Mama For Mikaela

Mama For Mikaela
THIRTY EIGHT

Lana was preparing breakfast for herself, a piece of tuna sandwich and a glass of warm water when the phone she left on the pantry clinked a few times. He had to leave the tuna sandwich which was a little more finished, moving to his cellphone which sounded so early. Just at 7, the sun was still peering coyly from behind the gray cloud clumps.

Lana's forehead wrinkled a lot when she found Segara's name plastered on her phone screen. There was not much he could read from the notification pop-up at the top of the screen, so he was forced to open the whole message to find what it contained.

Instantly open, Lana was shocked. He pinched a picture of the ring Segara sent, researching well whether it was indeed the ring he lost 4 days ago. It was her mother's ring, a sacred thing that she loved like she loved herself.

Four days ago, after he went to the apartment and was about to wash his body under a shower, Lana realized the ring was no longer embedded in the ring finger of his left hand. The mist he searched, all over the corner of the apartment, also had time to wonder to his colleagues in day care. But he never found that beloved thing. Apparently, the ring was instead found by Segara, who was not included in the list of people he thought at all.

Relief quickly spread throughout the cells in Lana's body, the sadness she brought and the resignation she had given just in case the ring did not meet eventually disappeared. With a smile growing, Lana typed in a reply.

Somewhat long wait, the brutal movement of worms in the stomach finally makes Lana forced to put back her phone, then finish the tuna sandwich she previously left so it can be eaten. It did not take longer, the tuna sandwich was finished and Lana immediately enjoyed it while opening a chat room with Segara, still waiting for a reply.

However, until his tuna sandwich was eaten, the reply he hoped would not appear.

“Kok is not reciprocated, huh? Did Mr Segara leave for work?” his monologue. However, he did not think about it further because the most important thing is that he already knew that his love met. It doesn't have to be now, he can take it another time. After all, they will also still meet to have a wedding 2 days from now, right?

Speaking of marriage... Actually, Lana still does not fully believe that she finally agreed to Segara's request. He did not even mind to give understanding, did not demand the holding of the wedding party because he had heard how the condition of Segara from Lekaki's sister-in-law, Arkana.

Lana is not a good person, at least not a typical person who is willing to sacrifice so much for others. But with Micah and Segara, somehow he didn't feel like he was sacrificing anything, even when they were just getting to know each other.

After chugging the warm water, Lana got up. She then walked back to her room with her cell phone in hand, only to sit quietly in front of the dresser while looking at a frame where she kept family photos.

There, there he, his father and mother were smiling brightly towards the camera. The photo was taken 4 years ago in Bali, when they were on holiday to celebrate the mother's birthday. The various places they visited with joyful hearts, full of joy. It was not at all in Lana's head that the holiday would be the last, as it was only 18 days after they returned to Jakarta, the car they were riding in had a severe accident that killed both parents. Lana becomes the sole survivor of the tragedy, but the trauma left her life unsettled even years later.

In order to heal herself from the trauma, Lana had to diligently meet with a psychiatrist, taking some prescribed medicines to reduce anxiety and nightmares that often come every night. Now, Lana is not taking any drugs anymore, she has also stopped seeing a psychiatrist since the last 9 months. Nightmares only occasionally come, if he is really tired and there is no one he can talk to. Like a dream it came as an outpouring of emotions that he was alone with.

Despite that, Lana still can't make peace with the rainstorm and the sound of ambulance sirens. Two things are still the biggest factor to make him recall the fateful events 4 years ago. When her mental state stabilized, Lana would at most only feel anxious and a little frightened when those bad memories returned away. But if his mental condition is bad, he can cry hysterically, even fainting, as happened to him in day care some time ago.

In fact, if to be honest, Lana still often hopes that the accident that claimed the lives of her parents is only a dream. Wouldn't it be nice if he still had both of his parents here now?

Trying to assert herself, Lana tried to smile. He still remembers his father saying, “What happens in this life, has been determined in such a way by God. Don't curse, don't curse God for the plan He made because we humans never really know what's good behind it all.” The miss was occasionally still away, bringing along countless claustrophobic and ending up making her cry alone.

But as his father said, he won't be damning things. Pigura came back she put it into place, then she walked towards the bathroom to immediately clean herself up. Mana knows when he finished bathing later, Segara has replied to his message so that he gets certainty when to take his ring back.

...----------------...

And after being traced, it turns out that the culprit is Arkana. The young man who had been staying at his house for a few days and became an impromptu baby sitter for Micah promised his son to go for a walk. They had just left 5 minutes ago, leaving themselves alone to prepare to leave for the office as well.

At first, Segara wanted to reply to Lana's message by saying that the woman could take her ringworm back later in the afternoon when she had returned home from the office. But after he thought about it, it would be better if he directly returned the thing to the owner, without delaying too much.

So, his intention to reply to the message was canceled. Instead, Segara put the ring in his shirt pocket, then he rushed all his necessities to the office like a suit and briefcase.

Fortunately, he had asked Arkana for help to heat up his car engine before the young man left with Micah, so when Segara got to the garage, he was left gas-fired.

The road at 8 am already looks solid, but can still be reached at a normal rate. Yeah, I mean, not creeping very like usual. Because if that happens, Segara might undo the intention of covering to Lana's apartment and prefer to immediately rush to the office, because he has an important meeting at 10 later. The meeting must not be missed, or he will be re-raised by Adella. Right, that woman has become even more chatty the past few days.

Arriving in front of Lana's apartment complex, Segara then pulled out his cellphone. Back he moved his long fingers over the keyboard, writing down a few sentences.

About 10 minutes waiting, Lana's figure emerged from behind the gate. As usual, the woman will come with a thin smile framing her face.

This time Segara took the initiative to get out of the car first, not waiting until the woman arrived at the side of the car and knocked on the glass as she usually did.

"Sir is alone?" lana asked as she turned her head to the car, looking for Micah.

"I myself. Micah again walks with Arkana." While answering, Segara took out a ring from his shirt pocket, then thrust it into Lana.

Lana received the ring, then immediately pinned it back to the left hand ring finger. "Thank you for coming all the way here to deliver it, sir. Though I can come to get his ring at home."

Segara smiled, "No problem, I all want to go to the office. Besides I've been overtime a lot lately, afraid that waiting for me to come home from work, the ring is gone again."

"Thank you very much."

"I'm sorry, then." Pamit Segara and is possessed by Lana. But before he touched the car door and opened it, Segara turned back. Just to say, "Oh, yes, Miss .. got a greeting from Micah." Then turned around quickly and immediately gas-stamped without waiting for any response from Lana.

For Segara, it might just be a plain sentence that is meaningless. But for Lana who had lived alone for so many years in such a long loneliness, that sentence meant a lot.

Someone's looking for him. Some consider his existence valuable, in addition to his parents. And it managed to make Lana's smile grow more powerful, her heart was slowly warmed.

Exactly after Segara's car disappeared swallowed by the turn, Lana completely removed the doubts that had enveloped her heart even until a while before. To herself, she said, that the decision to become a mother Micah continued was the right one. For just as the child needs himself who can give the affection of a mother, he needs Micah to survive with the thought that he is precious.
