Bajo Village in Torosiaje Village, Gorontalo. The uniqueness of this village is that all the houses and facilities are above the sea. Yes really over the ocean off the coast of Torosiaje, Gorontalo. When we visited we used a traditional canoe that can be filled by 5 passengers. In less than 10 minutes we have arrived at the dock Kampung Bajo.

We were greeted by Mr. Tama who became the head of the hamlet in Bajo Village. Mr. Tama explained that not only the houses of the residents were in the village above the sea, but there were also village-level government centers, halls, mosques, and public lodging. It is like a village in general.

Furthermore, Pak Tama explained that those who inhabit this village are the Bajo Tribe and other tribes if there are married between tribes. Mr. Tama himself is originally a Makassar person, but because he married a Bajo tribe, he finally set himself to live in this village. 

As for the reason why he wanted to stay in this place because he felt calm because it was far from the noise of vehicles and close to his daily work as a fisherman, so if you want to go to sea just go down because the boat is always leaned behind his house.

Furthermore, Mr. Tama explained that the Bajo tribe is widely spread on the coast throughout the archipelago, even until there are also stranded in the Philippines.

Initially, the Bajo kingdom was located in the Strait of Malacca. At that time the king lost his only daughter while he was at sea. Hearing that the princess was missing, the king ordered all his guards and people to search for the princess. As royal servants and obedient people, the guards and the people work hand in hand to find the existence of the princess in the sea. So unfortunately the king to his daughter, he ordered the guards and his people who would search until said, "Don't you go home until my daughter is found!" 

And from that moment the guards and the people of the Bajo tribe searched for the existence of the princess in all corners of the sea. They did not dare to go home because they did not find the figure of the princess. They prefer to live on every beach they live on. That is why the existence of the Bajo tribe is in all corners of the archipelago. They are in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, Wakatobi, Kendari, even to the extent that there are stranded Sulu islands in the Southern Philippines and Thailand. And all that they live on the sea.

For the Bajo tribe living on the sea is a choice. They once tried to live like normal humans on land, but after being lived did not last long. They returned to life on the ocean. Breathing in the sea air, enjoying the silence and the endless roar of the waves.

The Bajo tribe is also known as humans who are adept at holding their breath in the water for up to a few minutes, some can even reach 11 minutes. The activities they do are diving to find fish or lobster that are on the seabed.

In 2007, he died at the age of 38. His family still exists today. After long telling the history of the Bajo tribe, Pak Tama then took us around the village.

Seeing life that is almost the same as land, only the difference above the sea. There are stalls, workshops, even street names there. Electricity and water PDAM have also entered and become adequate facilities. The foundation of the house supported by Gopasa wood looks very sturdy, can even last up to 30 years.

Another one revealed the mystery of the existence of the history of the Bajo tribe which will become a cultural record in the archipelago. Tiredness disappeared immediately after feeling the hospitality and warmth of the local population by greeting and visiting the Bajo tribe residence, local residents. Do not be surprised if the tourists will be warmly welcomed and even offered to eat fresh fish from their catches.
