Give Me Your Hand's
Kenan and Deniz

The Istanbul Hospital

Ivy rubbed her tears and exhaled her breath vigorously as she was about to enter Deniz's room. The room consists of four single-size beds facing each other. Each bed was filled with children. They are about five to twelve years old with various types of cancer they suffer from.

The green-eyed bead stared from a distance at a small child sitting on a white bed. A children's reading book was in his hands.

Ivy steps her feet towards Deniz's bed.

"Hi, little hotshot." Deniz immediately raised his face as soon as he heard Ivy's voice.

"Sister...." Deniz's smile expanded, he immediately closed his reading book and rushed down from the bed and approached his older sister.

The two siblings hugged each other venting their longing. Ivy hugged the small body tightly. Although Deniz is currently ten years old, but the growth of his body is very much different from other children his age.

With her small face, sunken eyelids, pale lips and a body lacking in meat. That is the current condition of Deniz.

"Where are Cansu's father, mother and sister?" asked Deniz who did not see the other members of his family.

Ivy bent her body, thus making herself parallel to her sister's height. "Didn't you miss me?"

"I miss you so much. But you usually come see me together. Some days I tried to contact my father, but I didn't succeed" said Deniz, who was greeted with a bitter smile that came out of Ivy's thin lips.

Ivy rubbed his sister's head and said, "Dad there was a business trip abroad. In a few days, I'll be home."

Deniz's bead shines when he hears Ivy's words. Imagining that his father would come to see him and bring him his favorite toys, reading books and chocolates.

"Excuse me, are you Deniz Eleanor's family?" ask a nun who suddenly approached Ivy and Deniz.

Ivy stood up and answered the nurse's words, "Yes, I'm her brother."

"Doctor wants to talk to you, Miss Eleanor."

"You wait here first yes" Ivy told Deniz. He immediately followed the footsteps of the nurse.

They came out of Deniz's room and walked towards the hospital hallway on the same floor. They were in front of a door that read Dr. Hussein, Hematology Specialist.

Ivy saw a senior doctor with his white hair sitting in his chair, a reading glasses hanging on his wide earlobes. His eye bead was reading some of the patient's health data that was on the table.

"Doctor, this is Miss Eleanor. Brother Deniz," said the nun who entered along with Ivy.

Doctor Husein raised his face towards Ivy and took off his glasses. Ivy introduced herself.

"What's Deniz's current condition, Doc?" Ivy asked after she sat in her chair opposite Doctor Husein.

"Deniz's condition is currently stable. For several weeks, the cancer cells are still in stage two. But, there's something I need to talk to you about, Ivy." Doctor Husein took his phone and contacted someone.

A hospital employee came into Doctor Husein's room. Apparently the woman was one of the employees of the administration.

"Miss Eleanor, we have repeatedly contacted Mr. Eleanor to inform her of Deniz's medical expenses. But until now, the payment has not been done," said the woman while giving a bill to Ivy.

Ivy saw some of the costs incurred by the hospital. Starting from the cost of chemotherapy, drugs, and room costs. The Victor princess swallowed her saliva as her bead eyes stared at the row of figures.

"Please give me a little more time. I'm gonna pay all these bills. My father has just died and we are in financial trouble" Ivy asked the two people in front of him. He will do various ways to keep Deniz treated.

"We are sorry, Miss. But this payment is too late. We have to get Deniz out of here" the woman said.

"Don't!" exclaiming Ivy who immediately stood up from his chair. "I'll pay for it today. But please don't take Deniz out before I get back."

Ivy immediately came out of Husein's doctor's office. He ran to Deniz's room. Her sister is currently playing with her roommate. The most beautiful smile Ivy saw from Deniz's lips, he really enjoyed his life here.

"The children cheered each other on without us noticing. Every one of them who gets well, means their hopes are growing." Doctor Husein's voice shocked Ivy.

"Right now we're just trying to add points of hope to these kids. When one of them dies, make their hope point less."

Ivy notices Deniz when Doctor Husein gives his explanation. A one-to-ten comparison between recovery and death.

