Chapter 47. Wooden Cottage 1

Lintani did not know what the wooden hut was meant by Askelan. He had never heard of such a place before let alone that he had to work. So, he refused subtly.

“Sorry, Sir, I can't come with you because I have to take care of mom and also I have to work!”

They were talking in front of Lintani's bedroom door

“What is your job?” ask Askelan, it's actually an unnecessary question because she already knows.

“I just became a laborer in the fish shop!”

“Why do you work in such a place?”

“I like it!” Lintani answered everything by force because she could not say if she did it because she had to. It was impossible for a woman like her who had just come out of prison, to be able to get a good job, to be such a laborer was indeed worthy of her.

“I think you like to design and draw?”

“Yes, that too!”

“Then you can design for me, right?

“Picturing for you? Make what for example?”

“Anything, my clothes for example!” askelan said again.

Lintani was surprised because as he remembered, Askelan was not interested in his image at all when he showed the results of his work to Elliyat. That guy looks ordinary.

That morning Askelan sat down at the dinner table, dressed in a well-groomed suit, as usual. He was waiting for something, while Lintani was cooking.

While Lintani did not know, what made the man sit there, when he had finished making breakfast and served his meal in two different places. All this time only occasionally he saw Askelan in the morning before leaving for work.

The girl did not say hello as she simply prepared her food. However, as Askelan quickly brought a plate full of food closer and put it in her mouth slowly, she was seen enjoying the food.

Lintani did not think that Askelan would spend the food on her plate, until she realized that the food she had been providing for herself was actually spent by the man, without even saying thank you.

Lintani did not comment and only saw Askelan wiping her aunt with a tissue, when she finished packing the food. Maybe he thought Lintani was deliberately cooking for himself all this time.

“Why don't you eat?” askelan said without the slightest guilt, but, no problem for Lintani.

“I used to eat my breakfast with Mom in the hospital!”

“Why didn't you say?”

“Say what, mean?”

“Yes, saying that you will have breakfast with mom, I won't eat here either if you know!”

At that time Lintani was stunned because she did not expect that the man wanted to eat with her.

“You're done?” ask Askelan again as she stood up from her chair and, seeing Lintani who was about to remove the apron from her body. Askelan approached, wanting to help the girl, but, Lintani was done and nodded as Askelan arrived behind her.

“Come!” he said while carrying a rice box that had been wrapped neatly by Lintani. The girl felt bad letting a man like Askelan carry food while riding the elevator.

“Give me, I can take it myself, we ride a different car right?”

“We leave together today, Mother asked for it!”

It was all because of Elliyat, his mother. If it wasn't for the woman maybe forever they wouldn't have gone together and, acting like a real married couple.

“Follow me later after seeing my mom!” askelan said after they walked towards the car. Jordan almost blew a laugh when he saw Askelan carrying something in her hand.

“Where?”

Askelan did not answer, they entered the car that Jordan had opened the door to.

“To the place I said yesterday!” askelan said as they were already inside and the vehicle was speeding to the hospital.

“Why?”

“I have to work!”

“Well, I'll drop you later after there!”

“You ..?” Lintani is furious, she clenches her hands, she can't go anywhere because she feels a sense of responsibility and, also pity Shane if he doesn't come. That woman will be very troubled.

They were all silent, Jordan himself had no idea what the two opposite sex people were talking about behind him. What kind of place Askelan was referring to, he simply requested that a Jeep be prepared.

While in the hospital, Lintani gets Elliyat in intensive care, in his body there are several hoses attached, and using oxygen cylinders. Instantly the girl became concerned, was it because of this that she asked him to come along with her son this time.

Lintani turned to Askelan and asked, “Do you know about all this, and did not tell me?”

“Why didn't you ask?”

Hearing such a reply, Lintani was closed to hold back her tears from spilling, she took a deep breath to calm her own heart. Then he knelt down by the side of the patient's bed.

“Mother ... I came ...” said Lintani in her soft voice, she rubbed Elliyat's cheek until the woman opened her eyes and smiled. There were no words spoken on his lips other than that smile and looking at the child and daughter-in-law with a happy look.

“Mother, I cook for you, but, can you eat, this way?”

Elliyat nodded, then opened the oxygen cover in her mouth, Lintani helped her.

“Can, let me taste it a little,” Elliyat said in a soft, broken voice.

Lintani complied and fed him a little, the woman smiled and nodded back.

“This is delicious, does Askel also eat it?”

“Ya!”

Elliyat smiled meaningfully again, her eyes showing satisfaction. Then, the woman closed back for a moment and opened up again as she said.

“Let me rest, go y'all to work, I'm satisfied to see you two like this.” Elliyat felt that she was dying, but, not saying anything to Lintani because she did not want the girl to worry.

Lintani re-pairs the oxygen cover, then stands up after believing Elliyat is completely asleep. On his way out, he saw Askelan talking to several doctors who had been handling his mother all this time. Then, give instructions to the guards.

The man looked at her out and immediately grabbed her hand just like that showing his arrogance.

“Come!” he said as he continued walking, followed by Jordan behind him.

The girl was still reluctant to leave the ward because of Elliyat's circumstances, she was both concerned and sad. Plus the disappointment in Askelan for not telling the state of his mother.

“Have you prepared the Jeep I asked for?” ask Askelan without looking at Harrad, who was asked to answer firmly. “Yes! Already ahead, please, Mister!”

The two men accelerated his pace including Lintani, who was unknowingly involved in their affairs. His mind was still fixed on Elliyat, he could not imagine if the woman left then he had no one left, only that woman became his family at this time.

Askelan brought Lintani into the Jeep, and she realized after the large vehicle had already speeded. He looked around him uneasily.

“Get me out of here, I don't want to come with you, wherever your departure is none of my business!”

“Be quiet!”

“For what you brought me there, it has nothing to do with me!”

“I told you, quiet!” askelan said her voice began to drop. It means he's holding back anger.

“Shut up, shut up, you shut up! And put me down now!”

“I just want to take you for a walk, know!”

“I don't want to!” Lintani hits Askelan's shoulder with all her might, which will definitely only feel like an ant bite, she is confused at the thought of her job, and how to tell Shane, even, her mobile number she doesn't have.

Askelan let Lintani hit then, crying regretting her fate. He couldn't keep him on his knees because he was making sure of something, even Jordan didn't know.
