Chapter 55. A Gift

A Gift

A few days walking Lintani could only see Elliyat from the outside on a glass window. He was only given a chance to see for a few minutes, because it should not be too long in the sterile room. Moreover, he had to alternate with Askelan and the other Harrad family. Sometimes one of the relatives and colleagues still come. They showed concern when the woman was dying.

Askelan did all sorts of lifeless activities, though, she had the chance to see her mother for longer, still not more than an hour. Everyone should not stay in the ICU room too long during the rush hour.

Lintani often saw the man sitting next to his mother, sometimes even falling asleep in the room itself. He always held Elliyat's hand and placed it on his cheek.

Lintani knows what it's like to lose until she can understand Askelan's feelings. It was only natural that lately the man had often left his job and only focused on accompanying Elliyat, who did not move at all, but, that only son wanted to spend time with her without regret.

Lintani looks at Askelan from outside the glass window while remembering her past. As he was carried by his mother in a hurry without a word.

His mother kissed him repeatedly and cried. The little boy never knew what caused the woman to cry.

In the car he saw a snotty little girl but, with a pretty face, she was curly-haired and fair-skinned, that child was Haifa. It was their first meeting.

In the end he could only cry, how terrifying was the sight of the thick black smoke, soaring high into space. Since then, he has never known how his entire family is doing.

Lintani works as usual and after returning from the store today, she searches for a gift for Elliyat, to the traditional market. He would buy a small jar of coin containers that could be sealed shut. It was made of clay and painted with good pictures. He had seen it from a craft peddler.

If the money is enough, he wants to give a nightgown also for Elliyat with his favorite rabbit pattern, which can be used to sleep later. However, after thinking back, there was no point in buying that shirt, until he would buy something for Askelan alone.

The man already had everything, and there was nothing else he needed, because the car he changed every day. However, the gift he will give is a thank you for lending 50 thousand dollars, has protected him from the shots of criminals and he has helped when Lintani cold in the room.

Other gifts offered by store owners are increasingly expensive, such as shoes and shirts. Lintani actually glanced at the dark blue shirt, which she thought would be very interesting if Askelan wore it without a suit. But the price will not be enough with the money he has. Finally, he chose a belt for 300 dollars. That's a pretty expensive thing for him.

Lintani wrapped the gift neatly using plain corn paper, then, stored it in a bag and would give it at the right time.

Afterwards, she returned to the hospital, feeling satisfied and hopeful of giving a gift to Elliyat. However, what he later heard upon entering the hospital was, the news of his death.
