The Horizon Boundaries

The Horizon Boundaries
Ch.40 Escape

Ken picked up his sleeping girl, took her to the guest bedroom. Slowly put it on the bed. Pulling the blanket, enveloping the girl. Ken kissed her forehead.

"Beautiful dream, Sa," he murmured softly. His hand stroked the girl's hair gently. Phone's vibrating. He rushed out of the room.

Maisa opened her eyes. He saw a strange sight. The ceiling of the room is white with the lights on. Mint colored room wall combined yellow color. Two bedroom windows above the head of the bed.

This isn't his room. His last memory was sitting alone with Ken. How long he slept. The tail of his eyes saw his watch showing at five in the afternoon.

"Dad! I can sleep in people's houses."

Maisa rushes to get up, revealing the blanket. He ran out of the room. Found Ken sitting on the living room couch, receiving a call from someone. His face looks stiff. Looks like something's going on.

"No need to rush. I don't want to surprise him."

Ken paused for a moment to listen to someone from across the phone.

"I don't want a story. But it's not time yet. Because of the fucking brother's carelessly leaking secrets." Ken sounded grumbling. He hung up on her.

Maisa approached the man. Ken looked back to feel the presence of someone behind him.

"Oh... You up, Sa?" Said slowly.

The girl sitting before him revealed a worried hue. "Is there a problem, Ka?"

Ken moved to sit beside him. Put his right hand on the girl's shoulder. Pulls him closer to his body.

"You worried?" Ken asked back with a smile on his lips.

The girl beside him nodded slowly. Looked at Ken's eyes. Both eyebrows are tied. Ken's index finger pressed against his forehead.

"Don't worry. It's okay, co."

His left hand stroked the girl's cheek. The longer his face drew closer to Maisa's. His heart is beating fast. The girl closed her eyes. Yoke! Both foreheads touch.

"I'll take you home, yuk."

Maisa hurried to her feet, nodding softly. There was a bit of disappointment nothing happened. Waitaminute! Why does it seem like he expects something to happen. He has thrown away his ridiculous thoughts.

"Oh yes, yuk. It was already afternoon," he laughed awkwardly.

...****...

Maisa chews popcorn slowly. His eyes looked at the television screen before him, but his mind floated somewhere. Some popcorn seeds fell to the floor. His lips occasionally smile. Half her hair was short tied up to form a small bun, a little messy.

Kio poked his face with a pillow. He took it and threw it away. The pillow floated on the face of Mr. Chandra who was drinking his hangant tea. There was a sound of broken stuff. The tea cups were crushed.

"She's!" Mr. Chandra cried with a thunderous voice.

The girl was shocked. He rushed to his father. "Sorry, Pa. Papa wasn't hurt, was he? Papa's hand didn't blister, did it."

Maisa grabbed Chandra's hand, no trace of hot water. His gaze shifted at his feet, nor was there. Mr. Chandra immediately brushed off his hand, went to change his clothes.

Bi Tari came to help Maisa clean up the shards of the tea cup. He picked up carefully. Bi Tari threw it away and brought the tea-stained pillow behind. Maisa sat back in her chair.

"Based on a stupid girl," Kio sneered at her.

The girl did not return her scorn. He does not deny this is his fault already stupefied itself. Mr. Chandra came back after changing clothes.

"I'm sorry Maisa, Pa. Papa, is it okay?"

"Yes!" Mr. Chandra replied briefly.

"Thank God!" Maisa breathed a sigh of relief, her father was unharmed.

“Next week hagi your twenty-third birthday. Papa wants to celebrate as much as last year" Chandra told Kio, who was sitting not far from his side.

“Cause, Pa. I already have my own plans,” Kio said with a smile, giving his thumbs up.

Maisa's permission to go up to her room. Kio noticed there were blood spots on the floor, leading to the second floor. You stupid girl.

Maisa felt pain in her leg. There was a small wound on his foot. It looks like he was injured while cleaning the cup fragments earlier. His steps limped into the bathroom, washing his wounds with water.

