Mama For Mikaela

Mama For Mikaela
SIXTY ONE

“The number you are heading to is off or outside the active area, try a few more moments.”

“Number you tu—“

Yoke!

Segara pressed the red button on his phone, then dumped the flat object on the dashboard of the car with the rage that began to come back.

Not once twice, he has tried calling the office boy's number he met last night to remind him of the promise to bring herbal tea and letters, yet none of his calls could even be connected.

Worrying. Segara was afraid the office boy was running away. Perhaps for being too afraid to face it again after last night's confession? Could have happened.

The clock on Segara's left wrist already showed the number 8. The car engine has been running since 10 minutes ago, but his feet still have not moved to step on the gas pedal because he is still busy trying to contact the office boy.

From the rearview mirror to the right, Segara can peek at the existence of Lana who apparently still feels at home waiting in the doorway. I don't know, he himself also does not understand why Lana still insists on being there even though he has said that the woman immediately entered and did other activities that are more useful.

The more days together, Segara increasingly understands that Lana is also a stubborn typical on several occasions. Maybe it was the way it was. Perhaps it was her destiny to live surrounded by stubborn people, just like her.

After glancing at the watch in his hand once again, Segara stepped on the accelerator, not too deep but was able to move his car away from the front yard. While exiting the gate, he still occasionally glanced at the rearview mirror to ascertain whether Lana was still standing in place or not. And when he found the woman turned around, then stepped on the accelerator he was so deep that his car began to go at full speed.

Usually, Segara always drives in full concentration. But this morning, he couldn't at all just focus on the streets he was walking through as his mind started branching off a lot. He thought about a lot of things. About the office boy he met last night, about Micah who never went home, about Pamela who in a few days did not contact him since the last time the woman was crying sob in his arms, also about the heartbeat that began to move irregularly every time he was close to Lana.

All of those things came simultaneously, as if scrambling to get the highest place in the head of Segara, like people who were struggling in a race.

The tangle of thoughts made Segara unaware that his car had gone far, began to pull over from the crowded streets entering the complex of high-rise buildings where his office stood.

The brakes are stepped on, making the car wheels stop turning in front of the office building's courtyard. Segara should go straight to the basement, but the condition of the crowded court makes access to it blocked.

With slow movement and a fixed view on the crowd in front, Segara released the seatbelt. When the crowd began to widen, Segara's eyes saw two police cars and an ambulance parked in the area near the entrance to the lobby. Starting from there, Segara's feelings are not good. His slow movement disappeared, replaced by a hoarse movement when he opened the car door and ran out to the crowd.

“He said he was depressed because of a lot of debt.”

“One of his coworkers said he was the backbone of the family, his mother was sick and needed a big fee to get treatment, maybe that's why he became a lot of debt.”

“Poor, yes. If he died that way, his mother no longer care dong means.”

“When the person is nice, polite as well. I if you ask for help buyin anything must be the same him.”

“Emang, yes, no one knows how people are.”

“Means behind his friendly and generous smile, he has hidden the suffering itself, yes.”

The sentences that came out of the different lips overlapped with each other in Segara's ears, making his head began to feel heavy.

Segara still continued to step up, barging through the crowd only to be greeted by the pungent smell of rancor. A red liquid welled up filled the asphalt in the courtyard, surrounding the body of a helplessly barked human with open wounds on the head. Segara's body trembled, he almost lost his footing when his brain managed to recognize who was lying stiff.

The office boy he had been calling since morning, who had promised to bring the evidence, was now dead. Even though Segara had placed high hopes on him to be able to get a bright spot for all the disasters that occurred around his family. And now, the only clue closest to it is gone. Lost, or perhaps, indeed intentionally eliminated.

Segara turned dazed. His brain suddenly froze when several officers began taking photos of the scene and told the people who worked to get away from it, including him. The evacuation process of the office boy's body continued even though some people still insisted on staying, watching from a distance.

While on the doorstep of the inner lobby, there was Pamela who stood rigidly watching Segara who was sitting limp near his car. Once again, he had to watch Segara see a tragic death before his eyes.

...****************...

The incident of the death of the office boy made Segara take the decision to negate any activities in the office that day. In addition to sterilizing TKP, he also needs time to clear his cloudy mind.

At the end of a long table in the meeting room, Arkana stood her back, staring straight at the stretch of tall building across from their office building through a large glass window. The young man hurt both hands, repeatedly breathing rough while listening to the story about the office boy Segara met last night.

“Loker employee,” Arkana turned a little, not to turn around to look at Segara who was sitting at the end of the table across. “Gue sure the evidence is not there, because I am also sure that this is not a case of suicide.”

