The Monster In Me
Keys

During this time, Evan did not consider Danita and her colleagues as comrades-in-arms. Their existence made him feel very disturbed.

Danita may know Evan's feelings of letting the young man and holding other teenagers back from disturbing her. In the end, Evan arrived at an empty security guard post that half of the building had been destroyed.

The young man put away the remains of the glass still attached to the window frame and jumped in. His hand shook rapidly as he found the place filled with dust from the shattered walls and the collapsed roof. Slowly, Evan looked around and found a chair that looked intact. Without a second thought he walked over, intending to sit on it.

Until the distance with the chair was less than a meter, he heard a slow growl.

“Gosh!” Evan was aghast while holding his chest. He kicked the chair when he found out what had just surprised him. “Sial! Just make it a shock! What an ugly creature seems to be hiding in a place like this! Until it gets caught anyway. Cih!”

After being satisfied with the curse, Evan began to observe the zombies in front of him. The living corpse appeared to be bound by a thick chain attached coiled to one of the legs of a large table inside the post. While his body curled up and slightly folded under the table. From the black-and-white uniform worn, it appears that while still a human, the creature was a security guard at the Cakrabuana Playground.

“It seems that after being bitten, he tied up and locked himself in this place. Truly commendable attitude.” Evan gave a half-hearted compliment. He even clapped his hands while smiling cynically. The young man felt absolutely no sympathy for the creature before him.

Just as he was about to leave, he heard something that sounded like a clanking sound. Both of his eyes widened. With all his abilities, he tried to sharpen his hearing and find the source of the sound. A wide grin formed on his face after he found out what it was.

Some keys are hanging in one of the security officer's zombie pants pockets. Without a second thought, Evan immediately reached out to pick it up.

“Woah! Just barely!” He then cursed after the zombie almost grabbed and bit his hand. “Sial! I could have killed you first, but I don't want to waste my energy. Can't you just give me the key? Ah, what am I doing? Why am I talking to this stupid creature?”

For a while, Evan simply stood up while thinking of various ways for him to pick up the key. Thinking that, among the many keys hanging inside the iron circle in the zombie's pocket, one must be the key to unlock the lock at the exit gate. If he managed to get it, then his safety was assured.

“But how do I take it? My energy has been drained a lot, and it has been a long time since I last ate or drank something,” murmured while slightly touching the bag on his back.

The bag still contained several bottles of drinking water that he took from the Playground's free drink booth, not far from its current location. From the beginning, Evan suspected the content of the drink because he realized that there were many zombies that had previously gathered in the place. And all the zombies there look much more ‘clean’ and look decent compared to zombies in other places. So Evan concludes that the zombies have just changed.

And they changed because they drank free drinks there.

Evan, of course, thought that his conclusion was crazy and absurd, so he did not tell anyone and was just being careful not to drink. However, in the end he experimented on Karsa who happened to be thirsty. Once Karsa really turned into a zombie ….

Evan wanted to keep the bottles to himself.

Without a second thought, Evan opened his bag and grabbed one of the bottles. Then he doused it into the face of the zombie in front of him. He waited for a few seconds before finally sighing.

Suddenly he again ventured his regret by kicking the leg of the chair that had now been lying helpless. He kept kicking him with all his might until the leg of the chair just slipped off. After feeling better, Evan looked out the window and saw Danita and her friends sitting on the asphalt, discussing something.

“They won't get anything by just talking.” Evan rolled his eyeballs in annoyance, before suddenly his face started to glow. He sees a zombie in front of him and Abian outside the window turns. The sound of a snap of his finger rang out quite loudly inside that empty room.

“No harm in trying.”

Within seconds, Evan was back outside the security guard post and approached his friends with a cheerful face. “Friends! I found the key!”

“What? Where?” trisha asked suspiciously.

As much as possible Evan endured his regret and returned to talking cheerfully. “In there is a kind of table belonging to Mr. Satpam. I saw something sparkling behind the table. Too bad, that big table is hard for me to slide by myself.”

“Really? Then let me help.” Danita volunteered and began to rise up to follow Evan, but Abian who was sitting next to her stretched out her arms to prevent it.

“Let me, Mom. The power of two men will be much stronger,” he said proudly. He happily stood up and asked Evan to lead the way immediately. There was absolutely no suspicion painted on Abian's face.

Firda himself tried to play it safe by remaining silent. He is still trying to understand the situation by observing the situation. So far, all he can know is that Danita, Abian, and Trisah's relationship is not very good with Evan. Although as a teacher, of course Danita tried to remain friendly and gentle, but Firda could see clearly that Danita was a little regretful of Evan's attitude. While the other students hated Evan blatantly. Abian himself did not seem to want to go hand in hand with Evan even though he volunteered to help the young man.

In an instant the figures of Evan and Abian were no longer visible to the others. The two young men had entered the security guard post and Evan started asking Abian to crouch down in front of the table. Of course it makes Abian realize the existence of zombies and find out that Evan has deceived him. However, he did not have time to protest because Evan immediately pushed his body until he fell, right in front of the zombie.

Even his knees with those undead knees had touched. Abian gulped his saliva as he watched the hideous face approach.

Like in the movies he often watched, Abian saw all the flashes of his life appear before his eyes.

He was sure he would die.
