There were two people I wanted to avoid for these few weeks but one of those two people had already appeared before me long before I could prepare. It is the same as when I meet a new person, I will never be able to finish preparing myself because that new person will appear suddenly. Is the world no longer exciting if people already know who they are going to meet?
Mom looked at me for a moment and gave me a smile before finally getting out of the car with Stephanie and Caroline, leaving me alone with the driver who was confused because I didn't get out of the car. I looked out the glass and still found Ken standing next to the car. There was still Arthur before but as soon as the mother got out of the car, Arthur went with the mother into the house.
"Zeta is coming out. Sorry to confuse Uncle," I said as soon as the driver tried to open the conversation.
"No, Miss.”
“Can I ask something to Miss?” tanyanya doubt.
“Sure, what is Uncle?”
“I beg Miss stop calling me ‘paman’. Call me according to my work, Miss."
The same words that Uncle Stephan spoke when I first called him 'uncle'. Unlike Uncle Stephan who showed a little happiness when I called him with 'uncle', the grandfather's family driver showed more discomfort because of my call. I can't force her to accept this call like I did to uncle.
"good. Thank you for driving well" I said as I opened the car door.
"So don't want to see me?" ken asked as soon as my head stuck out the car door.
"Very unwilling to meet you," I replied as I received Ken's hand.
"Tante suddenly called me and asked me to come to Wales. I thought something bad happened to you but I think you're okay."
"It looks like I told the chef in this house to cook your favorite meal" I said as we passed through the hallway.
"Because I'm going to be Aunt's son."
I fell silent as soon as I heard the sentence that just came out of Ken's mouth. Now I really want to know how much regret he feels. I really want to know.
"Ken?" calling me made Ken turn his head straight at me, it seemed like he didn't realize that I had been silent for long enough to see his confused face so as to not find me right next to him.
"When did you stop?" tanyanya approached me.
"If in the future I suddenly stop like this, what will you do?"
"I will run towards you and walk beside you, accompanying you. Like what I'm doing right now."
"Even if it hurt me?"
"Then I'll walk behind you until you can't see me."
"..."
"I don't want to regret it a second time, Zeta. Even if I can't be next to you it doesn't matter to me as long as I can protect you. I really don't want to feel back that regret, that regret that almost changed my whole life."
"Wahh, is that really the Ken we know?!"
Ken and I immediately turned to the source of the voice only to see the two twin sisters and Arthur looking at us with a mocking look, more precisely mocking Ken. Arthur walked up to us and immediately grabbed Ken, taking him away from me. I know it's not easy for Arthur to reopen his heart to Ken after what Ken did to me. I am thankful that he tried it. I hope, William will do the same, open his heart again.
Stephanie pinched my cheek softly, making me turn my eyes to her. She smiled and immediately grabbed my hand, followed by Caroline of course. We walked to the dining room. Sure enough, the three men came looking for me and Ken because grandpa was nagging about dinner. On the first day I came to this house, I was quite surprised to see how the grandfather who was very punctual for dinner and the grandfather would not start eating before all the family members were present, something that is quite annoying for those who are hungry but also something very ethical especially considering grandfather as the oldest member of this house who can anytime start his bribe.
The five of us immediately sat down as soon as we reached the dining room to see the grandfather who had already given a frightening look. There's been plenty of food, mostly Arthur and Ken's favorite. Mother's families always provide their guests' favorite food. Yesterday, the dinner table was Stephanie and Caroline's favorite meal.
"I don't know if Grandpa built a tree house."
Arthur opened the conversation as soon as the dessert was served. We were all waiting for Grandpa's reply who was busy staring at Eton Mess, a dessert filled with a mixture of strawberries, meringues, and cream.
"Honey, Arthur opened the conversation," said the grandmother after the grandfather just fell silent staring at the eton mess that he did not even touch.
"Your mother made it, Grandfather protected her.”