"Are they going to heal?" Ivy asked with her words that suddenly shot out of her mouth.

"Only God knows. As good and as expensive as any medicine given, it will have no effect on them." The doctor's words made Ivy reverse her steps.

His mind turned to Deniz, what if his sister also left him, like his father and mother.

After saying that, Husein's doctor immediately left Ivy who was still standing in front of Deniz's room window.

I don't have much time, I have to figure out a way to pay the hospital bills.

Ivy opened her suitcase, took her jewelry box and her savings book. He put the two things in his small bag. He left the briefcase to one of the sisters there and left immediately.

Kenan's footsteps stopped in front of a glass room. There were several rooms there, similar to a house. He opened the glass door that was in front of him, his bead eyes were busy looking for the figure of a dark brown haired woman.

But the woman wasn't there. Kenan only found a few small children who were doing light activities in the room.

"Who are you looking for, sir?" A nun approached Kenan who was looking into the room.

"I'm looking...." Kenan rubbed his face hard, realizing his stupidity why he did not ask the name of Ivy's sister to Cansu at that time.

Kenan scratched his head and made the nurse frown even more. "If there's nothing you're looking for, go to...."

"Eleanor!" yang Kenan who immediately remembered the surname Ivy. "That's a family name. The Eleanor family."

The nurse immediately understood Kenan's intentions. He immediately opened the door of the room and brought Kenan to room number five, at the corner.

"That's it!" The nurse pointed her finger at a boy with dark brown hair, like Ivy. "Deniz Eleanor."

Kenan looked around, there was no Ivy there.

"Deniz's sister was here?" kenan asked as the nurse was about to leave.

"Yes. There was a young woman who was visiting Deniz, but then she left again" replied the nun and left Kenan.

Kenan took the initiative to enter Deniz's room. He approached Deniz who was compiling a puzzle with his friend.

"Hello, are you Deniz?" asked Kenan who was sitting next to the little man.

Deniz just cleared his throat, he's still busy with his puzzle.

"My name is Kenan, your brother's friend," said Kenan. But Deniz ignored him and even joked with his friend who had worn his head covering due to the effects of chemotherapy.

Deniz's cold attitude reminded Kenan of himself. Since childhood, he did not like to talk to strangers. For him people he does not know are like bullies who want to pestilence his life.

Kenan also chose to sit still and watch the child play.

Minutes passed, after completing his puzzle game, Deniz only realized the presence of Kenan who had been sitting next to him.

"You who? Why are you sitting next to me?" asked Deniz who squinted his eyes at Kenan.

"I'm Kenan. I'm a friend of your brother's, Ivy." Kenan repeated his introduction and extended his hand to the boy.

Deniz ignored Kenan's helping hand, making the man pull back his right hand and smile wryly at the behavior of the little creature.

"Where's your brother?" kenan asked when Deniz was about to get into his bed.

The boy just shrugged his shoulders, "After he spoke to the doctor, he didn't come back."

"Do you know when my dad's coming home?"

Kenan immediately scrunched his forehead staring at that small face. Without making his voice.

Does this kid not know yet that his dad just died?

"If you can't answer my question, go! I'm going to sleep!" yelled Deniz who was ready to pull his blanket.

"This child..," muttered Kenan softly. He looked at Deniz's closed eyelids.

His memory moved backwards at the age of ten, when his mother had just died.

"Do you know when my mom's coming home?" little Kenan asked one of his servants at home.

His servant was silent, staring at him. Just as he was doing at this moment when Deniz asked.

"If you can't answer my question, get out of here!" little Kenan shouted at that time.

Deniz opened his eyelids and saw Kenan still standing beside him. "Say away! I'm going to sleep!"

Kenan smiled at Deniz's behavior which immediately hid his little face under his blanket. The man immediately stepped out with a smile and shook his head. I don't know what prompted him to get acquainted with the boy.

From the window, Kenan sees Deniz unwrapping his blanket and sitting on the bed.

"You lied to me, little whiz," muttered Kenan, who walked over laughing through Ivy's suitcase near the nurse's desk.
