Chapter 11
A smile rose from the red lips of the long black haired girl, the tall body is wrapped in dark blue skiny jeans with a white shirt top whose long sleeves are rolled up under the elbow showing his left wrist which is decorated with various bracelets made of silver, which is also a very good thing, the leather and woven kur straps are commonly used by nature-loving children, while the right wrist is decorated by a watch with a strap made of leather and 3cm wide white gold.
“Welcome to New York, Raina Gunawan.” He said to himself with a smile and opened his sunglasses to see the grandeur of JFK airport. His eyes were amazed to see one of the busiest airports in the world, “Wow.!” He turned his body 180 degrees indifferent to the minds of those who might consider him a village.
Hey...!!! who cares, they won't see each other again. Except for someone who was waiting for him earlier while enjoying his ice americano, the bespectacled man was given the task by Daniel to pick up his cousin who had first come to New York.
It was Daniel who had the task at first but suddenly he had an important meeting that could not be left behind. Emily whose note is not allowed to leave the house by her mother, she said it was one of the customs of the Indonesian people that prohibit the bride and groom from leaving the house before the wedding day, in fact, she was forbidden to meet her future husband who of course made Dylan carefree for the past few days. Gerard was wondering if today might be a busy world day, when suddenly Alexa, Theo, Dylan and even Calista had an interest that could not be left to pick up this Winchester family cousin. Unfortunately again, Alex who would usually be happy to pick up a girl, is also busy doing her disguise.
So here is where he is currently with his right hand holding the glass containing the americano ice and his left hand holding the paper inscribed with the girl's name. His eyebrows shot up when a girl pushing a trolley filled with luggage and several bags came up to him with a fluffy smile. For a while Gerard just silently stared at the beautiful girl with yellow skin, until finally he realized that the girl was Daniel's cousin from Indonesia.
“Raina?” ask him to make sure his guess is correct.
“Iya,” answered briefly while reaching out to invite Gerard to shake hands.
“Oh, hey... Gerard,” reply Gerard while receiving a helping hand of the girl who returned smiling. Aah, the hospitality that characterizes the Indonesian nation, said Gerard in his heart, “What-kabal?” tanyanya uses Indonesian which stammered the results of a short lesson with Alexa earlier. Inevitably Gerard received the short lesson because the twin Emily said that her cousin could not speak English.
“Good... You can speak Indonesian?”
Gerard smiled in gratitude because Alexa had taught him the same question, even Daniel's sister told him what to say in response.
“Iya, of course!” Gerard said with complete confidence and it was not in vain because Raina's eyes now looked sparkling happy which made her proud because her short training was not in vain, and it proved that she was truly a genius.
“Waah, good... I did not expect that I would meet an Indonesian-speaking person here....What are my cousins who taught you?” raina asked enthusiastically as she looked at Gerard with her sparkling round eyes.
“Oh shit!” Gerard cursed in his heart... Alexa didn't teach him this conversation!
“Yes,” replied Gerard with a smile trying to behave normally, fortunately he remembered Alexa's advice.
“Remember, G, if you don't understand what he's saying just smile... Or if he asks you something you don't understand enough answer yes or no, do you understand?”.
And again the suggestion ‘guru’nya it works, now Raina's eyes look at him amazed that makes Gerard smile proudly.
“Ok. we pellgi sekallang.” Gerard has memorized the words hundreds of times on his way to the airport, although Alexa scolded him because she could not call the letter R but finally she got praise for having managed to say it quite smoothly, and Alexa should see how he said it smoothly and confidently. Ah should have recorded it earlier and shown it to Alexa because she was sure she wouldn't believe it.
With complete confidence Gerard took over pushing Raina's trolley towards the parking lot and stuffed the girl's luggage into her trunk, she opened the passenger door for him and walked around to his seat behind the wheel. Now they are ready in Gerard's black Ford and begin to divide the New York City crowd.
“Do you know why New York is nicknamed the Big Apple?” Raina asked breaking the silence and awkwardness that filled the air inside the vehicle, but the girl's question made Gerard slightly furrow his brows as he did not understand what the question was.
“No,” Gerard replied with a smile trying to behave normally which made Raina nod in understanding.
The two of them went back into silence and the awkward atmosphere came back. In his heart Gerard cursed everyone with his busy life until he was trapped in a situation like this. Gerard will try to get the girl to speak in plain English when she hears a soft voice next to her asking questions.
“Gerard, tell me do you know Emily's future husband?”
Gerard is happy because the girl is back to voice even though she does not understand what she said but at least the atmosphere will not be so awkward, as Alexa taught she is only quite menjwanb yes and no.
“Iya,” replied Gerard with a confident face.
“What is he handsome?”
“No.”
“You mean he's ugly?” Raina widened her eyes, which made Gerard think he might have answered wrongly. Ok, it looks like 'No' is a bad answer and finally the man decided he would just answer yes.
“Iya.”
“What, he is very... ugly?”
“Iya.”
Raina again widened her eyes in disbelief which made Gerard desperate because he believed the answer this time - even wrong.
“Don't tell me he's old?”
Gerard was silent for a while, this time he had to think of an answer first.
“Ti-dak,” replied Gerard hesitated but was finally able to breathe after a smile re-emerged on the red lips of the woman with that beautiful hair.
