"Mom, where are we going?" ask me as we walk down the shoulder of the road.
Mom was silent before answering. As I looked at her face, I could see the unease she was trying to hide. Mom had never been like this before, especially before dad suddenly disappeared and we started to move in for a short time. He was always gentle and carefree, not this kind of wrath.
"Mother?" ask again.
"Oh... What's up, Ally?" my mother asked, finally looking at me.
"Where are we going?"
"We're going to the house of my friend, Ally," she replied. "He's a friend of the mother's from university, a long time ago."
I nod my head. "It's a long way away, ma'am?"
"No, we're here."
We stopped the step in front of the door which on one side was attached an ancient chandelier. Mom pressed the bell and not long after a little boy older than me opened the door.
"Hello, who do you want to meet?" her tananya was polite with a carefree tone.
"Hello, I want to meet Lucy, is she there?" ask mom.
"So, wait a minute. Go ahead, just come in, you can sit inside."
After saying that he immediately turned around and entered his house. My mother took me into the house and sat down on one of the couches, her hands clasping my hands tightly as if she didn't want to let go.
I looked around me curiously. Pay attention to a spacious room with little furniture, but looks comfortable and does not look 'empty'. There is a large painting depicting a garden as well as small ornaments that decorate the table. There is a piano that seems to have not been in the corner of the room for a long time.
A few minutes later the girl returned with a drink and a snack. A brown-haired female figure, with a white canal combined with a knitted black bolero, followed behind.
"Welcome, sorry--" she was interrupted when she looked at my mother. "Mails?"
"Hey, Lus.... It's been a while?" my mother said with a smile on her lips. "How are you?"
He ignored my mother's question and instead walked up to her, touched her shoulder, and looked at my mother as if he could not believe what she was seeing. She looked like she had just seen a ghost when she looked at my mother.
His forehead wrinkled. "Is this really you?"
My mother chuckled softly. "It's me, Lus. I'm real."
Mom's friend looked back at her face and hugged my mother tightly. His shoulders look shaky.
"Gosh, Mel! I miss you so much" he said quite loudly after letting go of his embrace. "Where have you been? You haven't told me this long, calling you can't either. It's been almost five years...."
Mom laughed at the words her friend had made. "Sorry, I didn't get to. I've been so busy taking care of my kids for a few years."
"Kids?"
My mother nodded, she pulled me gently from behind her body and showed me in front of her friend. "It's Ally."
My mother's friend looked at me, watching me slowly go back to hiding behind my mother's body. I don't know why I always feel uncomfortable if it's noticed like that. "Hi, Ally. Greetings know.." said the mother's friend with a small smile.
I hesitantly returned the smile, but did not return the greeting.
"Sweet kid, similar to you back then?"
My mother smiled in response.
Mom's friend turned her eyes back to my mother and invited us to sit on the available sofa. He also offered my mother and I to taste the drinks and pastries.
"So, did you come here without any news?"
I felt my grasp tighten before I replied, "I'm here to leave Ally while here, can I?"
"You want to go again?"
Mother nodded. "There's a very important affair that I can't afford to miss."
"Where?"
"I can't tell you, Lus. Sorry."
My mother's friend fell silent, her eyebrows furrowed again when she looked at my mother. From the look on her face, she looked like she wanted to know what mother was thinking, but then the aunt sighed. His hand stretched out to touch one of the mother's hands and squeezed it slowly.
"You know "doesn't you, Mel?" said slowly. "I've taken you as the little sister I've always had to protect. If there's a problem you're facing, just say it, don't hesitate."
My mother nodded her head again, a sad looking smile on her lips. "Thank you, Lus."
My mother's friend sighed again and returned my mother's smile. "Alright, you can leave Ally here" he said. "How long have you been there?"
"I don't know either...."
The aunt shook her head, the look on her face showing that she was getting upset by my mother's closed-off nature. "alright. I just hope that your business is resolved and take care of yourself. Don't push yourself."
"Yes, of course."
His mother and friend got up from their seats and walked towards the door. I who was still held by him followed behind them. I looked at my mother who was slowly lowering herself so that it was in line with my eyes. He looked at me gently, both of his hands clasping my hands tightly. "Allison, I'm leaving first. Be a good boy while you're gone."
"Where are you going? I can't come?"
"Can't be darling, mom's journey is quite far from here. You just wait here with your aunt, okay?"
I frowned and closed my mouth. I felt very uncomfortable, as if what my mother said would not end well. Mother's face also looked grim even though she tried to convince me with her gaze.
