New Sheets

Jean never expected that he would meet Uncle Hull's wife and daughter. It's a very pleasant coincidence. Or maybe destiny? I don't know. Clearly, luck was on Jean's side.

They walked together towards Uncle Hull's residence and chatted along the way. Cassie asks why Jean wants to visit her husband, but Jean replies that it's all she'll explain to Uncle Hull.

"By the way Jean is, are you alone in this town? Where's your father and your mother? It's not good for a kid to go around this town alone."

Jean smiles. At least outside. In his heart, he felt an immeasurable pain. He wants to be angry but Jean understands that it's not Cassie's fault to ask that question. Cassie was right, anyway. It is not good for a child as small as he is in the city unaccompanied by an adult.

"My parents are very busy. So they can't keep me company. Aunt Cassie doesn't have to worry, as you can see, I'm strong enough to beat a grown-up?"

Cassie laughed awkwardly. He saw for himself how Jean had defeated the men who had gathered themselves and Cahrlotte. It may be pointless to worry about Jean, but her maternal instinct does not allow her to do so.

"Anyway, let's hurry. Hull is a bit busy but maybe he will take his time for you. Ah right too. Where did you know Hull?"

"Father is a farmer in the village. When I first went to town with my dad, he introduced me to Uncle Hull. We talked quite long. He's a fun guy."

"Oh yeah? It was the first time anyone had ever said that my husband was such a fun person. How delightful. Fufufu."

Jean also laughed. She felt the warmth of a mother from Cassie. Little by little, Jean gets comfortable with Cassie. The one who was in a bit of trouble was Charlotte. But Jean didn't think much of it.

The sun has reached its peak when Jean, Cassie, and Cahrlotte have arrived at Uncle Hull's house. Cassie and Charlotte go in first before Jean follows them both from behind.

"Where's Hull? Is he still talking to his business partner?"

Cassie asked one of the employees who worked at Uncle Hull's house. He said uncle Hull was still talking to his business partner but soon he would be done.

"Then Jean, will you wait in the living room? Ah listen, your stomach is ringing. You haven't had breakfast? I'll have one of the waiters bring you some food so just wait there okay?"

Ah, Jean's a little embarrassed. During the trip here, he only ate twice. He had not had breakfast this morning because his stomach was not hungry. But that hunger is attacking him now.

Jean obediently waited in the living room. One of the servants came to him and brought Jean a meat loaf and orange juice. Jean ate so well that her stomach felt full. He's full now.

"Hi Jean's. We meet again. How's it going? Are you all right? And what about your father? His injuries have improved.

"There's something I want to talk to you about, Uncle Hull."

Uncle Hull was a little confused. But he nodded and sat down in front of Jean along with Cassie beside him. At that moment, Jean began to tell him about everything that had happened. About the fate of the village and his family, including his father.

Throughout listening to the story, Uncle Hull clenched his hands very hard. Jean can clearly feel the rage raging within Uncle Hull. And that anger really reached its end when he heard that Nicholai died from not being able to heal from the wounds he had suffered.

While Cassie, she covered her mouth with her palm. Her tears flowed profusely when she heard the tragedy that Jean had experienced. Jean is just an eight-year-old boy who should be able to live happily like any other child. But why did bad fate happen to Jean? Why is the world so harsh on an eight-year-old?

Driven by her maternal instinct, Cassie hugs Jean gently. Maybe to calm Jean down. Jean is calm because of the treatment and affection shown by Cassie.

"I'm sorry Jean. If at that time I had known earlier that the Knights were going to take the children, I wouldn't have been too late to save you and Nicholai."

"It's not uncle's fault. They are the ones who committed that sin. Thank you for bringing my father back to the village."

Uncle Hull shook his head. Losing your family at the age of eight is the hardest pressure on a child's soul. If you can, Uncle Hull wants to do something for Jean. At least so that the guilt in him does not haunt him.

"Then uncle Hull....Can I ask you something?"

"Hmmm? Say, Jean. I can grant your request if it's still within my means."

"I want to ask for uncle's job. Whatever it is. I can read, write, and count. I can also do household things like cleaning the house or cooking. And I have pretty good martial skills. So whatever it is uncle, please, give me a job!"

Jean prostrates herself in front of Uncle Hull. Uncle Hull and Cassie looked at each other. For them, it was not natural for an eight-year-old boy to go through a job. They should play with their friends and spend their time having fun.

"Bless your head, Jean. Alright. Cassie and I will give you a job. From tomorrow, be Charlotte's personal servant. You will also be a guard for him. I'll pay you 2 Van silver coins and 50 Van copper coins in a week. How about that?"

Jean raised her head. His eyes sparkled and his face described happiness. Uncle Hull and Cassie laughed. Jean has always looked mature at this young age. But now he looks like a kid his age who gets gifts from his parents.

And that way, Jean's new life sheet has been opened.