“Oh thank goodness..it's really okay if not handsome that matters he is good and love the same Emily.” Raina smiled as she looked at Gerard who also smiled and breathed a sigh of relief because this time there was no question that made the man despair.
“He loves Emily right?” Raina again asked which made Gerard throw a heavy breath.
“No.” And Gerard came back in despair when he saw Raina widening her round eyes indicating that the answer was wrong.
“You mean, that guy doesn't love you, Em?”
“Yes,” replied the weak Gerard who made Alexa shut her mouth in disbelief with what she heard.
Gerard could only gape in confusion at the fiery remark of the girl without a word he understood.
“Yes God, why doesn't this girl stop talking?” Gerard's voice sounded desperate which made Raina turn her gaze towards him while raising her black eyebrows.
“It should be an easy task to just pick up a girl, but it turns out this is harder than hacking security Phentagon.” Raina cringed when she heard that she was more troublesome than crossing American security? He had already opened his mouth to refute her words when he again heard the man complaining.
“Dan, hey! This year 2015, everyone in the world can speak English.. ok not all, but at least they understand ‘How are you’, what schools in Indonesia do not teach English? Lexa says simple enough answer yes or no, and damn it! It's not that easy. I'm desperate every time I see her round, black and beautiful eyes are wide-eyed because my answer is wrong.”
Raina silently held back her smile hearing the handsome man with his glasses mow desperately. Now he understood why Gerard only answered yes and no, and apparently his cousin was behind all this. Ok he's going to be in the Alexa game.
“So you don't actually speak Indonesian? Hmmm okay.. You know, Gerard, you look good with your glasses... You look like Clark Kent, are you Superman in disguise?”
“Clark Kent? Superman's? Yes, Clark Kent... Superman,” replied Gerard while frowning thinking why did the girl suddenly discuss Superman? maybe he likes the superhero?
“Oh, so you're Superman.. Then am I Louis Lane?”
“No.”
“No? Hey I'm no less beautiful than Louis Lane.” Raina protested with a smile at the original answer from Gerard who now looks more confused, “You look adorable when you are confused so... So, Superman, do you have a girlfriend?”.
“Iya.”
“Ckk... You let me down, but of course a man like you would be weird if you didn't have a lover...is your lover pretty?”
“No.”
“Hey, if he's ugly you better break up with him and.. date me, do you want?” Reina looked at Gerard enthusiastically.
“Iya.” Gerard no longer care about the answer he gave, he will only follow according to the interaction of ‘guru’ language, he will only answer yes and not only.
“Iya?” Reina laughed while clapping which made Gerard surprised to see the action, “Oh good, I just got to New York an hour ago and now already have a very cool lover like Superman, Superman,” he continued while laughing.
“Is he crazy? Why is he laughing while clapping like that?” Gerard grimaced while shaking his head.
“Oh just calm down Kang mas, I'm not crazy... Mamah must be grateful now if I say I already have a lover.” Raina laughed again considering her mother who was diligent in finding a mate for her, but always ended in failure.
“Mah, your son-in-law bule, Mah!” Raina exclaimed with a laugh that made Gerard gasp in shock.
The journey from JFK to the West Village where the Winchester family home is located feels long and heavy for Gerard but not for the girl with that sweet smile, he was so enjoying his journey by tempting Gerard who did not even know that he was being teased.
Raina got out of the black Ford car with a fresh, bloated smile and an invisible jetlag leftover due to the long journey she had just taken, while Gerard walked lethargic as if he had just experienced a long journey across the limitless Ocean.
“Raina!” Mrs Exclamations. Winchester as he spread out his arms welcoming his nephew in front of the door of the house which made the girl run into his arms.
“Tante, how are you?”
“Good dear... How is the journey? Upgrade?”
“Very fun,” replied Raina while glancing at Gerard who was carrying his bag and suitcase.
“Rain!” Emily ran from the house after hearing her mother call her cousin's name, a smile rising from her lips as she looked at the long-simmering brother.
“Yes God, Rain, you look so beautiful!” Emily hugged her cousin warmly.
“You too, you are getting more beautiful.. and soon you will get married... aaaahhh!!!”
The two of them shouted happily while jumping around with the bodies still hugging each other which made Mrs. Winchester smiled happily, but not with Gerard now gaping in disbelief that the girl spoke fluent English!
“K-you?” Gerard pointed at Raina with eyes widened in disbelief.
“Gerard, what's up?”
Gerard ignored Emily's question, his eyes still focused on Raina who smiled sweetly at him, “You.... You speak English?”.
“Gerard, what are you talking about? Of course she can speak English, she finished her S1 studies at Yale.”
Gerard now looked at Emily in disbelief as he shook his head, he looked back at Raina who was still smiling like an innocent angel.
“But, earlier... Lexa..” Gerard did not continue his sentence after realizing that he had entered the Alexa game, “Ah, damn it! I should have known!” Gerard could only smile wryly aware of his innocence. And Raina feels good looking at it, but it's also fun.
”We'd better get in, you must be really hungry, Rain, Auntie has prepared some food for you. Gerard, you eat before you go home!” Mrs Exclamations. Winchester, embracing his father, enters the house, leaving Gerard still bemoaning his fate.
“Lexa... Just look I will reply you!” Furious while going inside, because after all the cuisine of the mother of the twins is too dear to be missed under any conditions.
