Chapter 3. The Promise of Hearts

A heartfelt promise

“Close your mouth! Tell all your excuses in court later!” said the guard again with the same rudeness.

“But, Sir! I am completely innocent, even I imitated the man!”

The guard laughed out loud, then, said again.

“You think I believe that the dead can stand?”

After the man finished talking, a friend signaled for him to come in and drive the car to the prison. All the trouble in that place was over, just waiting for the next investigation.

When the car he was riding across Luxor and Rauja, Lintani turned her head and was eager to shout, but, to see the sneaky grin he saw on the lips of the husband and wife, he undoes his intentions. He realized he had fallen into the family's trap for Haifa.

Lintani is unlikely to say in court if Haifa is supposed to be in her current position.

Haifalah the real culprit, the innocent, beautiful, meek and well-known girl in the entertainment world was a vanishing offender and fed others to take his place. Who would believe it?

Lintani closed her eyes, imagined her life in prison, and gave up her dreams and desire to finish her education and find her mother. He was not desperate, but he did not dare to dream again after everything that happened tonight.

There was nothing he could blame but himself, fate led him into a shipwreck that was in the middle of the sea without a skipper, he himself became his passenger. While the parent who was supposed to be in charge, went out of nowhere. Leaving the girl in the shade of the storm of pain created by the Lux family, became a lackey of strangers who were not known and even considered dead in his hands.

The prison is home to Lintani along with thousands of other female criminals Nara is accused of being guilty of. He had to spend eight years behind bars to make up for all the things he never did.

Currently, Lintani is silent on her thin bed mattress, while thinking about her fate that has gone through several months of prison law, in a state of pregnancy and the time to give birth to her baby is near.

Lintani was found guilty of all available evidence, and had to serve fifteen years in prison. However, consideration of her honest answer, as well as a lawyer, led the girl to serve half her sentence.

Suddenly a loud noise came from the direction of his bedside, “Hai slacker! It's your job to wash our clothes!” said a fat woman, throwing a pile of dirty clothes, at Eliat.

Eliat is a middle-aged woman who sleeps by Lintani's side, and is gentle and kind to Lintani, but he also always seems weak during their time in prison.

Elliat was the only friend to the girl. Likewise with Lintani, they are like finding a brother since the presence of the girl as a prisoner's cell, where both are located. This is the good fortune God gave Eliat as he grew weak and lonely.

“Let me alone!” said Lintani volunteered to replace the task imposed by the other inmates on her.

“Good, you guys are like mom and son only!” the chubby woman shouted followed by laughter by the other woman.

Everyone in a prison cell, has their own duties, but often those who feel stronger, do as they please in a weak criminal even though, their position is the same.

The two women, Lintani and Eliat, are as familiar as mother and son, who are dependent on each other.

After the rough women's departure, Lintani and Eliat wash all the clothes together while having a conversation. It's like their daily habits.

“Already, Lin. You are also pregnant, watch your baby if his mother is too tired.”

“Auntie, were you tired of working for your baby too?”

“No. When I was pregnant I worked hard so that my baby would live well!”

“You know, I want you to marry my son if you're free later, he's successful now and will get me out soon.”

“Auntie, it doesn't need to be like that, I'm a dirty woman who will have children. Better your son be married to a good woman, not me.”

“What did you say, Lin? You are the best for my son!”

“Auntie, let's get the job done and sleep after this is done.” Lintani attempts to divert the conversation, but Eliat continues his argument.

“Lin, no longer consider yourself dirty, the dirty is the woman who should be in your position.”

That is how the same talk is repeated all the time, Lintani never said bored to Eliat, instead he was very grateful because there are people who believe in him so much.

“Lin, if you could meet my son when he visits, I would introduce you to him.”

“Well if you can, I'll wait for him.” Lintani said with a smile covering up her own disappointment because she knew that the prison warden would never allow it.

“Sure, he said the time is near and he will free me soon.”

Soon the so-called Eliat was an infinite time which he himself did not know, when.

“Really? I'm happy to hear it, Auntie,” said Lintani calmed the woman beside her.

“Sure you should be happy, my son is very handsome, you must like him!”

Lintani smiled hearing that while nodding.

“Lin, you know what she experienced nine months ago?”

“Auntie, I don't know anything, but, I hope your son experiences a good thing, am I right, Bi?”

“Not! He was framed and almost died, fortunately he had a better plan, from the trap he became what he is today. I can't wait to bring my son to you.”

"Did he escape the trap?"

"Yes. You're right, he escaped the trap."

Lintani suddenly recalls the moment of the incident where she saw Lux and Rauja, they have a scheming plan to use her for Haifa's sake. Hearing the word trap, he had been trapped to lose his pride as a woman.

The girl did not expect that the man's actions would make her pregnant. She had to give birth to a baby and would raise a child in prison.

It never really crossed his mind. Moreover, he could not ask a stranger to account for his actions, after all the man was already in hell.

“Come, BI. We're sleeping again. All our work is done!” lintani.
