Liberators

Liberators
Chapter 20 - Back to the Fort

Main Fort, North American branch

Floor B19

Meeting Room

"What did you say? Lizardmen's lair?" Ask the Oracle in confusion.

It's only natural that the Oracle doesn't believe that. Because all this time, they had never seen the settlements of monsters in this world.

Since the destruction of mankind, most of the monster army was pulled back to return to their dimension. Through 12 giant portals created by mankind a few years ago.

Knowing that there are actually people who make settlements on earth?

"That's the truth. Eva recorded a video of the nest." Reply Axel calmly.

Hearing that answer, the Oracle immediately turned her gaze to Eva. He made a gesture to show the video to her.

Now, in the 3-person meeting room, Oracle is playing video from Eva's phone on a large projector screen on the front.

He looked at all the details of the video carefully. Without a little that is missed.

Her lips seemed to be constantly talking, but there was no sound that Axel and Eva could hear. Similarly, the gaze of his eyes that continue to move around quickly to pay attention to all the details.

After Oracle replayed the video 8 times, it finally stopped. Lean on his chair while closing his eyes.

"Good work, you two. Thank goodness you can still survive and return to this fortress. Tonight, you can rest before you return to discuss this mission tomorrow." Firm Oracle.

"Understand." Reply Axel and Eva simultaneously.

The two also walked together. Left this military headquarters to return to their apartment.

On the way....

"Hey, Axel. Do you want to eat first?" Eva asked while pointing at the 2nd floor inside the elevator.

"Aah, you're right. We haven't eaten since this morning, have we? Just eat a light Snack. All right, I'm coming." Reply Axel.

Hearing the reply, Eva immediately pressed the button with the number [2] on the elevator. Which is the main canteen at this military headquarters.

On the other hand, Axel seems to pick up his phone and send a short message to his sister.

[I'll eat at headquarters with a friend and go home pretty late. You go to sleep first.]

Not long after, a reply from Chloe arrived.

[Okay, Brother. I pulled the front door key.]

A thin smile appeared on Axel's face after reading a reply from his sister. As long as he could see his sister living comfortably within this fortress, that was enough for him.

Now it's....

'Ding!'

The elevator door was open. The two arrived at the 2nd floor of this military headquarters. The floor where the canteen is located.

Dozens of other soldiers in black uniforms appeared to be enjoying their dinner.

As long as included in the military, all are free to enjoy the dishes in this canteen a maximum of 3 times a day.

A system that provides a great incentive for anyone willing to join the military.

Eva and Axel walked towards one of the stalls in this cafeteria.

"Is there any good food advice?" Eva asked with a friendly smile.

"Miss Eva. Welcome back. For today, we recommend grilled meat with tomato soup along with onion bread." Reply to the staff at the cafeteria kiosk.

"Okay, I'll take that. What about you, Axel?" Ask Eva.

"Then, just like Eva." Reply Axel.

The two immediately left the stall and sat down at a small table with two chairs.

The two talked about various light topics while waiting for their dishes to be served. But for Axel who is still fairly new in this fort, there are some questions that are still stuck in his head.

"The other Liberators, they never eat here?" Axel asked after noticing the entire area of this canteen only contained soldiers in black uniforms.

"No. They always eat here. It's just, it's usually a lot more night." Reply to Eva while playing the iron fork.

"Is that so? Is.... They're all strong?" Ask Axel again.

"of course. Though not as strong as I am, hahaha!" Reply Eva confidently while laughing loosely.

Eva's answer made Axel realize something. Both of his eyes appeared slightly widened after hearing that answer.

"So that's why you always work alone before you're with me?" Ask Axel.

"Not always. I started working alone about 4 months ago when my partner was gone." Reply Eva remained with a smile on her face.

It was a little annoying for Axel.

Say someone is gone with a smile? Isn't that a little weird?

But before Axel could answer him, Eva had already continued her words.

"Well.... I remember that stupid girl named Audrey. Know it? He didn't even dare to swing his sword." Eva continued, but now while turning her eyes in the distance.

No longer have the courage to look Axel in the eye directly when talking about it.

Of course Axel was a little sorry for asking Eva that question. That might slightly bring up the old wound in his heart.

"sorry. I didn't mean to...."

"Haha! Doesn't matter! After all, this is our life. Either die at the hands of the enemy, or die from running out of time. The two are not so different for me." Eva interrupts Axel's apology.

A moment later, the clerk from the previous cafeteria stall came to bring the order of the two of them.

They each had two plates and a bowl. One contains a piece of grilled meat, another contains 3 toast with an onion aroma, and lastly a medium-sized bowl containing the reddish-colored tomato soup.

"Drink?" Asked the employee kindly as he continued to put the orders of the two of them on the table.

"Orange juice." Reply Eva briefly.

"I'm cold water." Reply Axel.

"Please wait." Reply to the officer with a friendly smile. He immediately walked back to his stall to prepare the drinks of the two of them.

Meanwhile, Axel is seen tearing the toast with his hand before dipping it in the tomato soup.

The taste of the tomato soup is slightly sour but also sweet, and the savory and warm onion bread was mixed when it entered Axel's mouth.

"It's really delicious." Axel said after eating the bread.

"Don't forget your meat! That's the best part of this dish!" Reply Eva with great enthusiasm.

Eva on the other hand ate her dish with a knife and fork. He would cut the bread with his knife and dip it in the tomato soup with his fork before eating it.

It's just that, somehow the roast has disappeared without Axel noticing.

Axel who saw how fast and happy Eva when enjoying the dish made her smile unconsciously.

"Why shut up? You don't want that meat? Then just for me, right?" Said Eva who had pierced the roasted meat on Axel's plate with her fork and immediately put it in her mouth.

"Eh? Wait first! What's the point of asking permission if you eat it right away?" Axel panicked. The smile on her face immediately disappeared due to Eva's actions.

"Haha! Looks like you're not so fast on the dinner table, are you?" Reply Eva while putting on a face that seemed full of the sense of victory.

Axel was no longer able to speak. He can only do one thing.

That is to protect the rest of her toast that has started to become the next target for Eva.