Although heavy, Segara nodded his ass. He himself believes Nurdin will not be as determined to jump from the floor of the tallest building just because of debt problems. Hey, that guy even begged him not to be put in jail for fear of no longer being able to make a living for his family, right?

“CCTV must have been checked by the police, right?” this time, Arkana has completely reversed itself. The young man then leaned his body on the wall, folding both hands in front of his chest while looking at Segara seriously. “The result is definitely nil.”

“Yups. He did not like CCTV steps to the emergency stairs, and as we know, there are several blind spots afterwards that make him invisible again.” Segara. He got up from the chair, walked up to Arkana and stopped at the end of the table, standing with one hand on the long table. “No one else has a camera on his way there before and after him, so yeah, it's certain that the police will kill if this is a case of suicide.

“Sialan.” Arkana growling. Already no longer know what to react like to face a slippery bastard once like this eel. He still doesn't even understand why this guy always targets Segara. He thought a lot, none of him could find the answer.

Amidst the tangling of their minds, the door of the meeting room was knocked several times. Automatically, the two of them turned their heads in that direction, to find Pamela standing behind it with a look that was too difficult to read.

“Ga, can I come in?” ask the woman. Either it was just her feelings, or Pamela's voice was trembling a little.

There was a strong reason for her to refuse, but in the end Segara nodded his head so Pamela rushed into the meeting room, joining herself and Arkana.

What Segara did not realize was that Arkana's face immediately changed. Highlight the young man's eyes also looked different when staring at Pamela who moved closer, as if putting on a vigilant attitude that had been set automatically whenever the woman was in close range.

“Why not go home?” ask Segara as soon as Pamela gets in front of him.

“I'm just worried about you. It must have shocked you and—“

“State is okay. Anyway, there's me too.” Arkana interjected with a stinging tone. Truly, the man made absolutely no attempt to hide his dislike of Pamela.

Do not want a commotion that will only add to the burden on the head, Segara interjected. “Ar,” tease. It made Arkana who was ready to talk again practically speechless. “Please pick up my wife's son gih, later I will follow.”

“Bareng aja anyhow.”

Segara shook his head slowly. “Gue want to chat with Pamela.” for a while

The loud snort Arkana made was clearly from the man's unwillingness to leave, but he had no other choice. “Do not long-long.” Then, he passed after glancing sharply at Pamela once more.

“You okay?” Segara asked after making sure Arkana passed leaving them both.

“I should have, Ga. You okay? The incident must have made you shocked and remember the same—“ again

“Yeah,” Segara interrupts. The death of Nurdin in a terrible way not only makes his wish to get to the bright spot extinct, but also at the same time makes him think back to the events of the death of Karenina. Their circumstances were more or less the same, both suffering heavy injuries to the head so that their lives could not be saved. “But I’m okay now.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah.” Segara turned to anchor his gaze on the projector board commonly used for presentations. “How are you? Alright already? You didn’t call or text me after that day,”

That day's. Pamela took a deep breath as she recalled the day she cried sobbing in Segara's arms. It was the worst day of his life, and he probably wouldn't have survived if Segara hadn't been there to listen to his complaints and give a warm hug.

“I ... finally mutusin make a move home.”

“Really? You tried to ask your dad about that? I mean—“

“No possibility if it is a misunderstanding.” Pamela cut. Although his arrival here is not to discuss the matter anymore, but the question that Segara raised was enough to ignite the fire of anger that almost melted it that day. The relationship between him and his father deteriorated until he decided to leave the house, moving to an apartment not far from the office. “Papa also no any denial love when I nyodorin proof, so it's clear if there is something between her and the woman.”

He said the first love for the girl was her father. But Segara instead finds Pamela hurt because of her first love itself.

Infidelity. Again such cases become a frightening specter for people who are in a relationship. Not only for their partners, but also for their mentally disturbed love children after knowing how flattered and admired people have not been as good as they thought.

Pamela was disappointed, so she would not judge the woman's decision to leave the house. Because it could be, it is the only way to calm down.

“Where did you move to? May I know? So that if there is anything, I can quickly help.”

“Apartment Green Hills.”

“Near.”

Pamela nodded, “Involuntarily, let me go home on foot. Because if you ride a car fitting my head is again crowded, I am afraid even things happen that are not desirable.”

“What do you need? What's not there yet? Let me help you.”

“Ga,”

“Hmm?”

“I'm here to check your condition, not the other way around.”

Segara was silent for a while, then tried to publish a smile that was not how wide. “I'm okay, Mel, no need to worry. Thanks for care.”

“I have. You always care for me.”

Segara did not answer, he only gave a more sincere smile because it was all he could do. Because his head is still full, still too cloudy.
