Liberators

Liberators
Chapter 75 - Recovery

Axel couldn't believe what he had just seen.

A nuclear missile had just exploded, and the soldiers inside this submarine were just laughing like it was an interesting spectacle.

None of the soldiers were sad.

Not even one of them mourned for the soldiers who had just died in this operation.

Wh why?

Why are they acting like this?

It was a very clear question drawn on Axel's face.

Captain Asimov who noticed it immediately answered the question.

"Well, I'll give you one thing. We Russians are not the most beautiful and holy people in the world. No. gabe.... But at least, you wouldn't want East Asia to rule." Asimov.

Axel could only be silent. Unable to speak even though he really wanted to do it.

"North America, East Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, even the European Union, are all a bunch of crazy people. Including us, the Russians." Asimov said as he brought his face closer to Axel.

Asimov's eyes looked so full of confidence. It was as if all his words were true as they were.

But before explaining everything, Asimov is seen rubbing Axel's head while talking.

"Rest first. Once your condition recovers, I'll explain everything."

Some of the soldiers are now seen starting to carry Axel's body again. Forcibly take him to the deepest part of this submarine.

Without a single chance to speak, Axel could only thrash around. Trying to get away from all this.

His premonition is so bad on this Russian side.

But what power, the torture he had been through made his body become very weakened.

And for the Russian side, leaving one of these S-level Liberators free, is also quite dangerous.

Hence....

'Jithel!'

One of the soldiers is seen sticking a syringe right around Axel's back neck. The syringe containing the high-dose sedative put him to sleep instantly.

Slowly....

Everything in front of him became dark. And his consciousness disappeared again. I don't know for how long.

......***......

"Law...."

Axel slowly began to regain his consciousness. The view reminds him a little of the fortifications in North America.

It was an iron ceiling with bright white lights.

Beside him, several monitors displaying his various vital conditions could be seen.

"Awake? I'm sorry if my English is bad, but I'm your doctor." Said a man with short brownish hair.

He is seen sitting on an iron chair beside Axel's bed while recording various information in front of him.

Axel's speechless. Not because he didn't want to retaliate, but because Axel knew that his vocal cords had been damaged. Preventing him from speaking.

"Aah, about that. You should have been able to talk back. I put mechanical vocal cords in your throat. It might feel a little bumpy right now, but you'll get used to it for a long time. Try it." The doctor said again.

"aaa. Aaa. Huh huh? Can I talk?" Axel asked himself.

His voice was a little more strange than the one before. But it's much better because now he can talk again.

"good. It might take a little more adjustment to get your voice back to how it was. Now another vital condition...." The doctor said while returning to work.

Axel on the other hand, sensed that there was something a little strange on his body.

As if....

Something is missing.

And it's true. As Axel tried to scratch his itchy back, he could not feel the presence of the Flux machine device on his back.

"Eh? Where's the Flux device on my back?" Axel panicked.

It was that device that gave him incredible strength in battle. Without that device, maybe Axel will return to his cowardly self like before.

But that same device is also a device that takes its age.

Makes her live much shorter than she should.

"I pulled it out."

"Eh? Revoke? Why?"

But hearing Axel's question, the doctor seemed to sigh so long. He knew that the explanation given would be so long.

"Axhel.... I'm afraid to say this but.... Liberators are a failed product of humanity. Trying to transcend human physical boundaries does sound great.

And it was true, a single Liberator could defeat thousands of monsters alone. No one can deny that. But in exchange?" Said the Doctor while pointing towards the monitor beside him.

Axel immediately looked at the monitor. Where is not wrong again, the monitor shows Axel's current body condition.

"This "defective device seizes what is most precious to mankind. Their own lives. Seeing the condition of your body that has suffered such severe cell damage due to Flux, you will die in 2 months. A month longer than if the device was still installed."

Hearing that, Axel was no longer surprised.

He knew his life would end soon.

Might....

Leaving this world was the best gift for him after going through that crazy hell.

But apparently, the world still wants it to suffer a little longer.

"That is, if you choose to accept your death. But if you want to risk your life that soon will be gone, there's a 32% chance that you'll live much longer."

Axel's two eyes began to open wide hearing the statement.

But his sense of delight soon disappeared after remembering the fate of the fort in North America.

If Lucy can make it to East Asia....

Most likely....

"Before that, I wanted to know a few things." Reply Axel who changed the subject.

"of course. Tell me." The doctor replied with a friendly smile.

"What is the fate of North America? If Lucy could be in Osaka, would...."

The doctor seemed to give a confused expression. Not because you don't know the answer, but you don't know how to tell it.

He closed his pen and placed it in his breast pocket before turning silent for several tens of seconds.

Until finally, he decided to answer.

"I hope you stay calm. But just after East Asia brought you to Osaka, the North American fortress in Los Angeles was destroyed by two S-level Liberators from East Asia."

That answer quickly shattered Axel's remaining hopes.

Her sister....

If North America had been destroyed....

Maybe her sister is gone now.

'After I promised to take care of him. Goddamnit! What am I doing?!'

Axel was upset with himself. Subconsciously, tears began to flow profusely soaking his cheeks.

"Hmm? Aaah, about that. Just chill. We have predicted the movement of East Asia and rescued some important figures from Los Angeles. Even though it's almost too late." Obviously the Doctor.

"Eh? What do you mean?!"

"We managed to secure several high-ranking officials in North America such as Oracle, Leona and Frans. Including brother. While your team who escaped from Osaka also managed to save us on the beach.

Unfortunately we failed to secure Lucy at the time because we didn't know where she was. But still, facing A-04 and A-06 in North America is a crazy thing. We had to sacrifice hundreds of soldiers for the operation."

Axel was greatly relieved that most of the people had been saved.

No. gabe....

The saved are only a few humans. What about the other civilians?

Now, Axel's feelings are filled with guilt for feeling so happy after knowing his sister survived. Despite knowing, that thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of others died in the operation.

But one thing made him wonder.

"A-04, A-06, and some time ago, A-01. What do you mean by that code?" Axel asked curiously.

The doctor's answer was far beyond Axel's expectations.

"Aaah, about that? They are S-ranked Liberators from East Asia. From A-01 to A-06, they are all copies of the real Akane. Maybe you recognize her?"

"Eh? A copy?"
