"I'm sorry, I worried you like this. " Adam could not be absent from the sight of his eyes for Laura. It was unceasing that he looked at the girl intently. Laura stole her attention, because she looks different tonight.
"You should sleep and rest at home. You must be tired of going home from school straight to work." Adam looked down at his eyes for a moment.
Laura opened her voice. "Who panics when they get a call about you?" The girl tried to cover it up. His prestige was still top notch to this day.
"You don't have to lie to me." Adam smiled faintly looking at Laura. The girl was so good at eating a bowl of chicken noodles, as if she had not eaten for three days.
"I know for a fact you panicked after ...."
"I said I wasn't panicking at all." Laura kept insisting that she was okay.
Laura looked at Adam. "It's natural that if I run to the hospital, everyone will do that."
"That's not a special response. I'm just trying to be human." Laura knew that the reason might not make sense, but it was better than her silence.
Laura saw the disbelief from Adam's eyes.
"Sir Adam doesn't believe?" Laura spread out her hands, both her hands holding a spoon and fork. "Look! I'm doing fine. No panic."
There pointed to the reflection of Laura's reflection from a mirror display case not far from her. He told the girl to look at herself.
Laura was silent when she realized her appearance. It turned out that much worse than she thought, Laura would not remember tonight. Too embarrassing.
Adam smiled as he watched Laura cover her own face. The girl massaged both sides of her temple, while lightly clucking.
"Still avoiding if you don't panic?" Adam laughed a little. "Although our marriage isn't long, I've never even seen you look like this when we lived together."
Laura looked at Adam slowly.
"Belen also said that you are a perfectionist girl, who will pay attention to your appearance even though you are at home." Adam laughed again.
The man pointed a hairpin over Laura's head. "You didn't even pinch your hair properly, it was a mess."
Laura knew that. He rubbed the strands of hair that were beside his face, styling them behind the ears.
"You didn't even wear socks, but it was a cold night." Adam stared out at the chicken noodle stall. He had a reason why he invited Laura to this place, at least a bowl of chicken noodles and meatballs could warm their bodies.
"It was raining outside" said Adam.
Laura looked out the street. He had not even realized since when it had rained. His mind was too messed up this time.
"Laura?" call Adam. The girl looked at him. "Thank you."
"For brownies and for hospitals as well." Adam smiled sweetly. "I'm sorry too. The brownies are broken."
Fool about that box of fucking cookies.
Laura scratched her non-itchy neck. "To be honest I can also apologize for yesterday's incident."
The two look at each other.
"Sir Adam helped me, but I was angry." Laura did not finish her meal. That was delicious. "I should be grateful. That's what brownies mean."
Adam mangosteen. "Not to think about. I know how you felt that night."
"But Laura ...." Adam interrupted again. "Don't tell me that about your late parents, they must be sad."
Laura could not answer anything. His heart was sad, his mind was in turmoil. His life began to fall apart.
"I don't want you to regret anything afterwards" Adam said. "I'm sure you understand what I'm saying."
Laura mangosteen. "I have a lot to learn."
"I can't marry you." Adam suddenly discussed it, whereas Laura was about to scoop the chicken noodles in front of him. The girl even closed her mouth back, her appetite just gone.
Adam needed the courage to say that short sentence. He just didn't want to give any hope to Laura.
"I told Nurwa that. I'll marry him" said Adam. "I must hold my word."
Laura slurped. His smile was clearly forced.
"Sir Adam, may I ask you something?" Laura looked at him again. In silence, the girl felt pain and disappointment that could not be clearly defined.
Adam nodded. "Ask."
"What are the services of papa and mama with Mr. Adam's parents first?" ask Laura. I don't know why he's starting to wonder. "Sir Adam was willing to marry me when Mr. Adam knew our marriage would not work."
Adam smiled faintly. "Your parents saved my life, Laura." He answered steadily. "Those who restored my trust when I wanted to end my life that time."
"My parents were inmates and so am I. I was in jail before."
Laura squinted her eyes. Adam has a surprising side. "Jailed?"