Upon returning to the room, he saw Kio standing in front of the door. There's a box of P3K gear in his hand.

Maisa grimaced softly as Kio rubbed the alcohol on her leg. His eyebrows cringed. Both of them sat on the floor with fur carpets. Patently, Kio applied the wound ointment and glued the wound plaster.

"Thank you, Ka."

"Hm...."

Kio cleaned up the P3K box and rushed out. Maisa put her body on the bed.

“Next week Ka Kio birthday. What a gift to give, huh? I don't know what his favorite is,” he said muttering to himself.

Sa, I'm asking for help. It matters! I'll pick you up, yeah. I'll explain!

Ken immediately disconnected the connection. Maisa looked at her phone with a astonished face. What's up with him. Ken sounded panicked.

He was getting ready with his casual clothes. Short-sleeved white shirts combined with navy plaid motif shirts, not to miss jeans and white sneaker. Her hair is tied back with braids on the right.

"Where else are you going?" Kio who was sitting in the living room turned his head towards him.

Maisa pointed towards the door of the house, "Oh... Just get out for a minute."

"With legs like that?"

Maisa noticed her right leg wrapped in a bandage wearing a sneaker. "Just for a minute."

Kio said nothing more. Maisa rushed to the terrace with slightly hobbled steps.

Ken came by his car. He came down to the girl.

"What's up, Ka? It seems urgent."

"Let's run away for a second?"

"Huh?" Maisa tilted her head. This time Ken's words were absurd. Was he taking the wrong medication.

Ken took his hand to the car. He drove his car into the highway. Maisa glanced back through the rearview mirror. There were two black cars following them since coming out of the compound.

"Ka! Looks like someone's following us."

"I know!"

Ken drove up the speed of his car. The car in the back also increases speed.

"Ka Ken didn't do anything bad, did he?"

"Yes, it's not."

Ken overtook several vehicles in front of him. The sound of a car tire whiz past a sharp bend out of Jakarta. Ken glanced at the rearview mirror. The two cars behind him were nowhere to be seen.

Maisa's face paled. He hugged his arm tightly, his back trembling. Cold sweat drenched his clothes. His stomach was nauseous as it was stirred, his head felt dizzy.

A flash of accident fifteen years ago is reflected back in his memory. Blood soaked the road. People were screaming around him. A woman covered in blood with half-open eyes stared at him. Maisa closed her eyes.

Ken looked towards the girl. Like something's wrong. He pulled his car over. Touching Maisa's shoulder slowly. The girl looked scared. Tears flowed down his cheeks.

"Sorry, Sa. I didn't mean to scare you." Ken hugged her tightly. His hand rubbed his head. His heart was wounded seeing the girl in pain. He muttered an apology a few times while hugging her.

"Sorry, Ka. I've always troubled you," Maisa said slowly.

"It's okay, Sa. I'm the one who's sorry for scaring you."

Silence is created between the two. Day starts at dusk. Street lights and buildings started to light up. The occasional car light shines in their direction. Ken started driving his car, stopped by a five-star hotel.

"Why are we stopping here, Ka?"

"We'll spend the night here. Don't worry I'll book two rooms."

Maisa felt her legs ache as she got down from the car. He refrained from grimacing in pain and walking as usual.

"Your leg is hurt, Sa?"

Maisa gasped in surprise. Ken realized. He crouched in front of her.

"Let's ride. I'll carry you."

Maisa's face blushed red instantly. Some hotel guests noticed them. There was no reaction from the girl. He's still sculpting.

"Or will I carry you in front?" Ken again.

Ughhhh! Inevitably Maisa went up to his back. He covered his reddened face behind Ken's wide back.

"Sa, are you scared if I drive too fast?" Ken asked at dinner at the hotel restaurant.

Maisa nodded slowly. His hands are still trembling. Ken held it tightly. Her warm smile made the girl calm down.

"If you can know. Why, Sa?"

The girl's lips gaped, then closed again. "I'll tell you when the time is right, Ka."

Ken smiled, "All right. I won't force you to tell a story. It's just this to remind me not to speed anymore."
