Chapter 29 - Mission

Floor B19.

The Main Meeting Room.

'Bsttt!' The big door in this room is open. Behind it, the figure of Axel who had returned wearing his gray uniform walked slowly.

'Tap 'em! Aap!'

His footsteps wearing several metal-coated shoes were heard echoing when they hit the steel floor of this room.

Inside this meeting room, there was only one person other than Axel. The Oracle was standing at the end of the room, looking at some of the data displayed on the projector screen.

Hearing Axel's arrival, the Oracle immediately turned her body.

"You've arrived, Axel. So how?" Asked the short Oracle with his gaze that looked so exhausted.

"I'll run those last 2 missions and then have surgery." Reply Axel who stopped walking, right in front of the Oracle.

Hearing that answer, the Oracle seemed to let out a slight sigh. His face looked so regretful of Axel's choice and tried to persuade him once more. Maybe for the last time.

"You sure? Even if it's a big chance you'll be paralyzed?" Ask Oracle.

"Yes, I'm sure." Axel's reply was brief without any hint of hesitation in the look in his eyes.

Looking at Axel's eyes, the Oracle knew very well. That persuading him is no longer possible.

"It's a pity, but how else. I appreciate your choice. Now, sit down." Said the Oracle who started walking back to her desk.

He appears to be pressing a few keys on his keyboard to change what is projected on the big screen.

Meanwhile, Axel who had been sitting on the iron chair spoke again.

"Who knows about my condition?" Ask Axel.

"It's just me, Leona and Frans. Why?" The Oracle asked back while continuing to fiddle with her computer.

"Can you keep it a secret? Especially with Eva. I don't want to worry him." Reply Axel.

Instantly, Oracle stopped all her work and focused on looking at Axel's face.

Now, the expression from Axel's face only showed one emotion. It's sadness.

"You feel sorry for the man who almost made you and James die?" Ask Oracle.

"That's how. At least, I don't want to make her feel hurt one more time." Reply Axel.

The Oracle was silent for a moment, trying to digest what Axel meant. But in the end, Oracle realized that the request from Axel was not a matter of how much.

And quickly, the Oracle agreed to the request.

"Well, I'll keep it a secret. Including asking Leona and Frans to shut up."

"Thank you." Reply Axel briefly with a smile.

Soon after, the projector screen now began to display different things. It actually displays two maps. This is a map of the United States in California, where the fort is located, and another map showing East Asia.

"Now, we're going to discuss your last assignment." Firmly Oracle while immediately walking away from her work desk.

He appears to be carrying a red laser pointer in his right hand to show some important parts in Axel's mission this time.

Meanwhile, Axel began to take out a small pocket book to begin recording the details of this mission.

"First, the pick-up of relief forces from the East Asia Branch. They will arrive at the airport in about 4 days. Your job is to make sure the plane can land safely." Firmly Oracle while emphasizing an airport on that map.

The Oracle also immediately explained the details of the time of arrival of the plane, as well as the spread of monsters in the region.

But there was one thing different about the mission this time.

"You'll work alone. Your position is at the top of this building, using an arrow to shoot down Wyvern who might be about to storm the plane." Firm Oracle.

By reflex, Axel was surprised to hear about this task. Finally Axel raised his right hand, intending to ask a question.

The Oracle responded with a slight nod of her head.

"on your own? What about Eva? Then, my weapon has been broken and...."

"Just calm down about it. Eva will be placed on the front lines along with the other Liberators, while your evolutionary abilities are perfect for shooting Wyvern down with arrows.

For your own weapons, just calm down. The equipment department will provide you with new weapons. I hope you like it, 'cause it's my design." Reply to Oracle clearly.

After a while of no more questions, the Oracle continued.

To that end, 10 Liberators including yourself will be sent to the East Asia Branch to assist them. Is there a question?" Ask the Oracle again.

"Nothing." Reply Axel briefly.

"Good, you can rest for the next few days. Please go." Reply to Oracle who is now back at work. Do whatever's on that computer.

While Axel himself, currently does not know what to do for the next few days. Wait until the H-day where 4 large aircraft from the East Asia Branch will arrive at this place.

Floor B6

Equipment Department.

Axel came out from behind the elevator door. Within the floor filled with these various weapons and supplies, Axel walked around slowly. Look at the weapons that are in it.

He occasionally picked up a few weapons and tried slowly. Including a large sword, a spear, and a one-handed sword.

But I don't know why....

He had gotten too used to the Spear/Arrow weapon he had previously used.

As if, he no longer felt comfortable with other weapons.

Axel was busy thinking about himself. A bald man suddenly patted Axel on the shoulder. A little surprised him.

"Yoo, rank S. Don't you have an incredible talent for destroying our weapons?" Said the bald man while smiling widely.

"sorry. But the previous enemy...."

"Buahaha! Just kidding! You should just laugh or joke back!" Shouted The man cut off Axel's words.

In his heart, Axel just thought that the joke from the man was not funny at all.

"So how? You like the design of the hybrid weapon?" Ask the man back.

"Hybrid Weapons?"

"Well, you don't know what it's called? A bow weapon that could turn into that spear. We call it a hybrid weapon. You likey?" Ask the guy.

"Aaah, so such a weapon is referred to as a Hybrid. To be honest, it was quite difficult at first to use it, but you were right. I really like those Hybrid weapons." Reply Axel with a face that still remains flat.

'Brahakk!'

Suddenly, the bald man hit Axel's shoulder quite hard. Made the young man slightly pushed forward due to his punch.

"Come with me." Said the Man.

He led Axel somewhere. Passing a few stairs and a security door.

Different from before, this place had never been seen by Axel at all. And behind that big steel door....

It is an armament factory of such a large scale.

This factory produces various things such as uniforms, machine guns, bullets, and weapons for Liberators.

The difference is, Liberator weapons have a much more complicated manufacturing process and utilize a synthetic metal and mineral to produce the best materials currently owned by mankind.

Seeing the atmosphere of the weapon factory which is almost mostly done by this machine, Axel stunned.

"Come on." Said the bald man while leading Axel down the small stairs beside where he stood.

The man led Axel towards a forging site. Where the Liberators' weapons are being made. Including Axel's new weapons.

"Our "metal, Plasteel, is the strongest and lightest metal on earth. But even that metal has trouble breaking through the scales of the abnormal Lizardmen you previously fought against.

So instead, we're transporting the Lizardmen's body to learn the characteristics of its scales and using some of them to create new weapons for you Liberators." Obviously that bald guy.

"New weapons.... From the scales of the Lizardmen?"

"That's how. And this, is your new weapon candidate. Please introduce yourself to the second generation of Hybrid-type weapons. Much stronger, much harder, and much sharper."

Looking at his new weapon, Axel subconsciously made a fairly wide smile on his face.

Even before....

He has been determined to leave the Liberator for good after his last 2 missions.
