Enemy In Blanket

Saiyidina Ustman ibn Affan was appointed Caliph after Saiyidina Umar ibn Khattab was killed by the enemy in a blanket of hypocrites. At that time the situation was still hit by upheaval and unrest. With firmness of attitude and wisdom Saiyidina Othman the atmosphere of government can be safely controlled by the gentle Caliph. Many followers of other religions come to convert to Islam. One of them was a young Jew from Yemen named Abdullah bin Saba'.

But it turns out Abdullah bin Saba' has another purpose behind embracing Islam. He hoped that the Caliph as the ruler of the country would give him honor. So Abdullah bin Saba went to Medina. He asked permission to confront the Caliph. After being allowed he expressed his desire to be given a high position in one of the minted positions in any field. But Saiyidina Othman refused and said "I am only a servant of the people. I was made Caliph not by my will, not even by the agreement of the other Companions."

Saiyidina Othman said again "Don't you know that the post is not an honor but a trust." continued the Caliph again "Whether the master is willing to assume the mandate while the master has just embraced Islam and more than that does not deserve a position of being asked or desired, because Allah is the one who gives or deprives a person of his position."

Abdullah bin Saba' came out with a dark feeling. He had struggled to convert to Islam and then traveled far in hopes of gaining flattery and a high post, but found it to be only advice and reprimands. Since then Abdullah bin Saba' has held grudges against the Caliph, Muslims and the Islamic religion. He was determined to destroy Muslims and disrupt their teachings.

So Abdullah ibn Saba' went around whispering while sowing slander to the people saying that the rightful heir and Caliph was Saiyidina Ali ibn Abi Talib. Part of the community has been affected by such incitement that they have established a group called the Saba'iyah Shiites who are now Shiites.

For the rotten slander spread by Abdullah bin Saba' so he dared to say "Verily the Prophet of Allah's choice is Ali ibn Abi Talib. It was only by chance that the angel Jibrail was so sleepy that the revelation of Allah was given to Muhammad who was an unworthy person."

Hearing such poisonous news Saiyidina Ali bin Abi Talib was very angry and when he was appointed the fourth Caliph replaced the Saiyidina Caliph Othman bin Affan on his orders Abdullah bin Saba' expelled from Medina.

One day a Jew came to see the Prophet S.A.W because he wanted to claim his debt. But the way the Jews came to demand their debt was very rude. As soon as the Jew approached the Prophet he continued to scowl the Prophet's clothes and said: 'O descendants of Abdul Mutalib, you are indeed from a class of people who like to overcome debt ''

The rude attitude and disrespectful speech of the Jews was very, very hurtful Syaidina Umar bin Khattab who was with the Prophet at that time. With violence. Because his angry feelings were so overflowing Syaidina Umar continued to strangle the Jew.

The Prophet was surprised by Syaidina Umar's attitude, because he could not control his feelings. Even though, the face of the Prophet of Islam was imagined his anger but he could control the feeling. Then he said to Syaidina Umar: O Umar, me and him, have more decent business. Let us both finish it and do not mix it up. The best of you tell me to pay the debt well and have him claim the debt well too. Actually I still have three more days to pay the debt''. So he ordered Syaidina Umar to pay his debt by giving the Jews twenty bushels of grain in return for Syaidina Umar being rude to the Jews.

When the Jew saw this, suddenly the words came out of the mouth of the Jew, saying: O Umar, these are prophetic signs. I have been able to see the signs reflected in the room the face of the prophet s.a.w. when I look at his face. I really wanted to know if he was a prophet. That's why I tested him to find out if he was a man of high character and forgiving. Witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.''

Such was the influence of nature and patience of the Prophet s.a.w to cause the Jews who wanted him to open their hearts to embrace Islam.