Mom suddenly pulled me into her arms and kissed me on my forehead. "Don't forget what my mom said. See you, Ally."
My mother gave me her gentle smile before standing back up and starting to step away, not once looking back to look at me. I could only see my mother's long hair swaying slowly due to the wind and her clenched hands.
~▪︎~▪︎~▪︎~
Dark, that's what I found after opening my eyes.
It took me a long time to adjust my eyes to the dark without any light. I turned around and found nothing but three sides of the wall and a silhouette of a fence right in front of me.
I tried to move my hand from behind my back, but I couldn't. Something tightly knitted him using a thick rope. Both my legs were also experiencing the same thing, while my mouth was covered in something that seemed to be a cloth twisted and tightly tied.
I blinked my eyes repeatedly to focus my gaze and began to realize that I was in a cell, with a musty smell and water droplets from one of the walls. When he opened his eyes again, a man was at the door of the cell and looked at me. I could only return her gaze as she opened the cell door and approached me, opening the thread in my mouth and legs.
"What are you doing?" I asked when he hooked one of my arms and took me walking, my legs felt so stiff. I don't know how long I've been here, but it seems like it's been a while..
He didn't answer.
I could only fall silent and follow him up the stairs to a door that led to another passageway I did not know.
"Where do you want to take me?" I want to break the silence again.
He still did not answer.
We were about to arrive at another door full of perfectly twisted carvings, he easily opened the heavy-looking door and revealed a magnificent looking room with a faint golden luster inside.
"What room is this?" manya curious. This room looked very different from the previous room that seemed somber.
He's staying quiet.
I turned towards him, looking at the man who kept walking beside me as if I had never spoken to him.
"Are you mute?"
My question this time finally came to fruition. She turned her head towards me with her eyebrows linked, whereas I looked at her face with an interested look. I don't know why his face reminds me of someone I know.
"I'm not mute." His voice sounded hoarse.
"Why didn't you answer my question?"
She's speechless. "It's a hall."
"That's not what I mean."
"Then what?" he asked, his face looked very confused.
"Why didn't you answer my question before?"
He was silent again, seeming to think quickly. "Because I don't think it's necessary."
"But-"
He cut my words. "We've arrived."
I looked back to the front and found another door that looked exactly the same as the previous door was in front of me.
"What room is this?"
He returned not answering. One of his hands was currently busy pushing the door that seemed heavier than the previous door, visible from his frown and the time lag to open it longer.
I stared at the new room that was now in front of me. The room was smaller than the previous room but had the same majestic impression, there were two pillars on the right and left of the room, leading to a stage with two benches that looked like a throne. One of them was already occupied by someone who was looking at me with a powerful look.
"I've brought it, miss," said the man who carried me as he bowed to her.
"You can go, Hans."
He leaned back and left the room without saying anything.
I looked at the man on the throne with a fixed look, the woman had cotton-white skin and a tiny face was also a little thin, his lips formed a straight line as his strange purple-colored eyes stared back at me.
He smiled as soon as he stood right in front of me. "Welcome to my manor, Allison Cartwraight. I'm Whitney McClain, greetings."
"Who are you?" many quick. I felt a bad feeling when he was near me.
"I'm Whitney, the owner of this manor."
"Why did you bring me here? I don't know you." I asked again, my body began to tremble as it inhaled a sickening sweet scent from her.
He shakes his head a little. "Well, of course to meet you."
"I don't understand." I shook my head in shock when I felt an ice-cold breath suddenly feel very close to the intersection of my neck.
"You smell so bad, no more wrong," he muttered to me puzzled. "I didn't think you were the heir, a plain girl who didn't know anything."
The woman touched my cheek which once again made me squeak uncomfortable, her finger very cold. "What are you doing?" I asked when I could feel her cold breath rubbing my neck.
"Hm, this is not exciting" he said suddenly and then looked at me. "Do you know who I am?"
I shook my head, inwardly feeling grateful that at least she let me walk away from her. I didn't like the smell and his behavior sniffing the intersection of my neck made me very uncomfortable.
He seemed to be silent for a while, seemingly thinking seriously. "Alright, it doesn't feel fair to finish this war so easily" he murmured almost inaudibly.
I close my mouth, my feelings become very uncomfortable at this moment. My eyes still looked at him who was still where he stood. My hands began to twitch trying to release the rope that began to feel very disturbing. I gotta get out of here.
"When we meet again, Allison. Nice to meet you."
In one heartbeat, his face suddenly returned to the intersection of my neck. I couldn't react when something sharp scratched my neck quickly and deeply. I screamed in pain as something flowed through my blood and everything turned dark.
