The sun was already shining brightly above the sky of Istanbul, a collection of seagulls were seen clutching each other on the roof. There are also those who fly foraging and mingle with other types of birds that are black, similar to grouse.
Large ships lined up on the edge of the pier waiting their turn to set out to sail the ocean.
A captain honked his ship once, a sign that the floating iron would be leaning on the port to disassemble and load passengers.
"Henner!" call the skipper in his full uniform down from his ship. A Turkish man with a black beard. The man opened his white hat, his head glowing with the reflection of sunlight.
Kenan immediately cleaned up his equipment and went to the captain of the ship with his clothes smudged with oil.
"Is there anything I need to fix?" Kenan observed the large ship that was behind the skipper.
"I think there's a problem with my ship's engine, can you help me check it? I went home first, to see my wife who was sick," said the skipper who immediately gave the engine key to Kenan and immediately left the dock.
"All right, I'll fix it. May your wife recover quickly!" shout Kenan. He got on the boat and walked to the engine room.
It took quite a long time to figure out the problem with the ship's engine and fix it. Kenan rubbed his sweat that was pouring. This time the man really felt how he had to go to great lengths to make money to make ends meet.
Very much different from his old life, where he only just had to call his managers to do his office work. With his arrogance he can fire anyone he doesn't like.
"A little more sure this machine is back on!" exclaims Kenan while encouraging himself.
The hot air in the engine room made him more sultry. Kenan pulls a lever on the generator engine, and the engine finally turns on.
"Wohoooo...!" he shouted with joy.
He took his towel which he put on his neck and rubbed his wet head and face.
After repairing the ship's engine, he went out and returned to the mainland. The scorching sun had already started burning his skin when the ship's captain returned.
"How's my ship?" asked the man while carrying two bushels.
"I'm done fixing it, there's a little problem with the generator" replied Kenan who seemed to narrow his eyes in the sunlight.
The two men looked for a somewhat shady spot and sat around the pier.
"So my neighbor gave me this. Eat up! It's noon."
The captain gave one of his challenges to Kenan, and another to himself. A large portion of food, enough to fill the stomach of the men. Both men ate very well.
"Yes. I need a lot of money for my wife's treatment. Although I rarely accompany him, but at least I want to give my best for his recovery," replied the skipper. The man's body looks still look sturdy even though he is half a century old.
"Do you have a wife?" ask the skipper to Kenan. He felt that Kenan was a man who was mature enough to have a family.
Kenan just shook his head and smiled faintly. He doesn't want to talk about his past to anyone else. Mehmet, his best friend, knows all about his life.
"When you have someone you love, your life as a man will be more meaningful. You know what you're going to do for home and who you're going to work for." The skipper patted Kenan's burly arm with a smile revealing his slightly yellowish row of teeth.
Kenan just fell silent and looked at the captain's bead. He was stunned to hear the man's words. Like a father's advice to his son. Advice he never heard from his father.
You're a weak man, Kenan! You stupid man!
That negative phrase he often heard came out of the mouth of his father, Aaron Fallay.
"I'll sail again, young man! I think in a few days we'll meet again" said the skipper who broke Kenan's daydream. The man stood up and flanked his pride hat.
The captain gave Kenan some money for repairing his ship. Not too much, enough for his living expenses the next few days.
Kenan waved his hand when his new friend had entered his ship. He immediately left the dock and returned to his flat.
Kenan's footsteps stopped when he entered his room. Ivy's white wedding dress was still hanging behind the door. He took the dress.
Whether it's a coincidence or not. The wedding dress was very similar to the one worn by Hazal, his ex-wife. When they got married. Kenan's mind recollected the events of a year ago.
Brother Kenan Fallay are you willing to accept Hazal Aksal as your wife? Yes, I am Kenan Fallay willing to accept Hazal Aksal to be my wife. I love you, Hazal. I love you too, Kenan.
Kenan immediately threw the Ivy's wedding dress on the floor. He rubbed his face hard, trying to erase that memory. But everything was like it just happened.
Hazal's smile, Hazal's face and even the woman's voice were still ringing in her ears. A year ago, he seemed alive but not really alive. He is still alive in his past and in his dreams with the woman.
The sound of water gurgling in the bathroom soaked Kenan's body. "How am I supposed to forget you, Hazal? Tell me what to do?" he screams in the bathroom.
The cold water kept on flushing Kenan's face and body. As if he wanted the running water to carry away the memory of his past with Hazal.
