CHAPTER 51

Daniel:

You let me down, Jess.

Daniel

Is this a joke? You treated me like a scary monster and as his goddamn father.

Daniel:

Your taste sucks, you fuck a cheap artist.

At five in the morning, Jessica woke up to go to the bathroom, and of course she glanced at her phone before going back to sleep because the new alarm would go off at six. He was surprised to read all the messages Daniel sent him, not the apology he got because the man almost attacked him but the insults.

Jessica dropped her phone on the bed, her hands shaking. He could not believe Daniel was sending the message to him, but he hoped that after yesterday's incident Daniel was calmer, but even worse.

Jessica tried to go back to sleep, but could not. Finally he woke up and made a cup of coffee while repeating the chat over and over again, until Estelle woke up and she started her morning routine.

After dropping Estelle off at school, she rushes to the boutique. Jessica did not wait for her daughter to go to school because Alice came, and planned to invite her granddaughter to visit the birthday of one of the orphanages in North Jakarta.

All day Jessica worked in an uncomfortable mood because of the chat, added Claire did not come because there was an event with her husband. He did not try to tell Rey when during the day Rey greeted him to drop off for lunch, he did not want Rey to be angry because it felt insulted and made the atmosphere more complicated.

By five o'clock in the afternoon, Jessica was preparing to pick up Estelle at her mother's house. He was surprised by the arrival of Daniel who went straight into his study without knocking on the door of his study. "Can we talk?"

"I have to pick up Estelle." Jessica's words came out quickly and firmly.

Daniel's left hand gripped the end of the table, squeezing it until the muscles in his arm were visible. "I just wanted to apologize" he rubbed his hair and frowned. “I had too much to drink at an event last night, I don't even remember sending that chat, Jess."

Jessica silently said nothing, she began to fidget, increasingly uncomfortable in her silent rage. Daniel slipped his hand into his pocket and looked at him. "Did you tell Claire?"

"No, but I told the lawyer." Jessica lied, but it will come true once she leaves her boutique because from now on, Jessica will document everything Daniel did to her. Rey is right, daniel looks perfect on paper, so he has to execute a little tactic to protect himself and his daughter.

Daniel's eyes slowly turned toward Jessica's eyes. "Why did you do that?"

"You banged my body against the wall and then you sent me a message of contempt in the middle of the night. I don't want you to keep acting on me!"

Daniel pulled his hand from his pocket and squeezed the back of his neck as he spun facing the other direction. “You don't see the reason I did that?" he looked at Jessica. “We've been fine for a year, Jess. We don't have a single problem until he reappears. Now we fight all the time, and you involve a lawyer?”

“Stop blaming your behavior on others, Daniel!”

"Stop ignoring the source of our problems, Jess! Let me guess whose idea it is?" Daniel walks towards the door, as he reaches Jessica's office door, Daniel spins around and stabs Jessica with a sharp look. “Remember, Jess. If you try to ruin my career, the impact will be on Estelle!" His threat was interspersed with his hand slamming the door.

Evelin who heard the quarrel rushed into Jessica's study as soon as Daniel left, he pulled Jessica in his arms. Jessica realized that this time was the hardest part of ending a violent relationship.

In their marriage, some frightening occurrences are enveloped by so many pleasant occurrences, but now that their marriage is over, the blanket has been lifted and all that remains is the worst part of her. Where brand marriage used to be full of hearts and flesh bearing skeletons, now all that remains is a skeleton now. Sharp, bony edges slicing, piercing Jessica's body.

"Mom Jess, all right?" Ask Evelin.

Jessica nodded. “Yes, but.. does it seem like Daniel left here with a purpose? Like she went somewhere else?”

While on her way to Mother's house, Jessica contacted Rey who happened to be at the restaurant. Jessica warns Rey if Daniel is likely to come, but Rey doesn't pay much attention to Jessica's warning, instead she worries about Jessica and Estelle. "Let me know if you've reached Mother's house, and let me know again if you go back to the apartment" Rey ended her call.

