I don't know why I'm so nervous tonight. I tried to close my eyes, but the sleepiness never came. My real mother and my mother-in-law. These two women were disturbing my mind. My real mother was in the hospital with no one to accompany. While I'm not sure if my mother-in-law is okay in the hands of Fabian and Karmila.
Suddenly I heard the sound of someone chatting over the phone on the porch of the house. Trying not to make a sound, I opened the door slowly and then closed it again. I walked to the terrace. The voice came from Rahma.
"Rahmas? What kind of nights did you call?" ask me a moment after he ends the conversation.
"My brother, Ma'am," he replied.
"You look so confused. What was? Everything's fine, right?"
"My sister just told me that her husband died in an accident."
"Innalilahi wa inna ilaihi roji'un."
"I'm confused, Ma'am. I'm going home but, …"
"But why, Rahma?"
"My blind this month is over because early last month I got sick. If I get permission again I could get terminated."
"Where does your brother live?"
"At the city's border, Ma'am. I'm afraid if I come home, I'll get in trouble with my job."
"Ehm, are you in the morning shift tomorrow?" my many. Rahma nodded her head.
"Saranku, you go home to your sister's house tomorrow afternoon after work and come back here after dawn. That way you can still go home to show your condolences, but do not have to leave your job" I said.
Rahma's face that had been confused now turned radiant.
"Thank you Ma'am, for giving advice. I am not confused anymore, he said. I responded with a smile.
"Oh yeah. It's been almost eleven in the night, Ms Zura hasn't slept?" ask Rahma.
I shook my head slowly.
"My mind is everywhere, I can't sleep."
Suddenly Rahma looked at my face.
"Master, is there a problem? If you don't mind you can share with me. Who knows the burden of your mind could be slightly reduced."
I have not known Rahma for a long time. His nature is so mature even though his age is quite far from me.
"If you want to tell a story, just tell it. I'm ready to be a good listener" he said.
I took a breath before I started talking to my new neighbor.
"I'd like to apologize before. I lied to you."
"What's lying, Ma'am?"
Rahma frowned.
"Actually, Lyra's father doesn't work out of town. He didn't come to live with us because I decided to part with him."
I saw Rahma's eyes round. It seems like he was shocked and did not believe my words.
"Don't joke, right?" tanyakanya.
"No, Rahma. I'm not lying. That's the real situation."
"What's the reason you want to part with Lyra's father?"
"Although our religion does not prohibit polygamy, I cannot accept if there is a third person in our marriage. That's why I decided to leave, even though Lyra's father never divorced me or dropped my talaq on me" I said.
"I agree 100% with the decision you made. Someday Mbak's husband will surely regret having wasted his wife as well as Mbak."
"Maybe our soul mate just got here," I said.
"I'm sure Ma'am is a strong woman. That is why God gave this test to you. Mbak must not be weak and must prove that Mbak and Lyra can be happy without relying on that unfaithful husband! Sorry, Ma'am. I follow the emotion of hearing it."
"There are other problems that are also quite disturbing my mind."
"What's the problem, Ma'am?" asked Rahma curiously.
"My mom…"
"Why his mother?"
"Mother was hospitalized, and no one was looking after her."
"So you still have a mother? Excuse me. If you still have a mother, why don't you just stay with her?"
I smiled blandly.
"The problem isn't as simple as you think. It's been over ten years since my mother left home. We just got back together a day ago when mom had an accident when I came back from the hospital after visiting one of my brothers who gave birth."
"How's Mom doing?" ask Rahma.
"I'm sure Mbak is able to face this test" said Rahma.
Suddenly Rahma yawns and closes her mouth which indicates if drowsiness starts attacking her.
"If you're sleepy, you just sleep" I said.
"Yes, Mommy. Don't stay out too long either. The night air is not good for health."
"Thank you, Rahma."
"Thank you for what?"
"Thank you for listening to my story."
"Either. Good night."
"Good night."
Rahma passed from before me, and she went into her room.
Next morning.
I just came out of my room with Rahma preparing to leave for her workplace.
"Good morning, Dek Lyra," she said as usual with a friendly smile.
"Good morning, Auntie Rahma," I replied.
"You want to go to work?"
"Yes, Mommy."
"Be careful."
"Assalamu'alaikum."
"Getishalight."
The day I decided to visit Mila's house. My goal is nothing but to make sure that my mother-in-law is okay.
My goal before heading to Mila's house was a gift shop. I deliberately bought him his favorite snack, a legit layer cake.
Fellow in Edelweiss housing.
"Good morning, Mom. Can I help you?" security at the guard post.
"Good morning."
"Mother who was looking for Mr. Kartono's house yesterday, right?" tanyakanya.
"Security again" I grumbled.
"Mother was very diligent to visit Mr. Kartono's house," he said.
"I need to be with Mr. Kartono" I said as I passed from the security post.
I put my foot inside that residential area. However, my steps came to a halt as it crossed the small crowd not far from the guard post. Apparently some housewives who were shopping at a mobile vegetable maker.
My ear caught their conversation.
"I'm surprised. The house in the H block actually has a problem what the hell? I often hear the voice of angry women with harsh words" said one mother.
"Which house do you mean?" ask the other mother.
"That's a loh, light blue green paint house."
"It's the newlyweds' house. Heard the owner remarry and his old wife leaves the house. What a pity, her daughter, is only two months old."
"The newlyweds are making a fuss, Mom?"
"It's not the husband of his wife who is noisy. But, they live with an old woman who he says has a stroke. Maybe the young wife of the owner of the house was the one who liked to get angry and say rude to her mother-in-law."
"Truly a cruel son-in-law."
"Already, Mothers. Don't berghibah mostly. Not good," said the vegetable.
"This is a fun topic, Loh Bang. I was planning to shoot a video when the woman got angry. Then I spread it on social media to go viral. The title is dzolim's daughter-in-law," said one mother who was greeted by laughter all mothers who were at the place. While the vegetable brother just shook his head in wonder.
"O Rabb.: is this what they are talking about Mila and my mother-in-law?" muttered.
