Liberators

Liberators
Chapter 28 - Side Effects

'Blueukk! Bluukk!''s!'.

Bubbles began to appear around where He was.

Slowly, Axel began to open both of his eyes. His entire gaze turned greenish, signifying only one thing.

'Well, I'm back here.' Axel thought in his heart after realizing that he had returned to the recovery capsule filled with this green liquid.

But unlike before, there was no one else around. Axel was in this recovery room alone.

'James's.... Is he safe?' Axel asked in his heart.

But there was no way for Axel to know the answer to that question. Other than if someone else came to see him.

It's just....

Several hours had passed without a single person coming to this place.

'Oracle who didn't come just after I woke up, somehow it felt a little strange.' Think Axel.

Thas right.

Normally, the Oracle would come shortly after Axel woke up. But not this time.

Axel was alone in the recovery room with this dim lighting. Without being able to do anything other than to continue to be in a tube full of this fluid.

After a while, boredom began to fill Axel's mind. And he decided to go back to sleep.

But nevertheless....

'Sreeett!'

The door of this recovery room suddenly opened. Unlike his expectations, the one who came was not an Oracle. But a woman with pretty disheveled hair.

It was none other than Leona. A Liberator with a medical field in this fortress.

"Hmm? Are you awake?" Leona asked who was still carrying the clipboard in her left hand.

As soon as Axel realizes he is awake, Leona approaches immediately. Check various vital conditions in Axel's body through several monitor screens next to it.

Axel could only be silent while paying attention to what Leona was doing from behind the glass tube.

After a while....

"Axel, I have a little bad news for you." Leona.

"Mmh?"

"First, the injection of Booster 2 times in a row has damaged many of your cells. Because it's too complicated I'll simplify it into sentences you can easily understand." Obviously Leona.

Axel waited for Leona's next words with a feeling of tension and fear.

And sure enough, his fear was not wrong at all. Because of Leona's answer....

"You only have 2 more years to live."

Axel was surprised not to play. Previously, he was told that he could live for at least 3 years after undergoing the operation.

But now, all of a sudden, his life was cut back by 1 year. Only 1 month after he joined the Liberator special division.

"Honestly, this is a very bad case, as well as hard to believe. You should have died shortly after receiving that second injection, but somehow your cells were able to adapt so quickly to Flux energy.

I know you have a hard time understanding it but, at its core, one thing. Thanks to your cells adapting so quickly your cells are getting thirsty for Flux. That is, Flux Booster will no longer have the same effect on you." Clearly Leona while continuing to stare towards Axel's two eyes.

Even though he had listened to a simple explanation, Axel still could not understand about this.

He could not understand what Leona meant at the moment.

"Mmm?" Axel said while putting on a confused face.

"Well.... Easy, now you need 2 injections of Flux Booster to be able to get the same effect as before. And if you don't inject extra flux once a month, the cells in your body will die.

Still don't get it? In short, your body cells this time become 'addicted' to Flux energy. And it's a new phenomenon that we doctors haven't seen before." Firm Leona.

Even though it was explained twice, Axel still could not understand completely.

Cells become addicted to Flux?

Before Axel asked again, Leona now gives a simpler example.

"Axel, did you drink coffee first?" Ask Leona.

"Mmhhh!" Reply Axel while shaking his head.

"Is that so? But you know after drinking coffee will make you not sleepy, right?" Ask Leona again.

"Mmhhh!" Reply Axel, now nodding his head.

"That's what happens when you rarely drink coffee. For me who always drink 3 cups of coffee every day, I do not get the effect of losing drowsiness as you do.

In fact, if I missed just one cup of coffee every day, my body would feel so tired and powerless. More than those who don't drink coffee. The same effect happened to you. But this time it's not coffee, but it's a very powerful energy that is Flux." Obviously Leona was at length.

This time, Axel really understood what Leona meant.

In other words, his body had now become completely dependent on Flux energy.

And different from coffee, Axel knew well from the start.

Every time he injects Flux Booster....

His life will be reduced by 1 month.

And based on a statement from Leona, Axel had to inject one Flux Booster every month just to keep his dependent body working.

Or Axel will die.

"Hhhhhh!!!" Shouted Axel in surprise after realizing how bad the condition was.

"Yes, I know. So in essence, you don't have 2 years of age. But your age, it's probably less than a year left." Reaffirmed Leona who now refocused on various monitors that.

Axel could only widen his two eyes. He could not believe that this was happening to him.

At first it was very difficult for him to accept the fact that his life was only 3 years left.

But now he knows his life is less than 1 year?

"I know this is hard enough for you, Axel. So Oracle made an offer for you. But you must understand very well that what I am about to say right now is a high-level secret.

Not only dangerous, but this method has not been completely ascertained by us doctors. You still want to hear it?" Ask Leona.

Immediately, Axel nodded his head. Agree to keep this secret.

"alright. I'll explain it to you." Said Leona who immediately walked away.

He walked towards the door and locked it tightly. It is not possible for anyone to enter this room.

Along with that, Leona also dragged an iron chair right in front of Axel. Leona sat in the chair, flipping through the files on her clipboard, before finally explaining everything to Axel.

"In short, we 'maybe' can extend your lifespan. That is by removing the Flux device attached to your spine.

Including doing genetic therapy to restore the effects of cell dependence in your body against Flux. With that, at least you can survive for 5 years.

Instead, since this operation is so dangerous, your chances are high that you'll be paralyzed after that. Probably about a 92% chance you're paralyzed. The remaining 7% is that you survived but with the condition of your physical strength disappeared. And another 1% you're perfectly healed." Obviously Leona.

Hearing all that, Axel seemed a little interested.

What he wanted in this life, was only to take care of his sister. What would it mean if he would die leaving his sister alone without anyone accompanying him?

"Pullied?" Ask Leona.

Axel nodded slowly.

"alright. But before doing that, Oracle hopes that you can do 2 more missions.2 missions that are very important for the survival of mankind.

The Oracle has determined what those 2 missions are for you. And after you get back, if you're still convinced to accept this operation, we'll do it for you so you can rest." Obviously Leona.

With a confident look, Axel nodded his head. He indicated that he would accept the mission.

At least, he could meet the expectations of the 2 parties after that. Liberators to help humanity. As well as from himself to be able to keep accompanying his sister.

"good. For details, me and the Oracle will explain it after you recover."

With that sentence, Leona left Axel in this room. For once again, alone in this dark recovery room.
