"
"Thank God, then, I think you almost fainted" he said. "I was on my way to the patrol station, but in the middle of the road the noise surprised me. So without a second thought I ran this way. And how shocked I was to see you cowering in fear in this corner."
"Oh so."
"Yes that's it. Can you stand up?"
Holding Mila's arm carefully - as if fearing her touch would scare Mila-Joint away helped her to stand up. After the two of them stood together, the two immediately fell silent in silence, awkwardly having to speak what else.
Now that Mila was no longer alone, she was no longer as scared as she had been when she heard the thunderous roar. However, what became his fear now was being alone with Joints, without knowing what to behave like. Ignoring him is certainly not a proper action, but inviting him to chat casually in the middle of the darkness and the rain flushed incessantly this also gives the impression of being too romantic for him. It was as if they had promised to meet here to share love with each other.
Even more frightening, Mila was afraid that someone else would see her together with Joints in the midst of this darkness. It flashed through his mind to just run out through the rain in order to escape this nervousness.
"I heard you were going to the city to visit your brother who was there," said Sendi, starting a chat because he was uncomfortable with the silence between them.
Turning her head quickly at Joints who remained focused directing her gaze forward looking at the rain, Mila winked in surprise.
"Who told you?"
"I heard it from my mother. And my mother knew that from your mother. He wished I could stop you from going there."
This time Joints gaze towards him, the glint of his eyes looks so hurt.
"Is this why you've been avoiding me for the past few days? Do you feel uncomfortable by the attitude of our parents who want to match us both?"
"That's... L'm... I'm...." Mila could not answer that question, she felt very guilty for hurting Joints feelings.
"I was a fool for not realizing this and thought you were avoiding me because I made a mistake. Who would have thought that this was all because of my mother? You should have told me straight away, so I could have asked my mother not to force you to accept my feelings too much." The tone of voice of Joints sounded so hurt. "I don't know that all this time my feelings have been weighing on you. If you try to escape me by going to town to visit your brother, I can guarantee you I will never come near you again."
"No. no. No. It's not. You don't burden me at all, I... I just don't feel good about you. I'm...." Mila confusion must explain her feelings how on Joints.
"To be honest I knew all along I didn't have a chance to fill your heart, but at least I wish I could be a good friend to you" continued Jendi, ignoring listening to Mila's explanation. "I didn't think my attitude made you uncomfortable and made my mother urge you to marry me. Trust me, I didn't mean to put you in this situation."
He began to get upset because Jendi concluded all of that without listening to the explanation first. From the look on her face, Mila could see that Jendi was very surprised by her angry exclamation. However, she recovered quickly from her shock, as she resumed her sentence which was cut off by Mila earlier.
"There's nothing to explain anymore, Mil, I understand. Now I know that you feel awkward being alone with me here."
Tracking her waist, Mila glared furiously at Joints.
"No, no, and no! You know nothing, you stubborn ass!" cetus Mila.
"It seems like what Radit said was right, you changed drastically after becoming friends with Widya. Your personality is so fierce like it is," muttered Jendi, looking at Mila gawking, she looked at Mila as if she were a stranger.
"What did you say? I didn't hear you, the sound of rain drowned out your little voice," lamented Mila, bringing her ear closer to Joints.
"It's nothing, just continue what you wanted to say earlier," Joints, refusing to repeat the words.
"All right, now listen to me!" said Mila, stretch her voice so that it can be heard by Joints. "My trip to the city has nothing to do with you, I just want to see my brother and nephew there. I haven't been there in a long time. And as for my behavior avoiding you, I admit that I did so that your mother would stop urging me to accept your feelings."
So far his incarnation was listened to well by Joints. Although he could see that Joints were so hurt by his honesty. He nodded stiffly, asking Mila to go back on with her words.
"I admit I was wrong for hiding this thing. I don't know if my silence hurts you, I just don't want you to argue with your mom for standing up for me."
"You don't have to worry, I can finish it with my mother" Jendi said.
"And about your feelings weighing on me, that's not entirely true. Actually I...." Mila cleared her throat, trying to pull out her courage to express her true feelings to Joints. "Honestly, I'm glad you've liked me until now, but I don't feel good about you for never being able to return your feelings to me. Which makes me uncomfortable not because you like me, but because of the views of people every see us both. It's not fair for you to wait for something as uncertain as I am. I'm not sure when I can open my heart to others."
"Don't tell me you still like Radit?" jendi hesitated and was afraid that her guess was right.
Seeing the reaction of Mila who was jolted by his words, it was as if Jendi had just slapped him. His eyes that were bound in fear, convinced Jendi that her guess was correct.
"He's got a wife, Mil! Even his wife is now your friend, are you crazy?"
"I know! You don't have to say that, I know that very clearly" Mila said, swallowing a bitter lump in her throat. "I can't control my feelings, so I always try to avoid Radit all this time. And I hope you won't say this to Radit, me...."
"I'm not that low, Mil," between the Joints, sounding disappointed.
Sighing in relief, Mila smiled thanking Joints.
"I hope you understand that my attitude towards you has not been because I hate you, but because I don't want you to waste your time with a woman like me. You can preach better than me," Mila's smile, relieved to have conveyed her heart to Joints. "It looks like the rain has subsided a bit. Then I'll go first!"
Pulling Mila's hand, Jendi took off the raincoat she was wearing and gave it to Mila. Rejecting the raincoat loan, Mila finally gave up too after Jendi insisted on forcing her to wear her raincoat.
"I will definitely return it tomorrow" said Mila, still feeling bad to leave Joints with her raincoat.
"Go away, don't worry about me! I won't get sick from the rain like this" asked Joints, pushing up Mila's body.
Mila turned her head one last time to Joints with a look of guilt. Cuddling her head with her hands, Mila was ready to run through the rain on it. However, his steps came to a halt when he listened to Joints say something to him.
"I'll wait for you until any time."
After saying that sentence, Joints ran away leaving him first.
