Usually what does a person want the most after finally meeting the most anticipated mate? The answer must be between hugging tightly or directly grasping each other's hands, can also be more than that, because the mate bond is always associated with the desire to be close to his soul mate.
But Grace felt none of the above except anger and betrayal. Knowing if the mate is this close only means one thing. His mate doesn't want it as much as he wants them to meet soon and forge a bond that just happens.
Grace clenched her hand tightly so as not to directly hit Stefan. Even though she's prepared to take the risk, that doesn't mean Chloe will do the same. Grace is unlikely to get the woman into trouble because of her again.
He then let out a slow breath and smiled. "Hello, Stefan. Thank you for welcoming us."
"We also thank you for providing leniency for our offense." Chloe connected her words calmly, relieved that Grace had not done anything bad after she saw him clench his hands. Usually such a fist ends up being a fight.
Stefan didn't think it was possible either, as Grace did nothing to him, but smiled. "It's okay. I should thank you for offering to accept the punishment and help our group."
Lilian who was next to him smiled widely and nodded. It was good to see the intimacy that was immediately established between them.
"Because there's nothing I can say now, I'm leaving so Lilian can take you to your room." Stefan nodded towards his sister before looking at Grace and Chloe. "Tomorrow I will introduce you to the herd. Have a good rest."
"certain. See you, Stefan."
"See you again." Grace gave her best smile until Stefan looked shudder, but still returned his smile.
Lilian instantly took over when her brother was already walking towards the forest, but Grace was still staring at the man. Stefan seemed to notice her gaze and made a gesture for her to catch up with him after they finished cleaning up the items.
"Come, Grace."
"Yes." Yeah."
Grace immediately caught up with them without looking back at the man again.
.
"This is your room. There are bathrooms and kitchens as well, the groceries will be divided evenly every once a month, so if there is less you can add yourself yes." Lilian explained as you entered one of the empty houses. "Hopefully you can be comfortable immediately, consider it a temporary house for three months."
Grace held back a smile. After all, this house would indeed be their resting place during the punishment period, so she and Chloe had no choice but to make themselves safe. Although the house, or room, given Lilian already looks worthy to be occupied.
"Are we the only ones staying in this house for the next three months?"
Lilian nodded. "We have no other members living here. The previous members have long since died, so you don't have to worry if anyone suddenly comes and asks why you're here." He immediately connected his words as soon as he saw their gazes. "Oh, it doesn't mean that anyone would break in if you locked the door. We really appreciate privacy."
"Alright, thanks for the explanation, Lilian. We'll clean things up first."
"Either. Good luck and see you tomorrow!"
"Yes, I'll see you tomorrow."
Grace and Chloe immediately unpacked the items and arranged them to their respective places with little to say. They were already quite tired after serving restaurant customers and walked far enough to get to this house.
"It looks like we shouldn't miss training here either."
Grace nodded, agreeing to his words. "Every morning and after we return to this house. Good thing the kitchen in this house doesn't have a table or a chair."
"Are we in the woods?" Chloe recalled the greatness of the forest that Stefan had entered before. "It looks like there will be enough room for training there, even if we have to ask him for permission first."
"You'll be alone then."
Chloe sighed then lay on her bed. The bag was neatly folded in the closet, along with their clothes and amulets. Grace was still busy tidying up her messy stuff because it was put in with the origin.
"I slept first. When you're done, please turn the lights off, Grace."
Chloe fell silent, seemingly wanting to ask her about her goal, but did not continue because she was already sleepy. "Alright, careful. Remember, we're not in the herd's territory."
"I knew. Good night, Chloe."
The woman muttered long and began to fall asleep. Grace was still arranging her belongings for a while before reaching for the key, turning off the lights and walking out into the forest that Stefan entered.
.
Stefan kept waiting in the forest, waiting for his death– Grace–'s wrath with resignation. The sight of the woman at the beginning of their meeting had already given her enough warning. Grace obviously wanted to beat him up on the spot if only there was no one else but them.
He had already walked into the forest deep enough that it was not close to the herd housing. The man had already made sure no one else was nearby so the conversation between them was safe. Otherwise, he'll cancel the conversation about the herd matter to Grace.
"Not enough to deceive me, now you also dare to make me tired?"
The man immediately turned to Grace and smiled, erasing the trace of thought from the look on his face. "Hello, Grace, we meet again."
Grace seemed to be out of breath as she walked faster than usual, without changing. It seemed that he did not want to wake up the herd with the sound of his steps if it ran straight or picked up his clothes back if it changed in form. Stefan unconsciously looked at her carefully, for a while, to make the woman become uncomfortable.
"Stop looking at me like that."
Stefan shifted his gaze while clearing his throat. "Sorry, I can't help myself. I'm glad .. because I finally got to talk to you."
Grace clenched her hand again. "Then why did you hide yourself before? Did you not want my existence before?"
The man was silent. "That's true, but more because of my own selfishness. It's not your fault."
"Of course not, I didn't even know you before."
They were silent, standing face to face at a considerable distance. Stefan tried to restrain himself from approaching Grace and hugging her as he had once imagined. That woman would definitely not like such an act.
"So how long have you known?"
"From the beginning of the transformation, but I realized your existence three years ago. We met in a shopping mall."
"I don't remember it."
Stefan smiles. "That's natural, I just saw you from afar without having time to cross paths with you—"
His speech was suddenly interrupted when he realized that someone else was close enough to them, barely touching his radar, but he could still feel it. It seemed like their meeting had to end sooner.
"What's wrong?"
Stefan did not answer her question and instead walked up to her, Grace did not have time to move away because the man grabbed her hand and whispered in her ear. "Tomorrow I'll explain everything to you. Afternoon. We're going to the shopping mall."
"OKAY. I get it." Grace immediately replied without asking, she just stared fixedly at Stefan until the man wanted to kiss her. "I don't want to be kissed."
"I knew. Sorry." Stefan looked at Grace back and squeezed her hand gently. "Thank you for understanding, Grace."
"I haven't forgiven you. Keep your promise first, if you want."
"certain. I'll remember it well."
Grace let go of the braid of their hands and walked back towards the house. Stefan stared at the woman's departure along with an unknown figure.
