Chapter 1 - Island

The little boy looked confused after reading about the test given to him. Didn't all of those questions have answers written in the material books given by the Society? Why is this written test so easy?

It was then that Gaju first realized that he was different from the other children.

Gaju hesitated to do the test and turned his eyes around the classroom. Distracting other children who seem to frown and try hard to find answers to their test questions.

Things that Gaju did not experience at all.

It is now the second month since Gaju experienced the incident. An event he can remember clearly. The incident when Gaju first set foot on this island. Isolated island which by all its inhabitants is only called by ‘Pulau’, without frills names or other mentions.

Simple, as simple as the name Gaju and his colleagues are only in the form of their sequence number. What was notified by the ‘Managers’ on the Island. Starting from Empty One to Four Empty.

The Management also has a name that is not less simple, Teacher, Chef, Nurse, Doctor and so on. Without any frills. Only one distinguishes between the Managers and the children of the Islanders. Every caretaker always wears a mask that covers part or all of their face.

Likewise with the Guardians who are always on standby above the guard tower located at every corner of the Complex on the Island. They also wear masks to cover their faces. Only the forty children who lived and grew up on the Island did not use any masks everyday.

Besides his own friends, Gaju has only seen one person who does not wear a mask on his face. The guy calls himself ‘Professor’ when he gets acquainted with all the kids.

Gaju remembered once the incident, almost all the Management around them always lowered their faces when near the Professor. It was then that Gaju realized that perhaps the Professor was the owner of the highest authority on the Island.

Gaju, who was a little astonished by what had happened to his friends, decided to start working on the written test given by their Master. But after seeing the facial expressions of his friends, Gaju deliberately answered 10 of the 100 questions given with the wrong answer, even though he could actually answer everything perfectly.

This island is unique, perhaps because that is why the mysterious organization behind the existence of the Island chose this place as the location for their program.

This small island of relatively small size has diverse land surface geographical conditions and can naturally turn into a natural fortress, making it very easy for Managers to keep an eye on Candidates, appellation of Manager for forty children who are in the Complex and follow this Program.

The island is shaped like a rhombus with the top diagonal end facing North. The three sides of the island are steep cliffs that have a height of more than 20m with sharp coral rocks below. A deadly trap ready to threaten anyone who accidentally or with falls down there.

Only on the southeastern side of the island are the sandy bays. It is near this sandy beach that the entire building and facilities in the Island were established. All residents of the Island call this entire facility by the name of Complex.

Geographical conditions are very diverse that is one of the reasons that makes the mysterious organization that created this program choose this small island as ‘Pulau’. The name used by all residents of this place for the island they occupy.

Before Gaju and his friends were taken to the Island, the Organization had prepared all the facilities needed for the training and education period of the Candidates. This facility is located on a plain located to the southeast of the Island. Close to the only beach here.

This complete and high-tech facility consists of several separate buildings and also several fields that will be used for the education and training activities of Candidates.

The organization created a program in which Candidates would grow and live on the Island during their teenage years, therefore, the, they also set up various additional leisure facilities to avoid mental disorders that Candidates may face.

All the buildings were located nearby and surrounded by a guardrail made of a mixture of walls and barbed wire. The Management calls the cluster of buildings that are in the fence as a Complex.

The fence surrounding the Complex consists of a half-meter high wall then continued by a two-meter high wire fence which at the top is given a roll of one meter high barbed wire.

Very intimidating and resembles a correctional fence.

However, the fence was not made to keep Candidates from escaping from the Complex, but they were also allowed to freely enter and exit through the main gate. The fence was made to prevent wild animals from entering the Complex and attacking or damaging existing facilities.

The building cluster that is inside the fence and is called ‘Komplek’ is divided into two areas. The first area is where the Management lives and activities are called the Management Complex and the second area is the area of the Candidates called the Main Complex.

The Management Complex was a forbidden area for Candidates. Gaju and his friends are not allowed to approach the Management Complex area for any reason, although in fact it is also not possible because there is a fence between the Manager Complex and the Main Complex which is much wider.

Due to the condition of the Island surrounded by cliffs on all three sides, the only possible location for the ship to lean is the Southeast side of the sandy beach. But the organization didn't build a dock there.

They use a much more effective and efficient way. Sending supplies and all other necessities by air by helicopter. And the only helipad on the Island is located in the Management Complex.

Due to the absence of piers and the condition of the cliffs surrounding the Island, the Organization considered that the chances of Candidates to escape could be said to be impossible.

Unless they intend to escape by road using helicopters that always come and go from within the Management Complex, but of course they must be ready to fight the tight security within the Area.
