Rahma and I got up from our seats and rushed to Salma.
"Mbak why?" ask Rahma.
"My stomach! Aw!"
"Will Salma give birth?" my many.
"His delivery date is still at the end of this month" replied Rahma.
"Yes already. We're taking Salma to the hospital right now" I said.
After leaving Lyra to her mother, Rahma and I took Salma to the hospital.
Arriving at the hospital.
"What happened to this mother?" ask doctor.
"My brother suddenly felt pain in his stomach."
"How old is the pregnancy?"
"His delivery date is still three weeks away." I chimed.
"alright. You guys wait outside. I'll check on the patient."
Not long ago the delivery room door was closed, I suddenly saw the doctor coming out from inside. Has Salma given birth? But, why didn't I hear the sound of a baby crying?
"How's my brother doing, Doc?" ask Rahma.
The doctor removed the mask that covered his mouth and nose. Now I can catch the sadness and regret on the look on his face. He also lowered his face.
"Why is the doctor silent?"
"Sorry, we tried. But God wants something else."
"What does the doctor mean?"
"The baby in the patient's womb we can't save. We didn't hear his heartbeat when our patient checked. It looks like the patient's baby died a few days ago" the doctor explained.
"Innalilahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un" I said.
"Ja-ja-di, my sister's baby is dead, Doc?" ask Rahma.
The doctor nodded his head.
"How did that happen? During her pregnancy my sister had no significant complaints."
"Based on examination, the patient has pre-eclampsia. This is what causes the baby to die before birth" explained the doctor.
"Lantas, how's my sister doing now?"
The patient will be transferred to the treatment room. Soon the patient will be conscious. I hope you as his family can provide moral support to patients. However, losing a child is painful" the doctor said.
We nodded in understanding.
The next second Rahma and I were in Salma's nursery. I saw he was starting to wake up.
"Salma's mother" said Rahma as she walked over to Salma's bed.
"My son was born, right? A boy or a girl?" tanyakanya.
"Ehm.hm…"
Rahma and I sat together. Of course, we were confused to answer that question.
"Where is my son? Why are you guys quiet?"
"Mbak.Mbak Salma was patient. Baby Ma'am died" Rahma half-whispered.
"No! You must be lying! Where's my baby? Doctor... Sister..where is my baby!" shouted mbak Salma.
Not long after the doctor entered the treatment room.
"Please my brother, Doc. She screamed hysterically while looking for her baby" Rahma said.
"Baby mom boy. But we are sorry. We couldn't save him. Your baby died in the womb about a week ago" the doctor said.
"No, Ma. My baby's dead. Patient mother, this is a test."
"You all worked together to prank me, huh? Now my baby must be in the baby's room."
Suddenly, Salma got out of bed and ran out of the room and into the baby room. I don't know what was going through his mind at the time. He lifted the body of a baby boy from the cot and held it tightly.
"My son, my son," he wrote.
"Mom, that baby is not your baby. The baby is no longer there" Rahma said.
"Shut up! He's my son. I'll take her home with me."
"Istighfar, Ma'am. Baby Ma'am has been taken back to God. He's already in heaven." I chimed.
Apparently Sister Salma did not want to pay attention to our words. He tried to get out of the room with the baby boy.
"Sorry, Mom. Please put the baby back where it belongs. She's not Mom's baby" said the nurse who happened to be standing guard in the room.
"He's my son. Look, his face just looks like Roni's mas" said Salma.
Astarghfirullah's. What happened to Salma? Did she lose her mind because the baby died?
"Sorry, that baby isn't Mom's baby."
"He's my son! I'll take her home with me."
The nurse tried to take the baby boy from Salma's arms. Of course he refused to give it. The atmosphere grew tense as the still-red baby's cry suddenly broke out.
Everyone in the room persuaded Ms. Salma to give the baby away. But none of them succeeded. He sped up his steps and walked out of the room.
"Security! Hold that mother! Don't let him out!" shouted one of the nurses at security who happened to be on patrol.
The man in uniform then held Salma's step by holding one of his arms.
"Let go! I have to get my baby home!" he cried while struggling to escape from the clutches of the security hand.
That's when I acted. I quickly took the baby from Salma's arms.
"Give me the baby! Don't take my baby!" his yell.
Ms. Salma kept shouting until it forced the security to pull her violently towards her treatment room.
"Sorry, Ma'am. I had to inject a sedative into the patient. The action is quite dangerous for others," said the doctor shortly after giving an injection on one of Rahma's arms. Slowly her screams grew weaker, and she fell asleep.
"Why is this so?" rahma.
I understand his feelings now. She must have been so devastated by the change in her sister's attitude.
"Why my sister, Doc?"
tanyakanya.
"From my observations, the patient's soul was shaken because it was not ready to accept the fact that the baby had died. Hopefully the situation is still safely under control so it does not require him to get intensive care at another hospital," said the doctor.
"Another hospital? What do you mean Doctor?" ask Rahma.
"I mean sorry, mental hospital. Only in that place is the right place to deal with patients with psychiatric disorders."
"How is this, Ma'am? What if Salma's mom is really gil* and has to be admitted to a mental institution?" ask Rahma.
Honestly, I was confused to give an answer to that question. However, I tried to be calm in front of Rahma.
"We pray for the best for Salma. Hopefully after realizing later his feelings are much calmer," comfort me.
I held Rahma's body into my arms, and I let her sob on my shoulder.
I'm sure God always gives his best to His servants. Though heavy, I know why God gave this test to Rahma and Mbak Salma. Because God knows they are strong…
