Title: Summer Girl

_________________________

'But you’ll always be my golden boy

And I’m the summer girl that you enjoy

Some melodies are best left undone

I feel the times pass away

But in my songs you’ll always stay

I don’t need you to tell me that I’m the one

You never know that I was the one.'

The One, Vanessa C.

A car passed through the road one lane against the background of a very beautiful beach. Stork birds fly through the sun so hot. From inside the car, a woman looks out the window. He smiled slightly, showing his impatient expression of being able to play around on that beach. Like a very long wait, the time finally came for him to be here, a place he always visited with his family. Only during summer holidays.

They stopped in front of a simple house that was right facing the beach. The owner of the house came out enthusiastically to welcome their annual guest.

'Finally arrived too, Auntie had been waiting from earlier.'

'Hehe.. Aunt Lena, how are you?'

'Very good, Lisa. Especially after your arrival.' Said Aunt Lena while helping to lift the bags she took from the trunk of the car.

'Where's Ronald?' Asked the middle-aged woman who was very similar to Aunt Lena.

'He said he wanted to run a beach volleyball race that would be held in a few days. She's one of his role models.' Aunt Lena exhaled. 'He sends his greetings, cannot welcome your arrival.'

'Oh, so. It's okay.' The two of them walked into the house. 'Oh yes, Lisa, please bring Robby's bag, yes!'

'Yes, Ma!'

Lisa, who was still near the car, walked straight to the trunk. But, by the way, where is his sister. Lisa looked around. His gaze stopped after he managed to find who he was looking for. His sister was with someone. A man he knew very well. He was showing freestyle with the ball reflected off using the back of his foot. The man stopped his movements suddenly after he realized Lisa was staring at him. Lisa smiled as she waved a little.

'Tomorrow big brother show me again yes, another move.' Whisper the man while rubbing the hair of the little boy who was beside him. The boy nodded in spirit. Then he ran into the house.

Lisa directed her gaze to follow the direction where her only sister was running. Then looked back at the man who was the same age as him, who was not far in front of him. They both smile.

'It felt so long. But nothing seems to have changed with you, yeah.'

'Tell time? I'm getting higher, you know. And you, still like to play ball?'

'yes. I've been very serious about this field.' The man stared at the ball he was holding. 'Don't be surprised if later you see me become a professional soccer player on tv.'

'Haha.. I will always support you.' Smilingly. Lisa looked down for a moment. Something he wanted to ask. Questions that always dwell in his mind. Have you been waiting for me all this time, Aldy?

'I'm glad you're back here.'

Lisa was silent for a moment. 'Really?' Lisa was so happy to hear that. Very glad. 'me too..'

'Lisa!'s!!' I heard screaming from inside the house.

Lisa rolled her eyes. 'Yes, Ma! Just moment.'

Aldy's waking up. 'Well, tomorrow I'll be here again.'

'alright.'

'Bye, Lisa!' Aldy ran off the porch of Aunt Lena's house.

'Bye..'

Lisa went inside. My mom was busy getting things out of her suitcase.

'No, Mama brought most of her stuff, anyway. We won't be here long, Ma.'

'Here you go, let's help Mama, quick.'

Lisa brought several piles of clothes into the room that will be occupied by Mama and Papa. Then he opens the suitcase containing his clothes. But, he closed it again. He decided to put his clothes in his room.

'My room is upstairs, right?'

'Yes, baby.'

Lisa lifted her suitcase up, then went into the room. The room is not very big, but very comfortable. Especially with the view out the window that directly leads to the sea. Very quiet. Lisa took out her clothes one by one, then put them in the closet.

When he finished, he put his body on the bed. He breathed out slowly. Smiling satisfied. He remembered his meeting with Aldy earlier. It feels great to be able to let go of longing that has been held back for a long time.

Then I heard her voice calling her to dinner.

'Who was that?' Mom asked Lisa. '..who sits in front of the terrace with you?'

