Gaju - One

Gaju - One
Chapter 29 - Purpose

Beep beep beep.

The notification sound from the mini computer on the boy's four wristbands rang simultaneously. Gaju, Tian, Aju, and Adel looked at each other.

"Fashion, you are, yes" whispered Tian slowly.

Gaju knew what Tian meant. Tian must have wanted to take advantage of that opportunity to 'catch up' to Gaju. But, Gaju actually did not refuse either.

Gaju activated his mini computer and an announcement from the manager he received like two days earlier appeared there.

"Hmmm, 14 people have died" whispered Tian slowly.

Gaju could feel Tian's breath blowing around his neck. They were indeed 12 years old, but they were not an innocent brat who knew nothing. They are much more mature than a boy of his age.

"Steel, what do you think is the purpose of all this?" ask Aju from across from Gaju and Tian.

The four of them sat around a campfire near the waterfall that had a cave behind it. Gaju and Tian would certainly not let Adel and Aju use the cave. Therefore, they made a bonfire here. Of course also to burn fish as their dinner.

Gaju took a deep breath, even though he had guessed the purpose of the mad Professor making this Island, but he always kept it to himself. When Aju was currently questioning him, he was doubtful whether he should tell them about the hypothesis he developed.

"Shirt," whispered Tian slowly as he held Gaju's hand.

Adel simply glanced at Tian's mannerisms and let out an annoyed breath.

Gaju looked towards Tian and finally gave up.

"Perhaps, if I alone bear this burden, it is I who will feel the consequences" Gaju said in his heart.

"Okay, this is just my hypothesis. So you can analyze it yourself and decide to believe it or not" Gaju said.

Tian tightened his body towards Gaju under Adel's envious gaze which seemed to want to swallow him round and round.

"I think the island was created to train the perfect special forces" Gaju said, slowly explaining his own opinion.

The other three boys listened attentively.

"The perfect team that has no blood relation to anyone."

"The perfect army that has no relatives and can be sent to any field without thinking."

"We are trained with an incredible range of skills and knowledge. In addition, we're also given a genetic serum that can help our body's cells evolve."

"According to my prediction, all the facilities and technology used on this Island require extraordinary costs. Whoever stands behind the Professor must be someone or an organization with terrible resources."

"Why did the organization educate soldiers like us? With the resources they have, I believe they can form a large army with the funds used for this Island project."

"The only plausible explanation is that they want us to be perfect soldiers who move under the radar and do their rotten work. Like a bunch of ninjas in a Samurai story long ago."

"The ninja? The samurai? What'sthat?" cut Aju.

Adel immediately said, "you don't have to. How can your brain read ancient books."

Gaju only looked at the behavior of the two while smiling. As for Tian, he was still engrossed in seeing Gaju's face.

"The island wants us to be perfect warriors. Invidual soldiers are not collective soldiers. An army of only one man but with much greater destructive power than a company."

"The greatest obstacle to being a perfect warrior is emotion."

"All the tests, tests and living conditions we all have on the Island are to remove our emotions. To be the perfect warrior without emotion. Only a killing machine listens to the orders of its superiors and executes them effectively and efficiently."

"Therefore, I suspect that the same test as now will continue to be carried out by the Island to eliminate the Candidates and leave some of the best Soldiers."

The other three people took a deep breath as Gaju finished with his words.

But, there is one thing that Gaju forgot to say. The thing that had been the final barrier between him and Tian and could not make him trust Tian completely.

Gaju did not know what the purpose of soulmate was.

The island has been trying hard to erase the memories of the candidates. The island also 'raised' the Candidates without the concept of affection of parents and relatives.

Even Gaju felt that the concept of 'honey' and attachment between individuals or between humans was not taught at all to the Candidates on the Island.

Then why do they want the Candidates to run the concept of soulmate? What purpose?

A trust? Of loyalty? Cooperating?

Until now, Gaju has not been able to understand the purpose of this soulmate concept. Therefore, he had not been able to fully accept Tian's helping hand.

"Style, you seem to be smart, your hypothesis was also accurate. Even I feel like that's the purpose of the island. What's your IC score?" adel asked, "are you also a strategist?"

"That's none of your business," cut Tian, "we're enemies, do you think we'll be that stupid as to unlock our secrets to the enemy?" continued Tian with a fierce tone.

Adel just stuck out his tongue, "Tian, remember! You're my enemy, but Gaju isn't. Don't put Gaju like you in front of me."

"I won't hesitate to kill you, but I won't do that to Gaju. Understood?" adel continued and made Tian speechless.

This is what the island wants.

A 12-year-old boy but said about killing other people's lives as if it was just as important as eating and drinking. Without guilt or pity.

Tian snorted in annoyance, "you think I'm scared?"

Gaju smiled bitterly.

Somewhere else.

A couple of kids were holding hands and grimacing in pain.

The bones of a fish were in front of them. They both just ate it together.

"Is the fish we caught poisonous?" ask the Girl.

The boy shook his head, "I don't know."

The two of them were a less fortunate soulmate. Both are fighters. At first they felt that fellow Fighters would give more advantage to their survival abilities.

They were both able to cope with the threat of danger they had faced during the previous two days. But who would have thought that they would now be eliminated by a trivial cause such as eating poisonous fish.

They kept moaning and groaning in pain near their campfire.

Suddenly the boy felt a tremendous pain in his chest area.

"My face?" his groan slowly while tightly holding his soulmate hand.

A second later, the boy was already lying lifeless with his eyes still staring at his soulmate.

The little girl took a deep breath and clenched her jaws tightly, "my next turn," she murmured softly.

"Ughhhhhh," as he expected, moments later, the Girl felt a pain in her chest and she breathed her last after that.

The bonfire was still burning next to the two bodies that were stretched stiff without life.

The sound of wood being devoured by fire seemed to usher the two of them one last time to see this world.

One pair was eliminated half an hour after the notification was sent by the Society that night.
