19. Papa's Debt

Knowing Laura's situation now, Adam could not bear to leave her. Laura had already warned herself to leave this house, leaving her alone. But Adam still had heart and compassion. He also did not want anything bad to happen to Laura.

The sound of knocking on the door broke the silence. Adam did not sit down, choosing to open the door immediately.

His guests are two large foreign men with leather jackets similar to market thugs.

"Can I help you?" Adam scrutinized the two men in front of him, trying to recognize the item the times they had met.

"I heard that Mr. Faishal and Mrs Desi have died" he said in a rude tone.

Adam mustard. His eagle eyes pointed at the wreath pasted behind a large spruce tree.

"This house must be vacated immediately!" The man was directly at the core of the conversation.

Adam clearly did not understand. It is impossible if he complies like a slave.

"Explain what's going on?" Adam tried to be wise, meek. "As you know, Mr. Faishal and Mrs Desi have just passed away. The situation is still shrouded in grief, I hope you come to say your condolences."

"They want to collect the debt" said Laura standing behind Adam.

Adam flinched, Laura surprised him.

Laura ignored Adam. He stood by Adam's side and looked at the two men in front of him. "I don't know what the debt is and what it's for." Laura is indifferent. "However, I can't pay for it."

"We don't care if you can pay or not!" The thug shouted in front of Laura. "We're just following our boss' orders!"

Laura grinned thinly. "Then go to mama's grave and tagih in front of her tombstone."

Adam's eyebrows shot up as Laura turned around just like that. From the look on her face, Laura was indifferent and did not want to care.

"You have to pay!" It was almost the thug's hand that pulled Laura's body. Fortunately, Adam reacted in time.

"Don't touch my wife!" Adam kept his position. "You'll deal with me!"

Hearing Adam's clumsy way of defending him, Laura bets that Adam will back down in one hit.

"You're her husband?" One of the men in front of Adam pulled his collar. "Then pay up!"

Laura turned her head when Adam 'captured' the man. He smirked faintly. "Hitting him to death won't give you your money back" Laura said.

Laura walked away after her sentence was finished.

The thug was forced to let Adam off violently. They're still sane, Laura has a point.

"We'll wait until next week!" he looked down at Adam's face. "If you can't pay, we'll confiscate the house!"

But Adam could not answer, the two strangers walked out from before him.

Adam chased after Laura who was about to open a door in a corner of the house, it seemed like it was a warehouse.

"Laura, wait a minute!" Adam pulled his hand.

Laura did not express much, her heart was empty and her mind was empty. Too many came today.

"Do you know everything?" adam asked, he refused to talk much. "About your father's and your mama's debts."

Laura pulled the corner of her lips, a meaningless smile she gave to answer Adam.

"If you know why you've been quiet all this time?" Adam was not satisfied with Laura's silence. "Why not try to discuss ...."

"The forest will not be paid off just by selling this house!" ketus Laura suddenly. He looked at Adam with anger. "Then what do you want me to do?"

Adam let go of the hand slowly. "I'm sorry."

"Papa was very ill and needed to be hospitalized for months," Laura said. "Without me knowing, the company's state is in turmoil."

"Papa won't tell me that, Mr. Adam!" Laura was getting upset with herself. "Mama is too."

Laura accidentally shed tears. Only then did he speak through his body language that everything was not okay.

Adam understands Laura's wounds.

"And finally mama committed suicide" concluded Laura as she wiped her tears. His tone trembled violently.

Adam wanted to hug her, but Laura must have slapped him. She's a strong-ass girl who obviously won't be strong enough to go through everything on her own.

Laura breathed a heavy sigh. "I won't fight for anything anymore, Mr. Adam!"

"I'm not leaving this house and I'm staying here!" Laura put her feet in annoyance. "I'll let them keep coming and eventually kill me."

Adam shook his head. "We sell this house" said Adam suddenly. "I'll think about it."

Laura frowned. "Who do you think you are?"

"Your husband" Adam replied firmly, as if proud. "I know you won't admit it, Laura."

Adam approached. "I'm the only guy you can count on, right?"

Yes, Laura would never admit it.

"I told you, I won't leave you even if you kick me out" he added. Whether this worked or not, Adam wanted to comfort Laura.

Laura pushed Adam's body. "I've made it" said Laura suddenly.

Adam squinted his eyes. "Make what?" tanyakanya.

"When in Malaysia" Laura replied with great emphasis. The two looked at each other, Adam's heart was incredible.

"I made a divorce filing" Laura said firmly.

Adam shakes. "Laura, please."

"Why are you begging me?" Laura's getting sick. "You can be free! You can go back to Nurwa or whoever it is!"

Adam looked down.

"You just sign everything. No need to be confused, I will face myself!" ketus Laura then.

Adam looked at her again. "Then what about your son?"

"I told you not to worry!" Laura nodded again. "I can take care of myself!"

Adam could not shake Laura's stance. He was stubborn, selfish, and reckless. Thankfully, Laura did not catch up with Desi when she left Laura earlier.

"I won't hold you back and vice versa!" Laura nodded again. "You can be happy in your own way!"

"Laura, I hope you can think of that decision." Adam continued to persuade Laura. He thinks that he is an adult, he should not be carried away by emotions.

"I—"

"I don't care about you" Adam suddenly said. "You want to go anywhere with anyone, I don't care."

Laura froze in place. Adam's eyes were filled with seriousness, blocking all his activity.

"At least if you're not pregnant" Adam said. "I'm responsible for the pregnancy. That's my promise to your late father."

Laura smiled in anguish. "I'll drop it."

"You're ignorant!" Adam knitted his brows. "You want to kill an innocent baby?"

"I will divorce you!" yelled Laura loudly. "I'm steady!"

Adam looked at Laura. The anger that the girl was releasing reached her heart. Adam surrender.

"alright. We're divorced." Adam resolved the debate.
