52. The vain hope

A white room with a disinfectant scent that oozed into the place Kyle was visiting today. He saw someone lying there with a pale face and a drip

attached to the back of the hand.

"How are you doing?" ask Kyle.

"This way."

Kyle took a deep breath. "What did the doctor say? You're healing, right?" ask again.

"Yes, I could have recovered if I had a suitable kidney graft."

"What's here is nothing-"

And Kyle's words were interrupted just like that.

"Not until now has anyone been able to actually donate that kidney to me. There are some obstacles, ranging from mismatched blood types and other things."

Kyle stared at the woman who was the patient there. The woman is none other than her cousin, Stevi. In fact, when Stevi was pregnant a few months ago, his condition was still fine, but I don't know what happened suddenly now the woman dropped and was declared to have kidney damage.

"I will help you as much as I can" Kyle said sincerely.

"No need, Kyle. You've helped me a lot. Aunty Eve also helped me to look after Maura for a while. You guys have a lot to do when my own mother doesn't seem to care about our situation."

Gracia-Shevi's mother-is upset with her daughter because Stevi failed to marry Gladwin's offspring. Gracia is also disappointed that it turns out that the child Stevi was born with was not really Shawn's child. "Don't talk like that, after all you're our family" Kyle said. "And sorry, because of my busyness I can only visit you now," he continued with a gloating face.

Stevi nodded, she had already heard from Kyle's mother if this man had deliberately busied himself to forget about Elara who had avoided her from the beginning. Precisely since Kyle's proposal was rejected by the woman.

Maybe even, Kyle does not know if now Elara and Shane are married and become a couple. Stevi could not tell him.

Stevi herself learned about the wedding news because of a visit to Shane's office a month ago. At first, he intended to ask the man for help on his medical expenses. But there Stevi did not find Shane and fortunately she even heard rumors that Shane was going to Indonesia to marry Elara.

From there, Stevi is determined to meet Shane again. He was in front of the man a week ago. At that time, Stevi was no longer interested in being honest and told about her illness to Shane. He actually quibbled by saying that Maura was sick, even though the cost he asked for was for his own treatment.

Stevi is unlikely to ask Shane for a fee when the man is no longer single, but the husband of the person. At the very least, the illness he suffered made him not interested in pursuing Shane anymore. I don't know, now Stevi just feels bland. Perhaps if he returned to health, he would be interested in seizing Shane from Elara - by any means. But now, Stevi's attention is only his own health.

Stevi quits her thoughts on Shane and Elara's marriage, and refocuses on Kyle before her.

"It's okay, Kyle. You alone, how are you?" ask Stevi at last.

"I'm not okay" admits Kyle. "I'm still looking for Elara's whereabouts until now, because I made a deal with Shane that if I had met Elara first then she would have given up. But until now I haven't found it."

There was a hint of disappointment in Kyle and Stevi's words clearly hearing it. Inwardly, Stevi cursed herself to be honest with Kyle about Shane and Elara's marriage. In fact, his cousin thought that Elara was still on her run and had not been found by him or Shane.

"Kyle, sorry before. Have you ever known Shane and the Gladwin family?"

"Why are you even asking? I think you know better than I do" Kyle said.

"What do you really want to say, Stevi?" Kyle looked at Stevi with a frowning forehead.

"You think that Shane will let you find Elara first? That's impossible, Kyle!"

Kyle did not respond to any of his cousin's presuppositions. He knows Stevi knows Shane better than he does. The man seemed to digest Stevi's remarks in his silence.

"Don't be fooled by the deal Kyle made." Stevi gave a faint smile. "Because you're gonna get eaten up by that deal. Looking from Shane's background, he must have discovered Elara's whereabouts earlier than you. And do you think once he finds her he'll just shut up?" continued emphasizing. Although Stevi's voice sounded weak, but Kyle could understand if his cousin's words were not playing games.

"Thus ... Shane found Elara?" kyle's murmured drew a conclusion. True, there's no way Shane will let her find Elara first and then take the woman off for her. That's an impossibility.

Stevi nodded in her position. "I'm sorry, Kyle. I only found out about it a week ago, too. They've been married for almost a month."

And Stevi's last words managed to make Kyle flinch with wide eyes.

"Married you say?"

Stevi. Although at first he could not bear to tell the truth to Kyle, but inevitably he had to say it also considering if Kyle still hopes to be the man who first found Elara than Shane. Stevi just did not want the great expectations that existed in Kyle actually made him feel a great disappointment as well.

And yes, in the end the disappointment was indeed really felt Kyle after knowing all this. Stevi knew it was from Kyle's facial features now, but she was relieved to finally be able to tell Kyle about this.

"I can't really tell you this reality, Kyle. But I'd rather not have the heart if you lived in a hope and wishful thinking that you obviously would never achieve."

What disappointed Kyle the most was that Elara did not tell him about such a big thing. About the woman's marriage to Shane. Does he really mean nothing to Elara? Even their good relationship was considered Elara as what? Was it just because he had proposed to the girl that Elara actually made a high wall for their friendship?

"You ... Are you okay, Kyle? Sorry if my words upset you."

Kyle commented a bitter smile. "It's okay, Stev. It's not your fault. I should be grateful to you because the news from you made me realize that my search has been in vain and must be stopped here," he said trying hard.

"I know how you feel, Kyle. I know what it's like when the person who should have chosen you chose someone else. Don't we feel the same way?" stevi's response later.

Kyle smiled smirkily. Stevi's right, they're lucky now.

"What's your next plan, Kyle?" ask Stevi again.

"Eitherway. I don't have anything to go after anymore. Maybe I will heal for some time to calm my feelings," Kyle said.

"Yes, that's good."

"You alone?"

"Me?" Stevi pointed at her own face, and Kyle nodded before her.

"I want to focus on my recovery first, Kyle. If later I find an opportunity then I won't waste it" he said with a meaningful smile.
