The Story of Sammamah and the Exemplary Goodness of the Prophet
Apologizing is a very noble job. By forgiving the mistakes of others, there will be an impressive life, as told in the book of Acts of the Exemplary of the Prophet and the Pious.
At that time there was a charismatic ruler from the Hunaifiyyah Kabilah called Sammamah, who managed to capture Muslims. Sammamah was arrested by the Muslims for killing many of the followers of the new religion taught by the Prophet of SAW.
Before being detained, Sammamah was first faced with the Prophet to determine what decision to take. After seeing the state of Sammamah the Prophet did not comment much and only said.
Treat him well! Rasulullah. After that, immediately the friends who were around him immediately brought Sammamah to the detention location.
In the detention room, the Sammamah is very greedy when eating. The Sammamah can devour all 10 people's food rations at once without feeling guilty. The behavior of the new captive was conveyed to the Prophet.
Again the Prophet did not comment much and the Prophet went to his wife's room and said, Today I have a guest who is eager to eat. Serve him all the food you've prepared!
After receiving the meal provided by the Prophet's wife, Sammamah brushed off all the food served to him. The Prophet and the starving family refused to eat. This happened for several weeks, but the Prophet remained kind to the Sammamah even though the Sammamah only ate, drank, and slept.
In addition to providing food, the Prophet also always pay attention to the development of the Sammamah condition. Whenever he met the Prophet, Sammamah always said, Muhammad! I killed your men. If you want revenge, just kill me, he said in a high tone. Hearing those words, the Prophet did not say much and just looked at his interlocutor with a slight smile.
Seeing the attitude of the Prophet Muhammad as such Sammamah grew arrogant and again said, However, if you want a ransom, I am ready to pay as much as you want, he said.
As the situation was, the Prophet only listened to his words and did not say a word. A few days later, the Prophet freed Sammamah so that he was free to go anywhere.
Then, he sat on the sand and still remained in disbelief, why did the captive man not treat himself harshly, even though he had killed many of the Messenger's companions. After some time thinking about the good attitude of the Apostle, he went back to the residence of the Prophet and declared his conversion to Islam.
After converting to Islam, Sammamah spent several days with the Prophet and then went to Mak kah to visit the Kaaba.
Arriving there, Sammamah declared in a loud voice, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.
Makkah was still under the rule of the Quraysh. People approached him and surrounded him. Swinging swords were lurking around his head and neck.
One of the crowd said, Don't kill him! Don't kill him! He is a resident of Imamah. Without the food supply of Imamah we will not live.
Sammamah chimed in, But that's not enough! You have tortured Muhammad often. Go and apologize to him and make peace with him! Otherwise, I will not allow one grain from Imamah to enter Makkah, he said.
Sammamah returned to his hometown and he completely stopped the supply of wheat to Makkah. The danger to the field threatens the people of Makkah. The inhabitants of Makkah made a plea to the Prophet, O Muhammad! You are commanded to do good to your relatives and neighbors.
We are your brethren, will you allow us to starve to death in this way?
At that time, the Prophet wrote a letter to Sammamah, asking him to lift the ban on the supply of grain to Mecca. The Sammamah willingly obeyed the order.
