Chapter 3 - Mistakes

'Krettakk!'

The small bonfire, made from various papers, twigs and pieces of wood from the surrounding neighborhood, illuminated the residence of the brothers.

They both sit next to the same blanket.

'Trakk!'

The sound of splashing wood and the breaking of branches when burned makes both comfortable. At least, feel safe to stay in this place.

Beside them, a teapot appeared to still be emitting hot steam from its mouth.

"What do you want to eat today?" Axel asked his sister.

"Hm.... Maybe I'll try this rendang meat." Reply Chloe while lifting a can with a picture of the brownish meat.

"alright. Then we'll eat this today."

Axel immediately opened the can and placed it directly over the campfire to heat it up.

Thanks to his abilities, Axel had little resistance to fire. So touching the hot coals for a few seconds was not a problem for him.

But still, for a longer time or a hotter fire, Axel could still get serious injuries.

While waiting....

The two warmed their bodies before the bonfire while reminiscing about their good times before the world was destroyed like this.

"Sister Axel, do you think.... Dad and Mom are quiet up there? Seeing us live in a world like this?" Ask Chloe.

"Stop it. I don't know at all. But at least, I feel like you're a little calm because I'm lucky enough to have this power. The power to protect and protect you." Reply Axel with a faint smile.

After a while, the meat of the rendang seasoning had been quite hot.

Axel lifted the can from the campfire and placed it on the ground, right in front of the two of them.

Meanwhile, Chloe appears to take two iron spoons and give one of them to her brother.

"Good meal. Careful, it's still hot." Axel.

Axel and Chloe finally enjoy the canned meat together. Enough to keep them full until tomorrow.

And after finishing his dinner, the two of them slept together under the small cloth tent.

Her morning....

"Eh? Where are you going?" Chloe asked who was cleaning up the rest of the campfire. He was surprised when he saw Axel started wearing equipment for his trip.

"Walk a little while mapping the movements of the monsters. You wanna come?" Axel asked as he sheathed the sizable blade at his waist.

Chloe thought about the offer for a moment.

It was true, he was afraid to wander in that dangerous outside world.

But being separated from her brother also means she has no protection whatsoever. Even if they hide in this place.

With that thought....

"Well.... I also have no choice but to come with you, right?" Chloe replied with a sigh.

Axel seemed to smile thinly before replying to his sister.

"Hahaha, you got it?"

Both of them started wearing their gear. Includes a mask and a thick jacket.

Unlike the previous, this time Axel aims to go around and map their location. Such as where the minimarket is located to find food, weaponry stores, and so forth.

Including the patrol direction of the monster army.

Once everything was ready, the two crawled out of the hiding place and started walking behind the ruins of this once magnificent city building.

On another occasion, Axel and his sister also obtained a chance to kill the monster patrolling alone.

"Sister, why are we hunting him?" Ask Chloe.

With a confused face, Axel replied.

"You're seriously asking me that, Chloe? Huh.... Of course, it might not have much effect. But I'm hoping a little bit for their numbers to drop and we can move on without having to hide in the future." Reply Axel.

Chloe who listened to him seemed to nod her head as if understanding what Axel meant.

Axel's statement was not wrong at all. But there was also something forgotten about that statement.

That is a fact, that the army of monsters faced by mankind, is not a stupid monster that does not make sense.

Every death of their patrolmen, well marked. Including the pattern of his death.

'Braaaa!!!'

A very strong leg blow made the ground shake. Surprising Axel and Chloe.

"Eh? What's the matter?" Axel asked in confusion.

A moment before Axel could understand it, dozens of green-skinned monster warriors had surrounded him all of a sudden.

They all came down from the roof of the surrounding buildings. As if he had been waiting for Axel to kill the bait of a monster patrolling alone.

'Bruuck! Bruukk!'

Behind everything, a monster with a thick black iron armor walked over while dragging his greatsword.

"Humans.... Kill...." Say a monster 3 meters above that.

'Damn it! Is that true?!' Shouted Axel in his heart. He could not believe that he had just been caught in the trap of these lowly monsters.

It's even worse....

At the moment, Chloe is with him.

'Damn it! Goddamnit! Goddamnit! What should I....'

Before Axel could finish his own thinking, some green-skinned monsters immediately ran. He rushed towards him quickly.

Their weapons were simple, just a rusty knife and a small shield.

But the problem is, their number is more than 20. And Axel has to fight while protecting his sister?

"Sister?!" Chloe shouted in panic.

Quickly, Axel unleashed his power. Blue electricity began to envelop both his legs and right hand.

'Sreeet!!!'