Not yet had he put a cell phone in his pocket, Daniel barged into the kitchen of his restaurant. He was enough to make a fuss that everyone noticed and stopped what they were doing.

"I'm going to kick him out" one of his servants tried to drive Daniel out of the restaurant.

"No need," stop Rey, it's been a long time he's wanted to face Daniel, and it's time.

"It's over?" ask Rey.

Daniel did not respond, but he also did not attack again. "I prefer it when you fight, when you're in the hospital."

"I have no desire to fight you" said Rey. "Tell me what you want to say here."

Rey saw Daniel wiping the blood from his knuckles with his shirt, his hands looking swollen. Looks like he punched something before he came to the restaurant.

"You think I don't know the lawyer was your idea?" said Daniel.

Rey tries to hide her surprise, but she still doesn't understand what she's talking about. Danie's face was getting angry. “In marriage, quarrels are common, because marriage is not a rainbow all the time, so don't try to fool her."

"I could have a million fights with him, but I can promise you that it'll never end in the hospital."

Daniel laughed cynically. "You don't know what Jessica and I went through" she said. "You don't know what I've been through."

"You're right, Daniel." Rey nodded slowly. "You're right, I don't know what you've been through.” Rey pulled up a chair near the sink and he sat down quietly. “Whatever happened in your past shouldn't have made you a happy husband."

Daniel rolled his eyes in annoyance with Rey's words.

“Wake, man. You are a terrible husband.”

Daniel looked at Rey for a moment, then said, "What makes you so sure that you'll be better than me?"

“I treat Jessie as well as I treat myself, I think you should be relieved she's with someone right."

Daniel laughs. "Lega? I should be relieved?" he took a few steps towards Rey, his anger rising again. "You're the reason we got divorced!"

Rey is still calm against Daniel. "You are the reason why you got divorced. Anger and your fist brought your marriage to divorce, so stop blaming me, blaming Jessie, and everyone for your actions Rey stood up, but not to hit him, instead he gave Daniel a can of soda.

“This is our life now. Yours, mine, Jessie's, and yours. We have to face this. Forever. Holiday, birthday, graduation, Estelle's wedding. I know this is not easy for you, but you are the only one who can make sure it is easy for all of us because none of us owe you any happiness. Especially Jessie.”

Daniel sipped his sodas while shaking his head “You expect me to support you two? Praying you? and encourage you to be a good father to my daughter?” he laughed at the crazy idea.

"Yes, it's more or less like that" Rey said with a flat face. “Whatever great happiness I make for Jessie, she will never be completely happy until she can work well with you. If you want your daughter to grow up with her best version, let's work together."

"Are we a team now?"

"Being a team is the only way to make your daughter great in the future."

Daniel turned around, he slammed the door and left Rey's restaurant, but this time he did not pass from the front but from the back door because the front was crowded with journalists.

Rey comes out of the kitchen to calm the situation, smiling at the camera, Rey says that she is fine and not a serious problem, he also said that he had resolved the issue in a familial manner and would not proceed to the realm of law. "Thank you for all your attention" he waved his hand and walked out of the restaurant.

Thirty minutes later he had arrived at Jessie's apartment, if it was in front of reporters Rey said fine, in front of Jessica he looked like moaning but he did not mean to make Jessica worry, he said, he only gave a gentle touch to his lover and a cheerful laugh from Estelle.

"Tell me what happened!" jessica painfully treats Rey's face while Rey holds Estelle.

Rey only tells the important points of Daniel's arrival to her restaurant, as she tells him Jessica looks at Rey with a gaze so sweet that her heart melts. "I'm sure you're the only person on the planet who's been beaten up offering cooperation."

Rey reached out her hand, gently stroking Jessica's face. "Don't worry, I think it's a lot better than me fighting it that there's nothing we can't discuss." she pulled Jessica into her arms and then kissed her head. "I'm fine Jessie," she whispered, she also kissed Estelle's head.

After Jessica finished cleaning her wound, Rey said goodbye. "Sorry I can't linger, no one watches Jordy learn, she has to catch up," Rey handed Estelle to Jessica and then she left her seat.
