Chapter 19 - Discovery

'Tap 'em! Taps! Aap!'

Axel ran as hard as he could while carrying Eva with both hands. He did not look back at all.

His goal? Only to find a place to hide in order to recover their energy for a moment before returning to fight.

After running for a few minutes, Axel found a gap in the left side of the hallway. The gap was quite small with a staircase leading them to return to the surface of the city.

'Sruuggs!'

Axel lowered Eva's body slowly.

"Thank you. But, you're really fast huh?" Said Eva who started up the stairs after Axel.

"I'm just fast. Doesn't have high physical strength like you." Reply Axel.

At the end of the stairs, the two arrived in the middle of the city street. The scorching sunlight illuminated this dead city. With so many buildings collapsing, as well as abandoned vehicles.

'Kreeek!'

Axel closed the hole that led to the drain. Now, the two of them walked towards one of the ruins of the building.

"Well.... A great deal. They are completely endless." Complain Eva while pulling her waist bag forward.

"You're right. But.... Why haven't I seen them before? I lived on the streets for a few months, you know?" Ask Axel.

"You serious? I saw them a few times in a place with lots of water. But never seen that much in one place."

Eva's reply made Axel think. Were they near the lair of those Lizardmen or something?

As Axel was busy thinking, Eva threw something at him.

'Prukk!'

By reflex, Axel catches an object thrown by Eva.

"Hmm?"

What he caught was a chocolate-coated biscuit Snack. The package is quite thick with red color and picture 2 sticks of chocolate biscuits.

"Eat it, it's pretty good. I really like that product." Say Eva while opening the same Snack.

'Kress! Kraukk! Krauk!'

The sound of Eva biting and enjoying the shadow of the chocolate-coated biscuit made Axel quite tempted. He immediately opened the bag and ate it.

'Kreess! Krau!'

"Hmm?! Is this really good?" Axel said after feeling the soft chocolate that melted in his mouth as well as the crisp biscuits at the same time.

"really right? That's pretty rare, so be happy!" Reply Eva with a big smile.

"Frare? I think the fort made it?" Reply Axel.

"No, I picked it up from a lot of shops along the street. Then keep everything I can get in the fridge at my place of residence."

Unexpectedly, the same thing as usually done by Axel, also done by the soldiers of the Liberator special division. Or Eva to be more precise.

The two rested under the ruins of the building while enjoying their snacks.

After gulping down a quarter of their bottle of drink, the two prepared to head back down. Re-explore the sewer for the second time.

"You ready?" Eva asked Axel.

"Yes, I'm ready." Reply Axel while locking his bow to become a spear.

Both of them walked slowly beside this sewer. Next to the small path, a channel with a fairly heavy flow of dirty water can be seen.

Several times, the two encountered garbage sorters to hold plastic waste and other garbage with large sizes. Where the rubbish will be flowed to a different place.

During the 5-minute journey with the lighting light from the flash on their phones, the two did not see the Lizardmen at all.

They had even walked past the hundreds of corpses of the Lizardmen lying on the ground.

"You're right. There were so many of them before, but there's none of them right now."

Axel began to raise his vigilance in this situation. For some reason, he felt that something was wrong in this place.

"Still have a grenade or something?" Ask Axel back.

"One explosive grenade. Huh.... I should have brought better equipment. Including a helmet with a flashlight on it." Reply Eva.

"Eva. I'll be honest with you." Axel spoke suddenly as soon as he heard Eva's reply.

The words must have surprised Eva a little. The silver-haired woman seemed to open her mouth quite wide. His eyes also widened for a moment before returning to their normal state.

"Eh?! Axels?! What do you mean by that? You know that we...."

"This place feels so awful. Great opportunity, the Lizardmen set up a trap and.... huh? What are you saying?"

The two men were talking to each other. Axel who heard the words from Eva who seemed embarrassed was a little confused.

"Aah, sorry. Please continue." Reply to Eva while turning her face and gaze away. Avoid direct eye contact with the brownish-haired man.

"I think we should go back to the fort first to better prepare ourselves. After that, we'll hunt these fucking lizards back. The Oracle gave us 3 days, didn't it?" Axel.

Eva digests Axel's explanation, now with a slightly cooler head.

After thinking about it for a moment, Eva finally agreed with Axel's suggestion. But with one exception.

"Before returning, what if a little explore this place further? We'll run away soon after seeing the Lizardmen in large numbers." Reply Eva.

"Agreed."

After giving that short reply, the two began to explore.

Three hours passed.

Both of them continuously explore this place while mapping the location on their phones.

However, there was absolutely no sign of the Lizardmen's existence. Making the previous attack was like a dream.

However, when the two decide to return soon before it gets dark....

'Saturray!'

Eva immediately blocks Axel's steps with her left arm and hints him to be quiet. Axel nodded slowly after understanding what the woman meant.

Next to where they were standing, Eva found a new waterway that they had not charted before.

And in the hallway, a reddish-yellow light was seen illuminating a place that should have no light source at all.

In other words, there is only one explanation of all this.

Eva glanced at Axel for a moment and whispered something to him.

"I'll see what's inside. Get ready to take me out after that." Eva's Whisper.

"Understand." Axel replied briefly as well in a whisper.

Slowly, Eva stepped forward. Closer towards the passageway filled with that reddish-yellow light.

Upon arrival right next to the hallway, Eva uses her phone to capture what is inside.

He wasn't stupid enough to put his own head in a place that seemed so dangerous.

After recording the video for a few seconds, Eva pulled back her arm and saw the video for a moment.

What was on his phone screen, was something that he had never thought of in his head at all.

That is a scene, where in a large hallway that holds a lot of garbage and dirty water, thousands of Lizardmen seem busy working on their respective tasks.

With makeshift tools and equipment, the Lizardmen appear to be building an underground settlement.

Axel who also glanced a little at the recording was unable to believe what he saw. And quickly, the two decided to retreat from this place.

Return to the fort to re-prepare their plans.

On a mission, to clean up the remains of monsters in this city.
