Mama For Mikaela

Mama For Mikaela
THIRTY NINE

Perhaps because this was not the wedding he really wanted from the bottom of his heart, Segara did not feel any anxiety as his feet stepped into the church, where the invited guests had been sitting on their respective chairs, ready to bear witness to the bondage of two lovebirds in the eternal blessing of God.

In front of a priest who was ready to lead the pronunciation of the sacred promise, Segara stood with a firm back. Sometimes he looked back, checking for Micah who was sitting in a herd flanked by Mama and Papa. Just next to them, Pamela and her father also sat down, smiles emanating on the faces of both of them even though Segara knew there was a different meaning from their respective smiles. Arkana is not there, he is assigned to escort Lana to the Altar, later, some time to come.

While waiting for the procession to run, Segara's mind again floated. Several scenes from the past came into view, making him feel both happy and restless at the same time. She missed Karenina, that was all she thought about when she met the man in his 50s in front of her.

In the past, in this church, the blessing of his marriage with Karenina was also done, guided by the same pastor, with a similar atmosphere and decoration. What's different is really how Segara feels. How no grand celebration in his heart as when he had tied the sacred promise with Karenina.

After waiting for a few minutes, he heard two footsteps coming from behind. Segara then turned his back, finding himself at a loss for words as Lana's figure walked over with veils covering his head and face. In the woman's hand, there was a bouquet of Baby’s Breath and a white Peony that seemed to be tightly grasped, while beside her, Arkana stood swiftly in a black suit and bow tie.

Lana was brought walking closer, then they stood side by side facing the priest who was preparing to lead them towards the chanting of the sacred promise that everyone was waiting for—maybe besides her.

Segara became the first to make his sacred promise. With a vibrating voice—as she recalled Karenina—ia saying, “In front of friends, family, and God, I made you to be my wife. I promise with God's help to be a faithful, devoted, and loving husband throughout the days of our lives.”

Finished with his promise, Segara grimaced. His chest felt tight, a feeling of guilt enveloped, growing larger than he had previously expected. Apparently, he was scared. Unknowingly, he had played with a sacred marriage. He realized he would not be able to become the husband figure he had spoken of, but he did so in the name of his affection for Micah.

And, the tightness became even more so when Lana who was standing next to him also said a promise he wrote himself. “I promise to love you above all else and cherish you in my life as a precious gift. I look forward to raising our families and building our relationships under the care and guidance of God. I promise to stand by you as a wife and friend in sickness or health, in moments of prosperity and decline, in peace and chaos, as long as we both are alive.”

Then, right after the woman beside him finished speaking, Segara grabbed his right hand, and then pinned a small first ring that did not appear glittering to his ring finger. Lana did the same to him.

A series of events continues. The chants of prayer were said, echoed by all the attendees who came as invited guests. Broadly speaking, it looked like a wedding in general. In plain view, the two brides seemed happy when their eyes met each other after a series of events were completed.

The difference, that afternoon, in the holy church and witnessed by several pairs of eyes, no kiss landed on Lana's forehead or lips. They both just hold each other's hands, smiling to further support their role as humans who have just been declared legitimate as a couple.

“Ren, I feel like I’m cheating on you.”

“Mama and Dad see? Lana's married, so from now on, there's nothing else for Mama and Dad to worry about from up there.”

...****************...

The move that Lana was swinging stopped at the end of the stairs. He undoes the intention to catch Segara who had first climbed to the 2nd floor by carrying a suitcase containing his clothes. The cause is one, because his gaze met with a large photo frame that showed the figure of Segara and his previous wife, Karenina.

Lana knew she had no right to get rid of anything that had previously been in this house, for she was a guest who had to leave at any time when the owner of the house wished. So instead of feeling hate, he was stuck long enough in front of the picture frame, wondering how beautiful the figure of Karenina in a white wedding dress. How bright the smile that woman showed, as bright as that of her husband who seemed to look full of puja towards her.

One conclusion that Lana got just by looking at the wedding photo: Segara loved Karenina so much.

“Miss.” That still unchanged call made Lana withdraw from her admiration for the figure of Karenina. He turned his head, looking up slightly to find Segara who stood on the 2nd floor while looking straight at him. “Miss room is on the left, I've done it, so Miss can take a break later."

Lana smiled faintly, then nodded. Just as he was a guest, the host treated him as such. Long days after they agreed to get married, he and Segara did talk about separate rooms.

For Segara, the reason is clear because the man still cannot forget his late wife. As for Lana, it was just as simple as that she would not come into physical contact with anyone without having feelings. Well, to this extent, he still looked at Segara in the same way, just a father of a boy who happened to manage to steal his attention, nothing more.

“Bby.” Lana replied with a faint smile.

Then suddenly, Micah's screaming voice made the two turn their heads towards the bottom floor. They go home in the same car, and Micah goes with Arkana and Papa and Mama.

“Mommy Lana!” yell at the kid again. His little legs swung wide, running towards Lana who was standing in the middle of the stairs.

As usual, Segara found the woman welcoming Micah with joy. He saw Lana crouching, spread her arms wide and clenched Micah so tightly as the little girl finally came to the front. The wedding dress that spread covered the stairs also seemed not to be an obstacle for Lana. The woman could easily get back up with Micah who had moved into her arms.

“Mikha, Miss—errr, Mommy Lana want to take a shower first, you get off first yes.” Tegur Segara slowly.

Micah did not mind at all, the boy immediately went down, then took Lana's hand to climb the remaining stairs. “Mikha also wants to take a shower, with Mommy Lana.” The cerocos. Just so, he let the two men pass, leaving him who is now the object of attention for Arkana, Mama and Papa who are still standing on the first floor.

Realizing he was being noticed in such a way, Segara also walked down the stairs. He led his parents to sit in the living room, while Arkana he left behind, not he considered as a guest who should be welcome to sit first.

“Mama same Papa want to nginep, yes,” chirps Mama suddenly, make Segara choke his own spit. “Kan, you want the first night with Lana. Mama will take care of Micah, let's not disturb your first night.”

What was the first night? Ringis Segara in heart. “Living room used with Arkana, no more empty room.” Segara reasoned.

“There's still one more, right? Nothing small,” Mama still insists.

“Nothing. Room that was already Segara soin barn.” His lie. In fact, yes in the room that Mama means he will lock Arkana starting tonight. Because the main guest room will be used as Lana's room.

Mama frowned, showing a frown that did not represent her age that almost entered the head 5. “Pelit.” His grunt.

Segara did not respond to this, he turned to look at Papa who was indeed more silent. “Papa okay?” tanyakanya.

Papa nodded steadily, smiling as a guarantee that his condition was fine. “But not yet able to go to the office, Ga. Sorry, yes,” clearly looks that unpleasant look on his father's face.

Segara shook his head slowly, “It’s okay, the office business is already Segara handle kok, there is Arkana is also ready to help. Yes, right?” he looked back, glancing at Arkana who preferred to stand behind his body.

“Aman, Pa.” Arkana Sahut.

Hearing that, Papa Damian's face looked even more relieved. “Still, yes, children Papa.”

Segara and Arkana just nodded while putting on a thin smile.

The conversation that happened between them next was not far from work. Only Mama who occasionally interject with topics that deviate, such as how many children Segara and Lana plan to have in the future, or where they want to honeymoon. Haiyan... The kid? A honeymoon? It did not occur to Segara at all to these two things.

So the bad questions from Mama he did not respond, he just let the woman grumble as she pleased.
