Chapter 23: The Slander

"Neng Layla, here's the warm milk." Mbok Darmi put a glass on the table, for a moment Mbok Darmi was silent to see Layla who sat daydreaming in front of his bedroom window.

"Since Father and Mother were not there, Neng Layla never left the house." Mbok Darmi walked up to Layla who was looking out the window with a blank look.

Layla sighed deeply, then turned her head towards Mbok Darmi who was standing beside her. "I don't want to go where Mbok is" Layla replied smilingly staring at Mbok Darmi.

"Alright Neng, if you need something Mbok is in the kitchen." After speaking Mbok Darmi twisted his body to move his legs out of the room. Layla stared blankly out the window. A light breeze coming in through the window door greeted Layla's soft pale skin, as if it was a touch of Kei's hand and gave her peace of mind as the wind touched her skin, Layla smiled to herself.

Meanwhile Mbok Darmi and Mang Usman were watching Layla from the direction of Layla's open door. They looked at Layla who was sad every day like that.

"What should we do, sir?" mbok Darmi asked her husband Mang Usman.

Mang Usman shook his head, turning towards Mbok Darmi. "I don't know Mom, I'm also worried about Neng Layla's situation." Mang Usman turned his eyes back to Layla.

"How about we just call Den Rai?" Tanya Mbok Darmi gives a suggestion.

"Good idea anyway Bu, but fear later even bother Den Rai" replied Mang Usman turned towards Mbok Darmi for a moment. Then Mang Usman pulled Mbok Darmi's hand away from Layla's room.

"What's up, sir?" asked Mbok Darmi frowned looking at Mang Usman.

Mang Usman put a finger on his own lips while looking towards Mbok Darmi for a moment. Then walk to the door of the house. Mbok Darmi whose hearing is a little less clear frowned did not understand what Mang Usman meant, but Mbok Darmi still followed what Mang Usman did.

"You hear? there's a commotion in our yard, ma'am." Mang Usman slightly opened the door and peered outside the courtyard through the gap of the door of the house.

"I don't know Mom, but I saw Mr. Yuda among the neighboring crowd" Usman replied sliding Mbok Darmi's body so as not to block the door. Mang Usman brought his ears out the door to listen to the conversation of Judah and the neighbors who numbered about fifteen people.

"How Sir? what are they talking about?" asked Mbok Darmi frowned looking at the back of Mang Usman who was listening from inside.

When Mang Usman returned, he closed the door and said. "Gawat Bu" said Mang Usman while holding his own chest, his eyes widened looking at Mbok Darmi.

"What's up, sir?" Mbok Darmi pulled Mang Usman's hand to shift Mang Usman's body away from the door.

"Don't Ma."

"What's up, sir? don't make me afraid of you, sir."

"Pak Yuda is provoking the citizens to expel Neng Layla Bu." Mang Usman turned back and locked the door.

"What Sir?" Mbok Darmi pulls Mang Usman's arm to me away from the door and pulls him to get inside the house.

"Hurry and call Den Rai, ma'am."

Mbok Darmi nodded his head, hurriedly approaching the table and dialing Raiden's home phone number.

"Dukkk Dukk!!"

Just now Mbok Darmi was about to call, heard the sound of the door in the kick of people from outside. Mbok Darmi put the phone home and immediately approached Mang Usman who shivered in fear. "How is this, sir?"

"I don't know Mom"

"The army! Usman! out y'all!" The sound of people screaming from outside. Making Mbok Darmi and Mang Usman scared.

" What's wrong, Mbok? Mang?"

Mbok Darmi and Mang Usman looked back, seeing Layla already standing behind them.

"Neng, nothing, Neng Layla walked into the room and locked the door." Mang Usman immediately walked over to Layla with a deathly pale face.

"Nothing what how Mang? that's who's all outside." Layla immediately walked up to the door of the house about to open the door.

Layla stopped her hand that was about to open the door, turning to look at Mang Usman and the frightened Mbok Darmi.

"Open the door quickly! or we're breaking down!"

Layla turned her gaze to the door of the house that was struck from the outside, very calmly she opened the door and opened it. "Layla's yard saw people standing and shouting at Layla.

Layla smilingly looked at the person who was insulting Layla. Layla quietly got off the porch and walked towards the courtyard and was followed by Mbok Darmi and Mang Usman from behind.

"Oh, you're apparently Mr. Yuda." Layla walked up to Judah and stood before Judah and the fearless people again.

"Father Father! Mother Mother! wait especially?! let's get Layla out!" yuda said in a loud voice.

"What was my fault that you hated me so much, Mr Yuda?" tanya Layla looked intently at Yuda.

"Because you're crazy! and you've also been in a house with a man who's not your husband!" Judah deliberately burned the emotions of the people without providing evidence that what was said was true.

"You're slandering Neng Layla! that's lying!" mang Usman said there was courage after seeing Layla bravely facing the irang who was being stirred by emotions by Yuda.

"Don't listen to him, just throw him out!" Yuda made the atmosphere more uncontrollable.

Suddenly one of the residents threw a stone the size of a baby's fist towards Layla.

"Puck!!

The stone hit Layla's temple, and fresh blood flowed from Layla's temple. Layla rubbed the blood flowing to her face. Layla stared intently at everyone with her teeth curtailing her anger. Mbok Darmi and Mang Usman saw Layla being thrown straight ahead and standing in front of Layla against the people who were about to hurt Layla.

" Are you crazy! accusation without evidence.you have no brains!" mang Usman said, his face was red.

"Essir Layla! Layla's crazy!" yuda's words again made the residents start following the others to throw Layla with stones, sandals. There are also those who throw Layla with mud land that has been prepared by Judah. Mang Usman and Mbok Darmi bow to protect Layla who is squatting because she avoids throwing people.

Residents stop the action and stare at Raiden, while Yuda finds out Raiden came running away before the residents saw him.

"You have no heart!" raiden approaches Layla and lifts Layla's body to wake up.

"I'll report your actions to the Police, remember! this is a state of law! you can't be a vigilante without proof!"

People looked at each other, "But Layla is crazy!" answer a citizen.

"Do you have any proof that Layla's crazy! what right have you to hurt Layla! remember, I'll keep reporting to the police!"

Raiden stared furiously at the citizens who had been anarchist towards Layla. His face was red, his teeth were grinding. After talking like that, the residents left Layla's yard one by one.

"Layla, you're so badly hurt, we're in the hospital" Raiden said, noting a wound in Layla's temple and a bruise on Layla's face. While Mbok Darmi and Mang Usman were also injured due to a stone throw directly approaching Layla and Raiden

Layla shook her head and said. "No Rai, take me inside the house" Layla replied very slowly. His eyes opened slightly limp, Layla was unconscious in Raiden's arms.

Raiden immediately lifted Layla's body and carried her. " Mang Usman, please take the car we're going to the Hospital, and Mbok Darmi also come along for treatment!"

Raiden decides to take Layla to the hospital with Mbok Darmi and Mang Usman. Because they are also injured which is involved by the citizens.
