My madam, my poison

My madam, my poison
Deadlocked

"Do you know the address of the taxi driver who took care of Mala's biological son?" ask Siska. I invited him to meet in front of the Rainbow Cafe.

"Say Fabian said the cab driver's house was not far from the terminal."

"Why don't you take Rayyan's real father along? Not only me, he also became the person most responsible for the existence of Mala's biological child."

"He's too busy working."

"So, she's just gonna take her hand off?"

"Here it is, without any interference we both can definitely solve this problem" I said.

After getting the former nurse into my car, we started the search.

I think that armed with the name of the taxi driver it will make our search easier. However, the facts I got were really unexpected. One of the residents who lived not far from the terminal said that Mr. Sumarno and his children and wife did not survive the earthquake that occurred three years ago.

"Do you know the fate of the baby who was treated by Mr. Sumarno?" my many.

"Which baby do you mean? As far as I know the late Mr. Sumarno only had a daughter who was already sitting on the bench of High School."

"So, you don't know about the baby boy she was babysitting?"

"Sorry, Mom. I don't know."

"How is this, Mom? We lost track of Rayyan" Siska said.

I paused for a moment and thought.

"Is it possible Fabian lied to me? But what good is he lying? It is possible that the earthquake disaster occurred when Rayyan was not long taken care of by Sumarno, so not many residents know of his presence at the home of Mr. Sumarno," he said.

I'm not satisfied with just asking one person. I finally asked the taxi driver. I'm sure that his professional friend must know about Mr. Sumarno who asked someone to take care of the baby.

"Pak Sumarno did tell me if he was asked to take care of a baby boy by his own biological father. But only a few days later I heard the news that Mr. Sumarno and his family were killed in an earthquake because of the rubble of the walls of his house."

Again the answer I got did not give a hint of where Rayyan is. Where are Maureen and Fabian's real children? Is he still alive? Or did he die in the accident?

Not having any information about Rayyan's whereabouts, I ended the search.

Upon returning from Rayyan's search, I went back to see Maureen's brother at the Correctional Institution.

"How, Zura? Have you met Sister Siska?" ask Maureen.

"Yes, Brother. Besides Sister Siska, I also found out where Saddam and Miss Mala are."

"Saddam's? Miss Mala? Who're they?"

"Saddam's got an older sibling who's been dumped."

"Where is Saddam now? You brought her to this place, didn't you? I would love to see his face" Maureen said excitedly.

"I did meet Saddam. But Mala's mom wouldn't just give up Saddam if she wasn't met with her real son."

I smiled thinly.

"It's not as simple as you think."

"What do you mean, Ra?"

"I and Siska have been looking for where the home address of Mr. Sumarno. But, …"

"But why?"

"We didn't find Rayyan."

"You really came to Mr. Sumarno's address, didn't you? How could you not find Rayyan?" protest brother Maureen.

"Pak Sumarno is dead" he said.

"Innalilahi wa Inna ilaihi raji. Did he die of illness, Ra?" ask Maureen.

I shook my head slowly.

"Pak Sumarno died not because of illness, but because of the earthquake disaster. Not only Mr. Sumarno, but his wife and child also died."

"What about Rayyan? What is he, …"

Brother Maureen looked me in the eye.

"Nobody knows Rayyan's fate."

"Yes Rabb .. forgive my sin," said Maureen as her weeping began to spill.

"I'm sorry I couldn't find Rayyan. I don't know how else to look for clues. I really lost track of him," I said.

"This problem happened because of my own fault. Maybe it's God's punishment for my past sins" he said.

"We leave everything to God. If God wills, nothing is impossible for Him. Even though it's small, the hope is always there" I said.

"Pardon thy sinful servant, O Lord," said Maureen.

Maureen's sister who was in front of me now was no longer the Karmila I knew to be arrogant, haughty and stubborn. I hope he really has changed.