He ran as fast as he could, grabbed Chloe and tried to escape from this place.

'Still can. I can still escape from here. So....'

'Swuuushhh!'

'Braaaka!!!'

Unexpectedly by Axel in the slightest, a punch pointed right at his body. Axel was thrown tens of meters due to the blow.

"Damn it.... Is that true?!"

The punch came from that black iron-armored monster. He stood quietly as if victory had been on his side.

Just from the punch....

Axel's entire body began to numb. He was not a fighter with a physical type, but a magic type. In other words, his physical ability is not so high.

Blood started flowing through his nose and mouth. His consciousness began to disappear.

What he saw last time, was the crowd of green-skinned monsters that seemed to be talking about something with the black-armored monster.

After that....

All the green-skinned monsters looked so happy. Cheering over something that the big monster had just approved of.

And quickly, everyone ran towards Chloe. Prepare to eat it.

"Lookie! Wake up! Get up and run! What the hell are you doing?! Run!!!"

Axel shouted with all his might, with what was left inside his body.

But no matter how much she screamed, Chloe seemed to have lost consciousness. Even when the monsters started to tear off his entire clothes.

"Lookie!!! Lilly!!!" Shouted Axel once again.

Tears started to flow on his face. Axel tried his hardest to get up.

Little by little, Axel began to stand up.

But every time his feet rose, some green-skinned monster stabbed him with a knife. Even so, Axel did not care about it.

He kept trying to stand. His gaze was fixed on the monsters trying to stain his sister. And with mounting anger, Axel no longer cared about his limits.

Axel burned all the Flux energy left in his body. Make it the magic power of lightning.

...'YOOOOOOOOOO!!!'...

A large enough bolt of lightning appeared to hit Axel's body from the sky. It was even large enough to be seen and heard for tens of kilometers from where it stood.

And now, not just his legs and right hand. But his entire body was clad in many flashes of blue-colored lightning.

With his consciousness almost gone, Axel dashed towards the crowd of green-skinned monsters with his big knife.

'Zraassh! Zraassh! Zraasshh!!!'

The movement is no longer able to be followed by the eyes because it is too fast.

In just one blink of an eye, the entire head of the green-skinned monster had been cut off and fell to the ground.

Leaving only those thick black armored monsters.

Axel quickly shot towards the monster. Intended to stick his knife right in his head.

It's just....

'Sreet! Braaakk!!'

The monster hit Axel like a mosquito darting towards him. Slam Axel's body into this concrete road to crumble.

"Amuugghhh!!!"

Axel vomited blood, along with all of his bones being crushed due to that powerful blow.

'Damn it! Goddamnit! Is this the end?!'

His consciousness had now almost disappeared completely. The side effects of his excessive use of power also began to be felt. With skin that feels like it is burning.

'Shelf! Brak!'

On the other hand, the monster walked slowly. Approaching Axel who had been lying helplessly on the ground.

He raised his greatsword with the intention to slash Axel's body.

With that last look, Axel decided to close his eyes. Axel knew he was going to die soon. So did his sister.

In his heart, there was only one regret.

'Dad, Mom, I'm sorry. I can't look after Chloe.'

But just before Axel closed his eyes completely, he saw something happen. The body of the black-spirited monster seemed to split into two easily.

A sea of blood flowed from his split body.

It's just, Axel knows. That all this, was just a dream after he was killed. And with that, Axel closed both of his eyes. The electricity that enveloped his body disappeared along with the loss of consciousness.

In the same place....

A woman in a gray military uniform was standing right before Axel's body.

His silver hair that was tied moved to and fro along with the direction of the wind.

In his right hand, a large sword with blue light flowing down the upper side of the sword seemed to be tightly grasped.

"Currently, am I late?" Said the woman after seeing Axel's unconscious figure.

He brought his face closer to hearing Axel's breath and also placed two of his fingers on Axel's neck.

"Aaah, still alive. Mercifully. What about the girl?" Ask the woman.

He walks slowly to make sure that Chloe is also still alive. Just unconscious.

After making sure the two were still alive, the woman placed her greatsword on her back. Bind it with a metal that looks like a lock.

The woman then raised Axel and Chloe's bodies together with both hands. Leaning the two on his shoulders was easy.

"Elector just now.... Don't tell me it was caused by this kid? Haha.... It's true, you can always find a diamond in a shanty place like this." She said while looking at Axel.

After that, he jumped high enough to reach the ruins of the building above and began to run.

Heading to one of the Liberator organization's secret headquarters in the next town.

An organization, which becomes a fortress as well as a last hope for mankind.