Lisa swallowed her food, then answered. 'That's Aldy, Ma.'

'He used to play here a lot, right, when you forgot?' Aunt Lena chimed.

'Oh, Aldy. I barely recognized him. He's grown up, yeah.'

'The son of Jonathan's family, right? I heard he's very talented.'

'Yes, Pa. Aldy's brother is playing ball. He showed his great movements to Robby' said Robby while chewing his food. 'Great.'

Lisa just smiled. Don't know why, it feels great that his family also knows Aldy close.

'I told you, I'm going to your house today.'

'But suddenly I want to visit here.'

Aldy smiled obliquely. 'Yes already, let's go in.'

'Sepi. There's no one?' Lisa looked around. The tiny house looks so quiet.

'yes. Everything out. I was also just about to come out to visit you, but you have already come first.'

Aldy drove Lisa into the living room. Aldy's house is much closer to the beach. So, by sitting in the middle room like this alone, a gentle breeze had already accompanied. Much more peaceful than the room Lisa occupied. Maybe that's why he wanted to come here.

'You remember this?' Aldy took one of the tapes and showed it to Lisa.

Ahh, my gift tapes. 'of course. Hows it? You likeyour?'

'There's one song that's my favorite.' Aldy put the tape on tape, then played the song he intended.

Two of us, The Beatles. Lisa thought for a moment. 'Why do you like it?'

'… You and me Sunday driving, not arriving, on our way back home ..' Aldy sang the song, following the beat sung by Paul McCartney. 'I like the lyrics.'

'What is. ehmm.' Lisa did not continue her sentence. 'I mean, what else do you like?' Lisa breathed a sigh of relief. He should not have asked what he was thinking the first time. What do you think of when you hear that song? Are you thinking of me? What a stupid question.

'Actually I like everything. But this song is what I like the most.'

Lisa and Aldy kept chatting, telling each other about their lives, telling stories of their childhoods, from their first meeting to the present.

'Aldy, to the beach, yuk.' While setting his eyes on the beach.

'Udah afternoon.'

'It's okay. Look at the sunset as cool.' Lisa looked at Aldy with a hopeful smile.

They walk beside the beach. So quiet. The chirping of birds and the swirling of the ocean waves accompanied them. The sun is setting soon. They kept walking slowly leaving their footprints in the sand.

Lisa was beginning to understand how she felt. He was old enough to understand that feeling. But what she did not understand was, how the man beside her felt towards her. He asked, very much wanted to.

'Aldy.'

'Yes, Lisa?'

'You know, right? This year I'm going to university.' Lisa paused for a moment to gather the words. 'Maybe this will be my last summer here.'

Aldy stopped his footsteps. He could not cover up that surprised expression of his. He looked at Lisa deeply. Then he threw his eyes away to look at the end of the sea.

What the hell does that mean? Is he sad? Or what? Say something, Aldy!

'I'm going to college at a university in Loudylage. So, I will also move to the area. Not living with my parents anymore.'

Silence enveloped them. Aldy who turned his back to Lisa was silent.

'Aldy?' Pleases..

'Loudylage is a beautiful city. My cousin went on vacation there. He said Loudylage wasn't as hot here. And, very pleasant, he said.'

Lisa tried to digest the speech from the man. Not that, not that kind of speech that Lisa expected her to hear from Aldy. Is that all you can say?

Lisa down. He could not hold back the dam of tears that had suddenly come out of his two eyeballs. He doesn't understand. Or maybe he expects too much of that guy.

'Get yourself all right, yeah' Aldy turned his body around. He was surprised to see the woman in front of him crying. 'Lisa's.. Why?'

If you can't say you like me, say you don't want me to leave. Say you don't want us to part and stay together forever. Or possibly..

Aldy hugged Lisa. And rubbed the woman's back slowly. They were unaware of the presence of a very beautiful sunset that afternoon.

..you were too scared that you couldn't tell me.