Something must have happened during my visit to Ms. Jasmine's sister's care. Not usually grandfather shows his serious side like this. I was afraid of him even when he was joking.
"Which one of you thinks makes and protects something that plays the most part in someone's life?"
I wouldn't consider the question Grandfather asked right now just a normal question. There was something behind the question, something related to grandfather's current mood. I looked at Arthur, telling him to answer Grandpa's question. Arthur scrunched his forehead before finally giving a face that belonged to me as I continued to give him a pushy look.
"both important. If there is no one to protect, there will be no one to protect. Perhaps from this statement, making can be said to be the most instrumental but without protecting then making will only be in vain. Making things doable for anyone and at any time but protecting cannot be done by everyone" Arthur replied after enough thought.
"Where would you choose between a father who made a family or a mother who protected the family?"
"Darling?!" call grandma along with mom.
Yep. Something really happened. And seeing how grandfather ignored the call of mother and grandmother, it is certain something big has happened.
"Your father sent you a divorce warrant."
Clangs.
"Mother??" I shouted as I approached where my mother was sitting.
"Let Grandma go" said the grandmother, releasing my hand from her arm and bringing her into the room, leaving the room increasingly quiet and cold.
"Arthur will confirm the truth of what Grandpa just said" Arthur said as he walked out of the dining room.
"Can't you just make sure your mom's gonna be okay?"
Grandfather's question made Arthur's angry steps stop. Arthur immediately turned to grandfather who was now also looking at him with a blank look, the gaze of someone who was already very tired. Or the gaze of a desperate father protects the happiness of his son.
"Steph, Carol, Ken, can you go to the room first?" my door made the three of them immediately move from their seats.
"Father is not likely to send a divorce letter to the mother" Arthur said in a trembling voice.
I immediately walked up to Arthur, preventing him from venting his emotions. Arthur did start to hate father but that does not mean all the trust that Arthur has to father could just disappear. Dad once said he would never divorce his mother no matter what and Arthur would continue to believe that. And I trust my father for that too.
"If your father can play behind your mother until you give birth to 2 children, then why can't your father give you a divorce?"
"Grandfather..," call me slowly.
Wait, the fact that grandfather knows that not only does father have 1 child from another woman does it also mean that mother already knows everything?
"Grandpa just wants Grandpa's daughter to be happy. Grandfather obey everything your mother wants but what is this?!! Isn't that enough for us? Wouldn't it be by cutting off the cause of this misfortune that things would return to normal?"
Grandfather stood up from where he sat and threw the divorce papers on the dining table. Arthur tried to walk over to retrieve the document. I tried to block him but he immediately shook his head and asked me to pull over. Arthur took the document from the table and opened it.
"Sister Arthur," called me as soon as he saw the change in his face. The face of trust that he had previously shown turned into a face full of anger, anger that he had shown for himself for having trusted father. Arthur squeezed the paper in his hand and directly threw it.
"Sister Arthur!!" call me as soon as Arthur steps away.
"Pursue your brother."
"Pardon us" I said before following Arthur.
I ran after Arthur who was somehow already in the parking lot. Now all he had in mind was to make sure that dad actually sent the divorce papers to mom. He wants to go back to London soon. Without the need to return to London, my father will certainly follow directly to Wales when he heard about this divorce letter if the father did not send it.
"Sister!!!!" I shouted trying to stop the car that started walking out of the parking lot.
"Zeta!! You crazy?!!!" arthur yelled furiously as I got out of the car as I was standing right at the exit.
"So don't believe me, do you?"
"..."
"What you're doing right now shows that you don't trust your father anymore."
"And you still believe in me?!"
"I believe you'll never want a farewell."
"As Grandpa said, what you're doing already shows that you want to be separated from your mother."
"But Big Brother still believes in me."
"..."
"Zeta beg you this time, don't act rashly, sister."
I hugged Arthur. Arthur didn't return my embrace because of the anger he felt and I couldn't force him to take that anger away either. I could only prevent that anger from growing by hugging her.
